I have what may be a general boards question as much as a boardsie enhancement question. May be a boardsie plugin question. I dont know.

I use boards mostly in the Safari browser on the laptop hardly ever on mobile. I have an m1 macbook all software up-to-date but I'd be surprised if that sort of detail came into it. Only thing that should be relevant is Safari vanilla, boardsie is my only plugin.

And how I use boards most of the time is I go to 'My Threads' and then to the oldest post I had not seen yet on a given thread. This way I always get new to me posts starting from the top. And what worked for me this way was clicking on the little caret next to the most recent post. Like here:

This would get me all new to me posts, not to Furze…'s. Furze…'s would be at the bottom.

But since I use the boardsie plugin it will bring me to the newest post, to Furze…'s post. And I miss out on everything before that which I hadn't seen yet. I always have to go back looking for the point where I left it off yesterday.

So not sure was the behaviour before I started using the plugin accidental, was I ever using boards 'correctly' or why and what has changed?

Where do boardsies click on the thread to see new to them posts?

The arrow beside "Furze" is expected to bring you to the most recent post in the thread (Furze's). As far as I recall, that has always been the case since the move to Vanilla.

What you're looking for is the arrow beside "System". That will bring you to the posts that you haven't read

Ye that doesnt work for me either. Clicking there will bring me to the top of the page where somewhere down my new to me posts would be. But not to the oldest new to me post.

Juts tried it. Disabled boardsie plugin and 'my' little triangle works as before. With plugin it goes to the most recent post. With chrome 'your' triangle works as you said and the way I like it.

Not suggesting it needs a fix of course. After all I use a Chrome plugin I converted to Safari myself. Lots of variables. Just curious am I even doing it right. Also, fkn browsers ;)

That's not related to the extension. When a discussion link has #latest at the end of it, it's supposed to take you to the "new-to-you" posts by assigning a tag to the targetted posts. However, on some discussions, the tag doesn't get written, so it just leaves you at the top of the page. Nothing I can do about it I'm afraid

Apologies, I've just remembered that the plugin does make a difference to the arrows. Without the plugin, both arrows actually point to the same link, they both (should) take you to the "new-to-you" posts.

With the plugin installed, the right-most arrow is changed to take you to the last post instead. There's two reasons for this:

    • It seems redundant to have two arrows doing the same thing
    • This restored the behaviour from old (vBulletin) Boards

The left arrow isn't affected by the plugin at all, so it should take you to "new-to-you" posts, and the behaviour of it should be identical whether the plugin is installed or not

I just use the My Bookmarks page:

    https://www.boards.ie/discussions/bookmarked

Then clicking on the thread title goes to the last unread post. (Well, sometimes a few posts down from it, but on the right page anyway, and this doesn't seem to be a BES issue). No clicking on tiny little arrows.

BTW I can confirm that BES auto-updates on Opera.

Fingal County Council are certainly not competent to be making decisions about the most important piece of infrastructure on the island. They need to stick to badly designed cycle lanes and deciding on whether Mrs Murphy can have her kitchen extension.

v0.3.3 released. Couple of new features and bugfixes in this one:

    • The bookmarks icon in the menu will now display a dot if your bookmarked threads have unread posts (you can also disable this feature by clicking the settings button '⚙' and unchecking "Display badge for unread bookmarks")
    • CMods will now be listed at the bottom of each category
    • Added an icon to show that there's a dropdown menu beside each username on a discussion page
    • Bugfixes for the user history page ("View all posts" from the user menu)
    • Couple of cosmetic adjustments

The CMods display feature does come with a caveat: it's not based off "live" data, it's not possible to directly access CMod information. Instead, it's parsed from the manually-updated page at https://www.boards.ie/discussion/2058234282/list-of-forum-mods-and-category-mods-updated-29-02-2024, so it's only as accurate as that page (although it does seem to be regularly updated, so hopefully that will continue). And yes, I do intend to display the regular mods as well, will just take a bit more time.

Rich Text Editor. To edit a paragraph's style, hit tab to get to the paragraph menu. From there you will be able to pick one style. Nothing defaults to paragraph. An inline formatting menu will show up when you select text. Hit tab to get into that menu. Some elements, such as rich link embeds, images, loading indicators, and error messages may get inserted into the editor. You may navigate to these using the arrow keys inside of the editor and delete them with the delete or backspace key.
