Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Met Eireann will be caught out on this one as all of us! If it does hit of course

Moving onshore quite quickly. Looks like strike just now just off Old Head of Kinsale.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,986 ✭✭✭JanuarySnowstor

Raining now and sky is black here

Will the lightning hit Cork, who knows?

1km East of Riverstick Co Cork. 92m asl.

    Heavy rain now.

Can hear rumbles South East of here.

Heat yesterday and lightning this morning.. doesn't get better thank this. Will try get video footage if/when it gets closer.

Edit.. looking at maps I'd say Cobh / Youghal will have better views...

It looks like the western influence pushing into Ireland is weaker than forecast.

Allowing this from the southeast to push more northwestward.

There'll be a northeastward shove on this system at some point no doubt.

That system is travelling at a rate of knots, very heavy rain incoming.

Is warmer air being fed in ahead of this? I see Johnstown Castle has shot up to 23 degrees at 9am under overcast skies.

No lightning in Kinsale, looking at the direction of travel, looks like the strikes will miss us.

My family near Thurles are reporting some thunder in the last few minutes, it seems to be heading inland very quickly.

    Thunder North offaly just now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,327 ✭✭✭highdef

Some beefy looking cells popping up in the middle of the country now. Possibly some sparks for them shortly. Also a very decent cell about to land in the southeast in Wexford. Plus a few cells near the border in the north. The warm air still present in the eastern third of the country throwing fuel into the fire, so to speak.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,967 ✭✭✭Chris_5339762

Very little rain from the potential that cell had in Cork. It mostly died out as it reached the coast. It's only 17c in Cork and in my experience (cape, potentials etc all notwithstanding) its just too cold and kills off convection.

some massive flashes & bangs in east-clare, like night time at the mo

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,327 ✭✭✭highdef

Thunder just heard to my east, between Edgeworthtown/Ballymahon direction

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 870 ✭✭✭SnowyMuckish

I think I’ve heard a few rumbles just now in NW Donegal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,484 ✭✭✭Jpmarn

Still dry near Limerick City. Thought I heard some far away thunder just over an hour ago.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,283 ✭✭✭dinorebel

Big rumble just now in Letterkenny.

Looks like another thunderstorm bust countrywide.

I saw a few faint flashes around Birdhill, Co.Tipp around 10.30am which appeared to be cloud to cloud but that was it. Just fizzled after that.

  • Registered Users Posts: 314 ✭✭chris2007

    will this reach dublin?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,972 ✭✭✭spookwoman

Still potential for that cell off the south west of the uk hitting later

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,842 ✭✭✭dacogawa

It was supposed to move east and wasn't supposed to make it to land (met office) but it has now so you never know...

    Getting closer and growling/rumbling away!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,842 ✭✭✭dacogawa

Should be with you soon, it's pouring further south and banging away. I hope it makes it up to me 🙏 Met Office seemed to have it moving east fairly quickly...

  • Moderators, Home & Garden Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 18,164 Mod ✭✭✭✭DOCARCH

    Beach clearing rapidly!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,483 ✭✭✭✭Supercell

Was outside and nearly jumped out of my skin there a few moments ago. Very throaty noises to the south. Dublin looks to be in the firing line, cannot wait!

Lots of amendments and corrections to the aviation TAFs. ME clearly caught on the hop and in fairness, I think all the models really underplayed this too?

Thunder overhead now in Greystones. All seems to be elevated.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,221 ✭✭✭pad199207

An absolute waste, better in nighttime due to elevated nature

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,394 ✭✭✭esposito

Flash and a loud clap of thunder here now 😁

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,913 ✭✭✭Danno

Agreed @pad199207 - these elevated storms all seem to be morning time along with home-grown storms which seem to be afternoon-evening.

We haven't had night time storms in a good few years now. Pity, love a good spectacle of a night time TStorm.
