I changed up from the 7.99 plan cos I was running out of data using hotspot

Happy enough now as it's going totally unlimited when the next plan kicks in monday

Has anyone had any issues with roaming in the US? Heading over in a few months and want to make sure there will be no data issues

do you have an option to add an e-sim. It would work out much cheaper. Use Revolut, GoMo World, Airalo etc. they all offer eSIM plans.

Alternatively pick up a 3 UK sim from Amazon which come preloaded with data to use in the US.

Data roaming with 48 in the USA is 10c per MB, i.e. €100 per GB!

I suggest checking BNE eSIM, which is what I mainly use. It is one of the cheapest I've come across that works with a removable 5ber eSIM card. GoMo World is cheaper for larger bundles (e.g. 35GB for €19.99) but requires downloading their App, which refuses to work without native eSIM support on the phone.

The following is a screenshot of the USA subscription plans with BNE. They issue a reminder 2 days before the end of the 30 day cycle:

I mainly use their 1GB plan here (89c for 1GB) as the nearby village does not have Three coverage and this roams on Eir for which is plenty for WhatsApp such as while waiting in queue at the Post Office.

I am officially finishing with 48.ie now that Sky have there unlimited offer. I don't care if it's more expensive.

My Reason: When abroad 48.ie is a nightmare to get connected. I've been in 4 countries this year and each one was unique and time consuming to set up roaming successfully, a combination of turning off and on Data sometime you had telephone but no data then you would get the signal and then constantly drop.

The wake up was I had to bring a work phone with me last time and it just switched no messing about with setting or buttons and was solid reception the whole time with 5G.

This issue with 48.ie has been going on for years and they have no intention of fixing it

I jumped ship for that reason too after years with 48. Went on a stag to Liverpool and the network wouldn’t work at all let alone the usual nightmare of trying to get your data sorted

Too bad they did not build their own network. They are using Vodafone's infrastructure.

Went to the North and it stopped working as soon as I crossed. The North is not the EU, so roaming does not apply. Was still odd though.

Used Nomad when I was over in the US. $20 for a 20GB package. Worked flawlessly, and I was consistently getting 80mpbs+ speeds.

SIM + eSIM is a great combination to have in your phone. The only issue is that eSIMs are not easily transferable from device to device.

Roaming does apply in the north - it applies anywhere outside the 26.

By the way, I was in the north and it was seamless. but when I crossed back into 26, it switched back to tesco APN (I had been with them previously so settings must have still been in my handset).
