Many seem to think that the actions of the CC negate the failures of modernist ideologies. They don't, and never will, as the people will judge the world as it is now, and not constantly compare ourselves to the past.

“The man who lies to himself can be more easily offended than anyone else. You know it is sometimes very pleasant to take offense, isn't it? A man may know that nobody has insulted him, but that he has invented the insult for himself, has lied and exaggerated to make it picturesque, has caught at a word and made a mountain out of a molehill--he knows that himself, yet he will be the first to take offense, and will revel in his resentment till he feels great pleasure in it.”- ― Fyodor Dostoevsky, The Brothers Karamazov

But it's being presented that the homogenous Ireland of being 95% Roman Catholic and 99% Irish was some sort of utopia. It was nothing of the sort - large numbers of people couldn't wait to emigrate (and many of these emigrants wrote of how stifling and repressive they had found Irish society).

Those who are harking back to those times with fondness are conjuring up a bogus Ireland that never actually existed.

We sat again for an hour and a half discussing maps and figures and always getting back to that most damnable creation of the perverted ingenuity of man - the County of Tyrone.

    Good

because the only thing worse than being overrun by gangs of people (who do not share our European culture and liberalism) influenced by a 7th century religion that is diagonally opposite to all our values

are gangs of Russian criminal barbarians looting and raping and pillaging like they have been doing across the far east of Europe, gangs whose dear leader directly weaponised the practice of pushing migrants from the first category

Some of that insane and some parts are proper basement-dwelling incel Nazi stuff. Withdrawing an apology for slavery is just emblematic of the toxic mindset at play.

Apparently, the hair is an attempt to hide Widlers' part-Indonesian heritage.

another crank who will bankrupt his country within a year or less.

same old same old with the far right of course.

ticking a box on a form does not make you of a religion.

    Talk of Nexit is ridiculous

We will definitely see nutters like this rise in Ireland, we're just a few months or years behind mainland Europe. The scenes in Dublin this evening and what happened to that 5 year old girl will see a surge in the far right, and the centerist government is 100% to blame, they didn't listen to what the people were saying.

which people were those and what were they saying?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,003 ✭✭✭Jack Daw

If the EU was actually more Pro Europe more people would support it .However these days the EU and alot of pro EU politicians really seem to despise Europe and european people who want to protect their own culture.

And then people wonder why there might be a push against the EU by large numbers of people within the continent.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,003 ✭✭✭Jack Daw

Mad idea I know but when people vote they tend to vote for parties that represent what they want in their own country not what prospective immigrants want from a possible future destination.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,017 ✭✭✭Odhinn

"protect their own culture" my arse. Xenophobic knuckle dragging is what it is.

The communities that have been protesting against the enforcement of migrant camps on their communities.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,003 ✭✭✭Jack Daw

Nah not really.Sure some may be xenophobic knuckle draggers, but there are quite a lot of people who'd prefer not to have excessive numbers of people imported into europe , particularly when Europe can't even look after its own citizens in the first place.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,457 ✭✭✭StudentDad

You'd think we lot in Europe would have learned our lesson (Hitler, Mussolini, Franco, Stalin) etc etc., things are a bit crap for some of us in Europe so right wing headbangers turn up the fear and off we go again. Hatred and tribalism got us two world wars and Europe in ruins. I do hope we're not off to those awful shores again.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,003 ✭✭✭Jack Daw

Then maybe the reasonable concerns of people should be listened to by more mainstream parties and people wouldn't have to vote for fringe parties with extremist elements.

I'd much rather vote for either FF or FG in general election but because both those parties have steadfastly refused to act on the housing crisis in Ireland I may be forced to vote for SF purely because they can't be any worse than those 2 and as a kick up the backside for them even though I really don't like SF.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,457 ✭✭✭StudentDad

As I said, tribalistic and based in fear. If you're afraid of fire, you don't support the local arsonist.

  • Registered Users Posts: 16,057 ✭✭✭✭Loafing Oaf

The scenes in Dublin this evening...will see a surge in the far right

How so? Do you think a lot of people will be looking to express their support for this evening's 'protestors' via the ballot box?

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,021 ✭✭✭applehunter

Nationalism was a natural reaction against international communism that was on the rise in WW2.

Similar forces are behind push for multiculturalism in Europe today.

  • Registered Users Posts: 886 ✭✭✭nolivesmatter

"things are a bit crap for some of us in Europe"

How so? Can you elaborate on what you mean by this?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,422 ✭✭✭Snooker Loopy

A vote for Geert Wilders was a vote for the sort of scenes we saw in Dublin this evening.

These sort of scenes are totally indivisible from what the far right is. These scenes are their raison d'etre.

    Yep

A lot of those policies you see spouted here on boards day in day out.

There is an actual thread ongoing this very minute advocating for many similar to his law and order ones to be implemented in Ireland
