Kylie arguably, she is playing Hyde Park but the other 2 no chance.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,164 ✭✭✭EltonJohn69

Madonna also has 4 decades of hits, those hits are a whole different level of quality compared to Kylie. It will be a fun show but she has no musical pedigree….. (god that sounds pretentious… apologies… I’m going to have a drink) (and a shower)

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,852 ✭✭✭Wooderson

Kylie does have a musical pedigree. I saw the '19 show at Glasters. There were 100k at it. It was ace. She could have easily headlined the thing.

Gerry Cinnamon is the musical equivalent of ants arriving at your picnic. Literally today.

Furthermore "Noah Khan" is what this artist should have drunkenly said when given the invite.

PS - If I had choice of giving Ireland back to the tans to get the WTs not to play this, i would.

Least Kylie's still got a decent arse I guess

    You're right though.

How many festivals is Kylie headlining this summer?

I've no doubt she'd sell out standalone gigs in Ireland with ease, but festival headliners should be different.

  • Registered Users Posts: 185 ✭✭CuriousCucumber

Anyway, it was a throwaway comment I made about none of the 6 main acts being good enough to headline.

    Let's leave it here.

Personally, of those 6, I'll go see Kylie for the craic, but doubt I'll give any time of day to the others. Luckily, there are plenty of stages to find something else I like

She was great, and I wouldn't count myself as a fan at all but everybody knows those songs.

  • Registered Users Posts: 481 ✭✭mgkelly

    everybody knows those songs

…even if we don't want to?! Get a bit burned into the ole brain.

    🙄😧

EP headliners broadly following same practice

big Dance act - 2023 Fred Again 2024 Calvin Harris

Hype Pop act of the moment with limited back catalogue - 2023 Billie Eillish 2024 Noah kahan

act with sing along hits that everyone knows: 2023: The Killers 2024: Kylie

    Snarky Snark Snark

We all do, even though 50% of them are absolute tripe, the other 50% are ones that other singers would have killed for to have recorded.

Likely my last picnic, if Kylie is the last act i see then I'll be happy. Have Patti, Elbow, Suede and Manics, Arab Strap and Crash Test Dummies lined up over coming months anyway so I've plenty to look forward to and my Beth Gibbons cd is on its way.

Now, i've cleaned the cats poo palace and it's time to go get beers and let the weekend commence.

After 7 beers and whatever else you'll be having a whale of a time

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,019 ✭✭✭Jaffa3000

More than a bit of a reach to equate Kahan with Eilish and The Killers with Kylie. There was nothing of the moment about Eilish in 2023, she'd been around for 5 years or so by that point.

Me and the lads have sold or are selling the tickets. Absolute **** muck. Last year was underwhelming but you could have a decent weekend with good enough acts, idles, amyl, viagra boys, royel Otis, killers, Scustin, Confidence Man off the top of my head amongst others.

There’s literally no one on that list for me. Maybe Kasabian and Gerry Cinnamon at a push.

Makes All Together Now look half decent now (we were somewhat unhappy then too). Thankfully most of us have tickets for that.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,227 ✭✭✭Fanirish

Noah kahan been around since 2017 with three albums out versus eillish two albums to date ( 3rd out soon)

  • Registered Users Posts: 23,233 ✭✭✭✭pjohnson

Kasabian, Nas, Peggy Gou, arguably even Faithless or Wolfe Tones should all be above Kahan, Cinnamon and Kodaline for the 6 headliners.

I've no idea how to juggle those acts into anything decent for Friday, go all Irish with Damien Dempsey leading into the Wolfe Tones?

And I don't get Kodaline feeding into Calvin Harris on Saturday, that seems very weird. Surely Peggy Gou would lead into Harris much better?

But tbf Raye on before Kylie is a good match so see why she was put with her on Sunday instead.

  • Registered Users Posts: 815 ✭✭✭dav09

Its a bad state of affairs when the 'best' headliner at it (maybe apart from Kylie) are off You're A Star, one of the worst talent contests the country produced, and to make matters worse they couldn't even win the thing.

Raye talented if you look at some of her of her music, but it's wasted on poor music with trash lyrics (especially 'Escapism').

  • Registered Users Posts: 23,233 ✭✭✭✭pjohnson

Raye is quite strong as a warm up to the main headliner, she'll be a great build to Kylie and could have even done the same for Harris on the Saturday.

  • Registered Users Posts: 224 ✭✭haitens

I just wanted a few more decent bands, will most likely sell my ticket unless the 2nd announcement has a few. No problem with the headliners it's the 2nd tier that's my problem

  • Registered Users Posts: 815 ✭✭✭dav09

I don't even want to see the stage Friday/Saturday for the headliners, they are all shocking beyond belief. Not sure who is worse between Calvin Harris, Gerry Cinnamon and Noah Kahan, and Kodaline too really.

Fanirish really is the comical Ali of this thread, Kylie = The Killers is an absolute cracker, one of the biggest rock bands in the world vs a pop Princess who hasn't written 1 of her hits herself.

  • Registered Users Posts: 99 ✭✭rockterrain

Forest Fest organisers must be rubbing their hands. Completely trumps EP for Indie / rock acts.

  • Registered Users Posts: 206 ✭✭Hank the DJ

But Eilish had massive hits (plural) from those albums and was already really well known.

90% of the EP crowd will know 1 Kahan song.

  • Registered Users Posts: 23,233 ✭✭✭✭pjohnson

I'd go so far as to have Harris warm up for Gou but Harris has the bigger name so I can kinda give it a pass hes had a few remarkably good songs and actual talent....except for fùcking Kodaline on before him which will be a weird transition and atmosphere, dont know how much crossover fans Kodaline/Harris have, How the fùck were they put together one after the other?

    Friday is just ghastly dirge.

They didn't put the best 6 as headliners and with the exception of Raye on before Kylie, the other 4 were just randomly chucked together. The quality is lacking but the structure is shocking.

  • Registered Users Posts: 815 ✭✭✭dav09

I went to Calvin Harris in 2022 in Spain and he was absolutely dire. As I've I said earlier in the thread he's very talented but his new shows are just awful, I've DJ'd a good bit and didn't even look like he was DJ'ing just bouncing around the stage, have been to probably 1000s of acts over the years and is one of the worst I've ever seen, left halfway through, it's a shame as he was quite good live back in the day.

I think maybe they might change stage format/timings to usual years potentially as I feel having Nas on late makes more sense and the likes of Kodaline during the day. As with Peggy Gou later. As with Faithless unless they play EA.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,019 ✭✭✭Jaffa3000

Noah Khan blew up in the second half of last year and is known for one song, with Homesick also getting some airplay. At best you could say he's where Eilish was in 2019 but if you genuinely think Noah Kahn has been famous for 4 or 5 years already you're having a laugh

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,249 ✭✭✭slingerz

is there going to be a second announcement of acts?

underwhelmed is the theme of the day with that announcement

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 20,881 Mod ✭✭✭✭Brian?

there’ll be at least 2 more I reckon. You can’t fill a weekend with that many bands.

    they/them/theirs

And so on, and so on …. - Slavoj Žižek

  • Registered Users Posts: 206 ✭✭Hank the DJ

There's a load more to come, this announcement is basically main stages probably/ hopefully a few decentish acts to announce that will play EA, all the smaller stages have to announce and that's where you'll find some gems.
