Coming up on the 4 month mark now since he started. The novelty has worn off. The honeymoon over.…The sheer trauma of putting in 3, maybe 4 full hours in the studio, 5 days a week is starting to bite. No impromptu duvet days whenever he fancies it. No week off every couple of months. No teachers holiday schedule to luxuriate in. The only hope, the possibility of Virgin giving him the axe before year end. That would end this purgatory. But what then?

The Toblerone addiction only a matter of time.

Yesterday's article about Guinness and Netflix seems prescient. The stuff about the London Irish community has disappeared and the celebrity spotting has gone from A-Listers to B and C. Even the Ed Sheerhan guitar thing was sad. The flow of celebrities on which he depended for his own fame has been stemmed and the terrible realisation of the mistake he made with Bakhurst in August 2023 may be dawning on him. Don't know how much longer he can last on this egg noodles and ketchup circuit. He's probably hoping for a return to RTE or at least a slot on an Irish national broadcaster but the longer he stays on Virgin Radio, the less likely that seems.

The the next two sets of RAJAR figures would have to be absolutely dire for Virgin Radio to drop him before the end of the year. The wildcard is that he makes a decision to quit and return to Ireland.

This whole London stint never sounded like a good idea.

His best option was humble pie this time last year, but whether is was his own ego or his agent egging him on the whole gambit of reinvention outside of RTE hasn't gained traction. Trying to stay in the Irish public mind is doubly risky considering the RTE mismanagement debacle of which he benefitted via Barter acc payments is still very much a political hot potato.

It can't be good on his mental state to be trying to reinflate his prominence on Irish airwaves when those who once listened to his slot on RTE haven't followed him and those slots have increased audiences since his departure.

Paddy Kielty had his own brand beforehand and he's protecting it from the RTE payment fiasco by ensuring that his LLS fee and expenses (or lack of considering he's not claiming for flying in and out) are public knowledge from the get go. That way when his current contract is up two years from now he'll retain the option to renew, or go to the competition.

Either way he's staying clear of blurring the line between being a name for hosting a traditional slot and being popular for the effort he puts into enhancing that slot with his own personal mark. Kielty knows that he has do a good job to protect his own brand independent of the LLS and RTE, whereas Tubridy maybe is only now realising that he has no brand other than as a RTE has been, and a notorious one at that.

I inadvertently heard a clip last week. And I wondered did he always sound like that?

Kind of a 'singy songy' voice, for want of a better description. Running his words into each other, rhyming off the number for people to call, I wouldn't have a clue what he was saying especially when he was doing that bit.

Just had a listen to a link there, he's explaining the meaning of the word 'tow rag'

The Jack Nicholson look-a-like was a low point for D'Arcy. IIRC someone saw him in Dublin Airport, stuck him onb social media and it took off from there. D'Arcy then had the temerity to say 'this wasn't my idea', when it was obvious the stunt had bombed with the audience. Yes Ray, blame someone else for your failings.

Wasn't as bad as him asking Pamela Anderson what she thinks of her sons mates masturbating to pics of her when she was younger. He didn't put it as succinctly as that, but that was what he asked her.

Photo shoots must be slow. To my eyes anyway, Tubs has read half a book between the 3 photos. Looking at the binding edge, he's gone from half way, to two thirds to 90% finished, while he enjoys his coffee.

And Bobson thinks we're saddos on here, hah!

I was bit surprised by that turn of phrase. Ryan never struck me as someone who’d go to enough club hurling games to appreciate the step up from junior or intermediate to senior. Just goes to show, you can’t judge a book by the cover.

A texter (his second read out today) got in touch with the show to make Ryan's listeners aware of … slush funds!

Slush fund (we're talking about expressions from the sea that have made it into the mainstream). Slush fund, cooks onboard a ship would collect the fat, or what they called the slush that would drop off meat as it was being cooked.

Nowadays, a slush fund refers to money being put aside for unanticipated costs. In politics, it refers to bribes. Not that we can condone that behaviour.
