Martin was never a shortcourse tacer

Allgaier had a great race. Kept putting himself in good positions but things didn't go his way after winning the first two stages. Had to settle for 7th. I think that puts him on top in the standings.

hes gonna be close but i except someone to improve past him . likely chandler smith this year

The worst kept secret in Nascar is now confirmed , SVG will be full time in the cup series for Trackhouse in the #88

SVG is already in this seasons xfinity playoffs with a leading 3 victories and some good performances on ovals . Extra Cup races for this season have also been announced (with Kaulig).

SVG road course prowess should see him secure a playoff berth in '25

Zane Smith and Trackhouse have mutually agreed to go their separate ways ,Zane looks likely to land at Front Row Racing (who are on the front row for tonight's Daytona race).

Hamlin deducted bristol points for engine management a long time after the race .

think dinny will drop back a bit here at times .

will it be someone who needs it more

Buescher knows this is his chance . so likely to go hard

Big wreck . laJoie again causing it

Denny wont be happy with Corey

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,057 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

I think Zane is a great driver, he'll end up with one of the big teams.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,057 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

That was a pretty big one. A lot of serious contenders taken out there. I.think Bubba miraculously made it through without any serious damage.

Its going nuts now. I hope Josh Berry is okay.

Harrison Burton wins after a push from Parker Retzlaff , theres one you will neber likely hear again lol

    Bush must be mad

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,057 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Busch will be cracking up after that. Harrison Burton in the cup race and Ryan Truex in the Xfinity. You'd have made a nice packet off that if you were betting.

"We're not a demolition derby" ......Nascar President Steve Phelps said earlier this week......

Glad that everyone is OK after that , cars airborne again is concerning.

There used to be a rule that to make the playoffs you must be within the top 30 of the regular season and maybe that needs to be reviewed ; the top 10 included ; Nemechek Cody Ware,Retzalf ,Hemric and Hocevar !!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,057 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

If you get a win you are in and that's the way it should be.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,840 ✭✭✭Infoanon

A regular season 34th place driver gets a lucky win and is now in the playoffs ahead of regular top 10 finishers Bubba,Chastein with Buescher at risk is not a good look for the sport.

Cindric and Burton will probably exit after round one of the playoffs.

The old rule that you a win and being at least 30th in the regular season needs to be reintroduced , in fact top 25 would be preferable.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,057 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

I don't agree. You need the wildcard element, the underdog story.

And just as an fyi Cindric is 19th in points.

NASCAR is headed back to Mexico next year.

Why did they pick Le Mans weekend though…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,057 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Looking forward to tonight. It's my favourite race.

Looking at practice Eril Jones was top three just like two years ago. Larson and Byron the other two.

You have the fast cars, Bubba, Hocevar, Briscoe, Larson and Truex.

The practice leaders Larson, Jones, Byron, Dillon and Pierce.

Then the long runners, Hamlin, Truex, Jones, Keselowski, Buescher and Blaney.

The winner could come from any of these groups.

You gotta fancy Larson but I like Jones and Buescher as potential party spoilers.

Anyway it's going to be a great night as the Southern 500 always is.

Kevin Harvick labelled Burtons win and automatically getting to the playoffs as calling into question the integrity of Nascars championship.

Burton, Cindric ,Suarez and now Briscoe being in the playoffs ahead of Bubba, Bruescher,Chastain.... does not sit well with a lot of fans.

a good finsh . Bush said he was outperforming his car - briscoe another one from a bit from the blue

harvick will be ok with this as its his old team

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,057 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Personally I'd have loved to see Buescher make it but the truth is none of them had an earthly hope of winning the championship.

Bubba's best result all year was a 4th, same as Chastain. Buescher had a 2nd, so did Briscoe. Briscoe was 18th in the standings before last night.

A mexican driver making the playoffs is good for NASCAR. Suarez won the second race of the year which took the pressure off his team. How do you decide he wouldn't have made it if he needed to? He has a bunch of top fives on road courses including a win, he has a real chance to advance next week.

Cindric was 22nd in the standings before his win.

The only true wildcard is Burton.

If the rule was that that you had to be top thirty to make the playoffs then Hemric, Dillon, Preece, Jones and Stenhouse could have made it with a win. Would that sit better with you?

Lets say top 25, Gragson, Berry, McDowell, Hocevar and Gilliland would be in with a win. Would you be happy with that? What hope would you give any of them to advance in the playoffs.

Briscoe was the clear second best driver last night for most of the race. He couldn't get by Larson but he was the only one keeping him honest at any stage of the race. When he got the lead with a brilliant move he cleared off in the clean air. It was a fantastic drive and truly worth a playoff place on its own.

The top 25 would be an appropriate cut off, it used to be the top 30.

Burton is 34th in the standings but in the playoffs ! , Ridiculous outcome and brings the playoffs 'win and you are in ' into disrepute.

Maybe Briscoe can surprise again but Busch winning last night would have been better for the playoffs imho.

Cindric had a lucky win , Suarez similar, they along with Burton will be also rans.

Another failing with the system is whoever wins the first race of the final 8 always has an advantage and can concentrate on the final race of the final 4 playoff.

Finally ,Tyler Reddick is the regular season champion......but Larson is the top seed for the playoffs which ,with the additional bonus points , should see him safely through to the round of 8.

First 4 to be eliminated : Burton ,Cindric Suarez and MTJ !

Your a big name guy obviously. Busch being in over Briscoe would be better you say, that's favouring big names over the not so big.

I'll tell you something about last night. The way Briscoe took off once he got clean air reminded me of Kevin Harvick who beat everybody by miles when he got clean air. Maybe Stewart-Haas have got a car right at the perfect time.

You see you can't stand over your comments about Cindric and Suarez either because you don't know how they'd have done if they didn't win when they did. Suarez didn't make the playoffs last year but he wasn't far away in 19th, Cindric was 24th, in position that you wouldn't criticise him getting in with a win.

Suarez finished 10th in '22 and Cindric 12th.

Anyway you are all over the place and hypocritical. Saying it would be better if Busch got in than Briscoe is a ridiculous comment. Busch with far better tyres couldn't get past Briscoe, the right man won.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,840 ✭✭✭Infoanon

Busch and RCR have been consistently fast the last few rounds ,Briscoe had speed last night and will struggle in the playoffs.

Don't know what point you are trying to make about Cindric and Suarez , serious regular season drivers aim to accumulate points to carry forward into the playoff, they don't back off because they have won a race.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,057 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

How may rack up points all season? The Hendricks boys, the Gibbs boys, Penske and then Hamlin's team. Am I missing anybody. Cindric is playing third fiddle to Blaney and Logano. He's given up spots to both of them this season and when you let someone by you it's not like you just stay behind. The dirty air affects your car.

As for your points argument, Briscoe finished 17th, Suarez 18th and Cindric 19th in points. As I said only Burton was a real widcard, he finished 34th.

And Dillon finished 28th which was behind all the Stewart-Haas cars.

Busch and Briscoe both needed to win to get in, no difference between them. There was only 16 points between them at the end of the season.

I still can't believe that comment about it would have been better if Busch got in. Unbelievable.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,840 ✭✭✭Infoanon

Busch finished ahead of Briscoe in the regular season.......

For completeness, Chastain, Bubba and Beuscher finished in the top 14.

All four above could make it to the top 8 ,the same cannot be said for Burton ,Cindric or Suarez….

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,057 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Busch finished a couple of points ahead of Briscoe.

You have no clue how Suarez or Cindric will do in the playoffs. We both agree that Burton is a wildcard and unless he does something in Atlanta, which is not like the other superspeedways, it's highly likely he doesn't advance.

You are changing the goalposts again. You initially said you shouldn't get in with a win unless you are top thirty then top twenty five and it appears it's now strictly on points.

The better car won on Sunday, Busch took a gamble going for new tyres and it nearly worked out but his car was not as good as Briscoe's.

Larson is favourite to.win the championship but.... his ability to wreck when a second place is on offer is a concern....however he should still be a safe transfer to the next round.

23XI and Denny Hamlins 'two fingers ' to Nascars charter demands have left many awaiting vengeance by Nascar , we shall wait and see, FRM - Front Row Motorsport have not signed up either but have been more low key then 23XI and Denny.

Logano with a good win with the help of Blaney - was my bet today

Hamlin sat back the whole race and got done on the last lap !! sods law

Zilisch 18 years old wins well on xfinity debut !!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,057 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

I'm very surprised they didn't all run out of fuel. I was sure before the last restart that SVG was going to do it again. No doubt who had the best car though. How good can Zilisch be? I've a feeling he's going to be very special.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 5,948 Mod ✭✭✭✭Nowso

svg had a strange race . never had the pace needed at the top end .

very impressive to step up that quick from menards

Impressive from SVG to get back towards the front after a drive-through penalty for speeding in the pit lane. It dropped him from 15th to 30th and then the restart madness at 3 to go gave him some luck.

Good racing at the end, and Overtime was well managed by race officials.

What a bizzare playoff race ,an exciting last lap !

Bristol do or die now for Hamlin , Blaney out on lap one set in motion a bad day for playoff drivers with 10 being involved In incidents!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,057 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

It was mad, Briscoe and Cindric the only two playoff drivers in the top ten. Briscoe to ten in all the stages, Cindric in one other beside the final result.

Truex with a stage win was big too.

Cindric is third in the playoffs standings now. Briscoe and Gibbs on the bubble, both +6, Hamlin -6 and Keselowski -12, Truex -14.

Larson completely dominating, Truex doing his best to stay within touching distance. I'd love to see Martin win it.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 5,948 Mod ✭✭✭✭Nowso

Larrson wins Hamlin with a no big risk taking run to qualify

Hamlin will be all out to win in kansas

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 5,948 Mod ✭✭✭✭Nowso

ive never seen anyone have as many bad pitstops in a race as Hamlin today - wide open as a race now going to be lively

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,057 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Playoff standings after Kansas. I've had this feeling Byron would turn it up at some stage. I think he's the biggest danger to Larson. Blaney a dark horse again though.

    1. William Byron +34
    2. Ryan Blaney +28
    3. Christopher Bell +28
    4. Kyle Larson +18
    5. Denny Hamlin +11
    6. Alex Bowman +8
    7. Chase Elliott +4
    8. Joey Logano +4
    9. Tyler Reddick -4
    10. Daniel Suarez -14
    11. Chase Briscoe -25
    12. Austin Cindric -29

This morning, October 2nd ,23XI and Front Row Motorsports commenced anti-trust proceedings against Nascar and the France Family.

This is the nightmare scenario for Nascar with Michael Jordan having the deep pockets to fight this all the way, anti trust experts have already stated that Nascar will have to change.

On track - Dega this weekend with none of the championship 12 safe from elimination before the round of 8 !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,710 ✭✭✭Charlie-Bravo

How does the points scoring work each race before the round of 8? Any good links to explain it?

    -. . ...- . .-. / --. --- -. -. .- / --. .. ...- . / -.-- --- ..- / ..- .--.

of they 23x1 get a third charter . will hamlin get in it ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,840 ✭✭✭Infoanon

Good spot , many thought RFK had bought the 3rd SHR charter but it now turns out it was 23Xi

Riley Herbst is the likely driver , that's assuming they get the injunction against Nascar to allow them to participate next season.

    Denny is contracted to JGR.

Point scoring , the basics - win and you are in , after there are stage points for the top 10 finishers in stages 1 & 2 ,and then for every additional finishing spot at the finish (Stage 3) you get an extra point over your opponent. Hence why Byron 34 point lead is not safe , especially at Dega were an early elimination could end your championship.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,057 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

More importantly there is a playoff point for each stage win and five for a race win. Those are huge in the playoffs.

Tre reason playoff points are so big is that when the points reset to zero after each playoff round those points stay. Larson has 38 playoff points so he starts every new playoff round with 38 points.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,710 ✭✭✭Charlie-Bravo

5 laps to go and it's a big one. It'll be interesting to see who is left to run the final laps.
