If there is any truth to those figures then future contracts in RTE should NEVER be over 70-80k in euros.

How can they justify any higher figure ?

Bakhurst should be sacked instantly if he agrees to pay more than 90k for anyone to stay in their cushy jobs.

    The real King has arrived.

I’ll have to text in and ask if he plans on giving the €150,000 back to the Irish people that he’s taken it from and who want it back.

He's getting welcome messages from all over the world already 🙄.

I hope everyone sending a whatsapp about the 150k. Done mine.

The one RTÉ had contractually guaranteed to pay him?

    The tide is turning…

I’m sure the 24 year old production assistant in London will be bowled over by your WhatsApp and will be forwarding it to senior management immediately.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,749 ✭✭✭podgeandrodge

Yes, that's exactly it Emmet. The one that RTE (stupidly) contractually agreed to pay him, and also the one that Tubridy fully and unconditionally accepted in front of the Oireachtas Committee that he would pay back to RTE if the Renault gigs did not proceed. That one. Money due to RTE, not contractually, but 1) morally and 2) as he himself said he would.

Good luck to him. He's not our problem any longer and off the RTE books thankfully. The longer he stays over there the better and I hope he becomes the biggest star in the UK for the same reason. The last thing many of us want to see is him coming "home" to RTE to reclaim his position as the most over-paid, over-hyped broadcaster here.

Unlikely RTE will recover the 150k at this stage, that would mean a supreme act of decency and willingness to dig out his old colleagues in RTE who are now facing an uncertain future. The money is safely pocketed. But can't see him ever returning to RTE as the contempt for him from staff appears to be strong.

“I’m thin skinned & superficial” “that’s what you get when you’re dealing with narcissism”

    He said it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,365 ✭✭✭Higgins5473

No danger, reports yesterday he’s on something between €50k-€90k, a paltry amount particularly in London. Still far beyond his worth.

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,527 ✭✭✭✭EmmetSpiceland

They didn’t renew his contract, if they had they could have worked out a way for the money to be paid back, should no other sponsor events be arranged.

    The tide is turning…

Sorry i haven't been listening... what's the context here?

To be fair, the poster who said they would text in was probably saying it as a joke. There's little hope of recovering it now. The 150k was a source of annoyance to a lot of people in RTE and both the Tubridy and Bakhurst sides agreed it would be paid back as a condition of Tubridy returning to RTE.

Given the 150k was the cause of a huge amount of fall-out during the summer, Oireachtas committee hearings, and people voting with their feet by not paying their licence fee largely because of it, its extremely unlikely RTE and the general population will simply forget about it, should Tubridy rock up some day in the future looking for his old job in RTE back.

He referenced it in such away as to indicate sarcastically that some people might think of him like that, kind of half admitting he is as yet not doing so. I’d have to trawl back to put it in the exact context but it caught my attention when he used this phraseology.

Graham Norton asks about Tubs favourite toy

Graham Norton sends a message into the show asking Ryan what his favourite toy was as a child.

Tubs rambled somewhat before saying; 'You know the toys that you can pull the arms and were quite elastic,' Ryan said before explaining that he was speaking of a Stretch Armstrong that 'looked like the Incredible Hulk... I really liked that.' Books also came in as Tubs' second favourite toy.

He needs to shut up rambling on about books. It's not a 1997 edition of Oprah. He's not going down well over there. A lot of people on Twitter saying that they can't understand him.

I listened in for a bit today out of curiosity.

I expected either U2 or Beatles as first song. So far, so expected.

It was alright. The music mix was ok but he probably has little influence on the Virgin playlist.

He's alright, but he's really not that great . I might listen to the 12-1 hour going forward as an alternative to Andrea Gilligan on Newstalk but that's it.

I'd wish him well, especially since he's no longer leeching off the National Broadcaster's coffers. London is a great spot, he'll enjoy it there (wage cut notwithstanding)

    "King of Mid Mornings"!!?

Someone made an Alan Partridge joke and I bet it went right over his head.

NK still running the show obviously.

there is no replacement for the Sunday mass - in fact in my parish deep in the countryside - the mass is streamed and you can have the mass on the phone and the radio on in the background-

Front page of todays Irish Independent is a big picture of Ryan Tubridy with the tagline: "As Ryan Tubridy starts his new job .... meet 3 other people who made a fresh start at 50 and changed their lives"

It's pathetic that they're trying to pretend that this is something he wanted and it's isn't been forced upon him because he was sacked due to RTE scandal he was involved in.

I'm pretty indifferent about Tubridy as I never watched the Late Late show or listened to his radio show but it just shows you if you have connections in the media in this country they can lie and lie on your behalf forever until they hopefully make everyone forget. The fact that the Allen Family (of Ballymaloe) are still part of the In crowd in Irish media shows you how true this is

  • Registered Users Posts: 32,993 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

Could we get the 2 threads merged?

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,300 ✭✭✭leath_dub

Oliver Callan is the only one calling out the odious Allen family, in fairness to him. How do they get away with it? Why have they so much influence? The brand must be protected at all costs. It's almost Savile-esque

It's not even about connections. It's about your willingness or ability to pay for PR that gets regurgitated by "newspapers" who don't want to pay staff and who will accept all free content. I'd guess that part of NK's slice of the deals that he conducts goes towards generating that PR.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,083 ✭✭✭Rubberchikken

Have never listened or watched him so won't be listening now but I'm surprised this man can fit in a door with the gigantic ego he's carrying around.

I agree NK must have the.nedia and or lot over a barrel in this country to have them plugging this greedy man so much.

On another note after that Balymaloe man was convicted and fined (bloody insult) for his porn stash we stopped our hasing their products. Have to protest somehow🥴

    Seriously...50-90k? Is that all?

Some reduction......you'd think he'd be on more, given he's on same station as Chris Evans...presume it's a popular enough radio station over there?
