And we need to lay down laws to govern politics like we do everyone else .... political criminals exist and never need to be allowed into office ... most political criminals are far right at present and incl far left in the past ... not that the two are any different ... it amazes me that some people think far right parties are the answer ... they are the cause of every problem in the world today ...

What caused immigration crisis? Far right terrorist groups like ISIS and Al Qaeda, far right regimes like Paydari and Taliban, far right warmongers like the Republican Party's Tea Party/Trumpers ... immigration is a huge issue with many and many spread their disinfo and hatred of all non-nationals and people believe cr@p like the great replacement theory, the great reset, and other such racist exaggerations ... what also did not help was when ordinary govts went totally far right during Covid ... ironically giving a cause to the actual far right ....

I guess political criminals need to be policed as said ... anyone dealing drugs, robbing or killing will be jailed .... so too then should anyone inciting hatred and inspiring events like Dublin on Thurs or January 6th 2021 ... and anyone attacking migrants or non-nationals inspired by social media hate need to be criminalised obviously ...

No society should tolerate anything that discriminates, promotes hatred incl racism, spreads deliberate lies and engages in acts of violence ... if your entity does these things it is far right and if it does not it is not far right .... we should differentiate between normal right and far right ... Bolsonaro and Meloni for example are not like ISIS and Trump ... the latter 2 entities killed people the former 2 did not .... this guy in the Netherlands or at least his party is linked to killings in the past as far as I know .... main reason he got in I believe is because of Rutte's insistence on a hard lockdown during late 2021 despite the vaccine ....

It explains the numbers, but not even trying to explain why and how this result came to be....

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,446 ✭✭✭weisses

Banning anything off centre is extremism imo. People need to be able to vote for whoever is on a ballot.

What killings is his party linked to ?

You could not be further off as of the main reason he got in.... He got in 25 years ago with a relatively steady support base. The reason he gained more support has to do with a lot of the issues in the Netherlands, 25 billion in reserves to tackle climate change while 600000 citizens rely on food banks, people in the North suffering from small earth quakes due to gas being pumped up for the past few decades resulting in houses being on the verge of collapsing and being ignored for years... the tax office racial profiling people who received government support resulting in children being taken from their homes illegaly. Which to this day the government didnt propely have dealt with... the big influx of migrants of all sorts when there is not enough housing for native Dutch people, houses not being build because of ridiculous nitrogen rules, ( which partially led to the rise of the BBB in the senate). 13 years of Rutte in power caused a lot of discontent among Dutch people.

    To nobody's surprise:

Wilders will gut the state to benefit rich people.

We sat again for an hour and a half discussing maps and figures and always getting back to that most damnable creation of the perverted ingenuity of man - the County of Tyrone.

And the muppets who rioted / looted / stole / are violently anti-immigration are "left wing" if anything. For example there were reports of some of them chanting uh ah Up the Ra at the Gardai, and those muppets who chant that would usually describe themselves as "left", would they not?

In a continent of PR and coalition governments, it shouldn't actually come as a surprise that the right / far right would be able to pick up 20%+ of the votes in an election. They often propose simple solutions to complex problems like immigration : 'close the borders', 'stop the boats', 'deport the criminals' and so on. It probably explains why they are good at pulling in votes but not so good at running a country (a country can't be run on three word slogans).

Not at all. It's typical right wing violence and you're weird and baseless attempt at deflection merely confirms it.

You’d wonder why Dutch politicians are so afraid of letting their citizens have a say.

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,119 ✭✭✭✭Strazdas

No evidence that the vote for Wilders was a vote to leave the EU, even if he mentioned that in his manifesto.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,315 ✭✭✭TokTik

Who said anything about leaving. Nexit would be a vote put to the people. Sounds as democratic as can be, why don’t other politicians wanna hear the will of the people??

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,119 ✭✭✭✭Strazdas

Governments are the ones who make the decision on joining or leaving the EU and then put that decision to the electorate for ratification. You don't go to the public and ask them to formulate policy for you (the type of sham referendum you are proposing wouldn't even be permissible under the Irish constitution).

Dutch Freedom Party wins general election.

Just another childish protest vote that a lot of people will end up regretting.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,446 ✭✭✭weisses

why do 2.5 million voters voted the way they did should be the question ....

funny that moving away from mainstream parties is considered childish

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,446 ✭✭✭weisses

as explained .. it wasnt, current government alienated large swaths of the population with ridiculous policies. Wilders will stay within what is allowed in the consitution and what will be agreed within a coalition.

All the hyperbole about the consequences of this election is actually entertaining to watch

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,979 ✭✭✭✭Tony EH

Voting for stupid policies is very much childish. Brexit being a perfect example of that and this muppet in Holland wants to try and replicate it. The rest of the so called "Freedom" Party's policy list runs the gamut of laughable to vomit inducing.

One should never vote just based on mindless anger.

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,126 ✭✭✭✭jmayo

And what would voting for parties that do nothing for you be called ?

There is a huge arrogance, especially amongst mainstream political classes, the mainstream media, and those that are doing well in the current globalised world.

They think that normal people, who have been left behind in the current very much globalised world, should just continue to vote for the parties that benefit them.

Why oh why are a lot of people suddenly becoming childish, becoming racists, becoming fascists?

BTW that's an awful lot of derogatory labels being fired at normal voters who dare to give the two fingers to the incumbent political infrastructure.

No one seems to answer or even try answer the question above.

They just fire out that they are idiots and are told these populists will do nothing for them.

As if the current political classes are doing much for them.

A lot of people in the Western world are seeing their jobs go, the former healthcare they enjoyed disappear, the dream of having better lives for their kids disappear, the chance of even finding somewhere to live really decrease, being lectured how they have cut back on energy to save the planet, facing even more competition from foreigners being dumped into their societies and all they get are lectures from people on the hogs back.

The right is on the rise and soon the real far left will be on the rise, all because people are getting mighty pi**ed off.

The Dutch were always the most likely next country to follow Britain out of the EU.

Will it happen in the near term? We probably won't see a vote in the next government even if GW was involved but they are on the path and it's only a matter of time.

Governments are meant to enact the will of the people. That’s literally their job. They work for us. Not the other way round. You’ve an odd interpretation of democracy

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,467 ✭✭✭Hamachi

Odd is a pretty mild critique of that view point. Utterly bizarre is more appropriate I feel.

The best argument against leaving the EU is Brexit

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,315 ✭✭✭TokTik

Yeah. The government choose what they think is best is a pretty odd viewpoint. Isn’t that dictatorship

It really amazes me that so many people don't grasp this. Sooner throw out labels and insults than listen to fellow citizens concerns and try to understand what is the reason behind so many peoples disillusionment and resentment to the political establishment.

Paddy will be the last to cop on what is happening around the world, that much we can be sure of!! Too many of us still trust media, trust which has plummeted all over the world in recent times....CNN probably has more influence here than it does in any other country including the US where they have pitiful viewing numbers.

If posters here are to believed, we here in Ireland where kids get stabbed in schools and violent thugs destroy a city centre in the same day, are smarter than voters in Holland, Britain, US, Argentina, Spain, Finland, Sweden, Italy, Hungary, we can probably add the France, Canada in the near future..you couldn't make it up!!

A few weeks back one weekend morning on radio they were discussing refugees and especially Ukrainian refugees.

One lady contributor actually made very valid comment about how she was talking to lady in Sligo somewhere I believe.

The lady in Sligo had commented that she felt sorry for the Ukrainian refugees, but it was hard for her to see Ukrainians moving into nice houses nearby with loads of services while her own sons had emigrated to Australia as they couldn't afford to really live here as couldn't afford housing.

The presenter just glossed it off saying we had a duty to help people fleeing a warzone no matter where.

That is what you are dealing with where you have people who aren't affected by lots of the day to day issues ordinary people are facing.

They just can't see it and just don't care.

It is like the comments about those protesting in North Inner city against asylum centres.

They are labelled as knuckle dragging freeloaders who probably never worked, are just on welfare, probably drug dealers, etc.

When it was people in rural areas and small towns they were termed village idiots being led by far right agitators.

When you elect a government, you are effectively hiring in a team of managers and experts (the government and the civil service) to run the country on your behalf, as they have the expertise to run the country and to balance the books and you don't.

This 'will of the people' malarkey means dispensing with the expertise of the managers and experts and handing decision making over to the general public. It would be the equivalent of Man City or Liverpool dispensing with their management team and having the team picked weekly by an online fan poll. Government by 'will of the people' would see any country bankrupted within a fortnight and probably at war with a couple of their neighbours.

Big business have their grubby little hands all over this. If it didn't benefit them . It would not be happening.

I'm to believe it's in an altruistic notion and intent. It is in my hole.

People look down on the welfare class and immigrants entering the system when it ain't this cohort of peoples that are the problem. They just pit them against each other.

Ye should look up. It's all a distraction for present and future benefits to these dare I say these higher up leeches of society.
