Presumably, most of those Americans who traditionally vote Republican and who voted for Nikki Haley in the primary don't want Trump to be president again and so they'd be willing to vote for Biden to keep Trump out of the White House, wouldn't they?

I haven’t posted here In years, gets a bit too toxic. I’ve lived in SF for over 20 years and Iam very liberal and would considered myself a socialist independent but would always lean democrat but my god, the party has turned into such a joke, it’s embarrassing to see what they have done to the city, it’s a disgrace how crime is just accepted now, more worried about ridiculous woke policies than real problems. Biden is a walking corpse that for some reason the left won’t acknowledge, the borders are wide open and that’s coming from an immigrant, it’s just a load of nonsense at this point, next we will have illegals voting….. oh wait !

I am by no means a fan of Trump or Republican Party but at least there is a resemblance of common sense there, such a sad state of affairs that these are the options.

Some will but probably not in huge numbers, but this is where RFK Jr. potentially comes into play.

For those traditional GOP voters that really do not like Trump , voting for RFK Jr might be viewed as a more palatable option than voting for Biden.

Some may simply choose to not vote in the Presidential election but will vote in the down ballot races.

Last time out the vote counts were higher for a few of the Senate/Houses races than for President indicating that some did just that , you also had multiple examples where the GOP candidates for Congress did better than Trump in terms of % of the vote so the precedent is definitely there.

RFK Jr would be a lot more dangerous to Biden if he was pro-Palestinian. In reality he's massively pro-Israel though.

There is a lot of anger out there, among young Americans especially, on this topic.

Cornell West probably isn't going to be on the ballot in many states.

Jill Stein is pro-Palestinian so I guess she might get some of that vote.

In a race where neither candidate is likely to get >50% any votes lost to 3rd party candidates could well be crucial.

It's just the neck of that Israeli government. It's nothing new either. Famously, Bill Clinton stormed out of a meeting with Netanyahu back when he was President and said to someone "Who the f**k is the Superpower here?"

They're like some kind of spoiled child who expects to be catered for, even when they act badly, only wants to be praised and throws tantrums when their every need is not met. And just like in those situation with children like that, it's America's own fault for enabling that kind of behaviour.

Biden's chances of victory would improve if he did what Tony Blair did when he became Labour leader - which was to adopt some parts of politically conservative policy, e.g. the dropping of Clause 4.

Even before Oct 7th, the Democrats were losing votes because of, as Ian O'Doherty stated in the Indo recently, their obsession with so-called social justice causes, e.g. gender self-ID, reparations for slavery, even though it was abolished in the US in 1865.

Israel is not an ally to the US and the political calculus for Biden continuing to support them makes less and less sense. What votes are they bringing to him? They're directly aligned with the Christian Fundamentalists who are the staunchest of Trump's supporters.

I think there are two reasons:

1. The fear of AIPAC and the influence of big money donors to the Democratic party, many of whom are Jewish and staunchly pro-Israel
2. Joe Biden, like a lot of people of his generation, sees Israel in a completely different light to many younger generations. To them it will always be the country formed in the aftermath of the Holocaust that fought off its neighbours a couple of times and "shares western values" etc etc. He's treating them like his f***-up of a son - acknowledging their flaws but backing them to the hilt

Reason #1 isn't likely to change anytime soon but it's going to be really interesting to see how future generations of Democratic party leaders see Israel.

I’d expand on reason 2 a little. Joe Biden is supporting Israel because he’s convinced it’s the right thing to do, in spite of all of their terrible behaviour.

If there is one thing he hasn’t done it’s design policy for maximum reelection potential, he’s governing based on what he believes. Now, I don’t agree with what he believes in but you have to at least give him credit for sticking to his convictions.

As a result of this, he won’t pander to the more left wing elements of his party. Which is probably going to cost him an election. The left and younger voters would rather abstain and give Trump 4 more years than reelect Biden. Given that it’s a straight choice between an aspiringly fascist idiot and someone they disagree with on foreign policy, it’s lunacy.

I don't think that's a fair assessment of younger voters. You have a situation where the government is actively assisting Israel in a genocide/ ethnic cleansing, yet the messaging is swallow your complaints and support us anyway. You can say Trump would obviously be worse, I guess he'd let the Israelis genocide harder?

The moral failing here is with the government for continuing to support Israel, not with those speaking against it. For what it's worth, I think most young people will still vote in Nov, I think the doom mongering is over wrought in that regard. It's a convenient excuse to distract from the poor position that Biden has chosen to take.

Trump probably couldn’t be worse for the Palestinians- although Biden has shown a small bit of restraint in blocking a shipment of bombs. Not much, but something.

My point is they Trump will be worse for EVERY SINGLE OTHER ISSUE.

We’re all disappointed in Biden supporting Israel. But that doesn't mean you should hand the Whitehouse to Trump, he’s a disgrace.

Then pivot to doing absolutely everything they can to get a more progressive ticket in 2028. This one is done, focus on the future.

Of course he can. Why can't he be, exactly? Here in the UK, we have a former Home Secretary opening calling for support to be given to Israel so they can "finish the job". As with many of these things, it's much more prevalent in the USA.

Bernie Sanders has come out saying he is worried Gaza could be Bidens Vietnam but I think that is only one of many reasons why voters don't seem to be connecting with him this time. He needs to promote better reasons why voters should vote him as his tactic of focusing on why voters should not vote for Trump seems less effective this time.
