From his radio I got the impression that it was more like they had gone too stiff on the setup and he was crashing around

The new tires have taken so much travel away from the cars it seems, so they feel the bumps way more.

Monaco, shorten the cars by putting stubs in place of the noses (no front wing), reduce the power (turn off the electrics) and make all 3 tyres mandatory. (minimum 2 stop stategy)

    This too shall pass.

On a scale of 1-10 how important is it to the average Formula 1 fan on Boards that the only action that has any meaning on a Race Weekend is those 2 odd hours on a Sunday?

    This too shall pass.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,153 ✭✭✭✭El_Duderino 09

Silly question. There is action throughout the weekend.

The question is how would the average boards user rate a race which is likely to have little or no action during the 2 odd hour race on a Sunday?

Moving on from the Monaco debate.

As most of you would be aware Williams new owners thought it was time to retire the tradition of putting a small S on the nose of the car in tribute to Ayrton Senna. This weekend McLaren announced that they were going to continue the tradition going forward.

    This too shall pass.

At least it was a good debate. I really appreciated the back and forth you gave...

I feel like it's long since time to let Senna go. He was in thr sport. He was an excellent driver. He's gone.

F1 could benefit from looking more to the future and less focus on the past (and i think ots doing that to an extent with things like DTS and focusing on emerging markets). Not to hark back to the great Monaco debate of 2 post ago, but Monaco is only on the calendar for historic reasons. And its a real drag on the sport. Most new fans won't even know who Senna is because he's not relevant to the modern sport.

Nice gesture, no harm in it.

They would know Senna from the movie and probably just culturally. Like, I don't follow basketball but I know who Michael Jordan is. :) No idea who he played for, what he achieved etc.

never noticed this, i like it, its a great tribute to a true great

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,153 ✭✭✭✭El_Duderino 09

Yeah that's probably true. Would you say it's a good connection to basketball, for you? You know his name, and little else. Maybe thstsba good way to get new people to know about F1. But I see F1 fans get cross about the new fans who only really follow DTS.

Dozens of F1 drivers died behind the wheel, including Ratzenberger the same weekend as Senna. I understand Senna has a different stature in the sport, but it sits a little uneasily that he's often the sole driver commemorated by F1, teams, etc.

While it was a good tribute for Williams to continue carrying the name so long after he died in their car, McLaren suddenly adding it to their's feels more like a PR move than a genuine tribute. Obviously his greatest successes came at the team but he chose to leave them and that was three decades ago. I doubt there's many people left in the organisation who actually worked with him. It's a very different team now.

McLaren do of course sell a road car called the Senna too. I assume they have some kind of licensing deal with the family.

I'm sick of this Netflix generation orientated bastardised formula 1 crap show. The Monaco qualy is not on till 6pm tonight. WTF. Fcuk the yank influence that pervades f1 these days. Fcuk Netflix.

Bring back Bernie to sort this **** show out.

    Real fans have been forgotten.

Monaco Qualifying starts @ 3pm Irish time, not sure where you're getting 6pm from

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,749 ✭✭✭Dave0301

It is starting at 3pm Irish time...

Don't let facts get in the way of a good rant though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 485 ✭✭guyfo

It's on at 3pm and the race at 2pm like all the other races.... Though if every race and qualy started at 6pm it'd be fantastic.

Also, "Real fans" tend to know when races are on.

Lol. Not sure how the Netflix generation made you so wrong about the start time. I'm sure you'll apologise to the Netflix generation (whoever the fcuk they are) in your own time...

    Lol

First website I looked at for times was some foreign one with their local time.

Ps, still fcuk the Netflix generation.

    ;-)

evening races would suit me best, im so sick of f1 not fulfilling my wishes and needs, im more important!

so i guess i must be a fake fan so!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 485 ✭✭guyfo

Lol, I just said it'd be great if the were all at 6pm I know why they can't be, not like start time makes a difference to the racing!

I don't like some of the things liberty are doing but compared to Bernie they are by far the lesser of 2 evils. The man was amazing for f1 but he was a dinosaur and should have handed over the reigns in the mid 00s. Brawn's approach to the technical regs and the explosion of interest thanks to Liberty can be nothing but good for motorsport in general.

I work as a manager of a karting circuit and we host multiple club and championship level karting race meetings. About 4 years ago it got to the point where clubs were going under with less than 50 entries for some events. Now we are wondering how we can extend the carpark because of the grid sizes, up to 150 entries, mainly in the 6-14 age range range but the adult classes have grown too. A fair percentage actually say they got interested through DTS.

I don't like the way it has portrayed the sport especially in the most recent seasons but its been great for getting people hooked... before they actually learn about the sport properly!

Anything that might improve Ireland's car culture is good with me. If people get into karting properly they'll by default get a little more mechanically-minded. Those who really get into it will be into their cars as well.

I do not mind that as long as they do not use normal roads as race tracks and put them stupid whoosing sounds on there cars or any of the other stupid thing some boy and girl racers have done recently. Thankfully one advantage of oil price rises means they rearly do it any more. Home oil and road oil prices should be totally separate from each other so if fuel goes up home oil should stay down its a necessity. There should be an incentive for people who can prove they use there ar for getting to work or for work and if not tough **** then road fuel could stay higher. That would sort the sh-it out.

    Live long and Prosper

I wonder would Alpine and Alonso talk. Maybe Daniel could go back to Renault ie Alpine now and Alonso back to Mclaren although I think Alonso is happy at Alpine.

It would be better for Daniel than it woukd Alonso as he is quiet happy where he is anyway.

Why in the name of Jaysus would Alpine agree to that?

Mclaren: Hey Alpine, I've a crap driver and you've a really good driver (in spite of his age) wanna swap?

    Alpine: eh, no.
