Why would you hope they aren't teaching kids? Is there some standard teachers have to meet that parents don't? And how would that post break it?

Absolutely, unless the parents are teachers, we all would hope the standard being met is that they are qualified to teach, and good at their job.

Posting that being a well paid but “lesser” qualified Diploma recipient, or poorly paid but more qualified Nuclear Physicist in some way affects the validity of comment on teachers, is not encouraging. Probably the vino, hopefully.

Teachers are normal people. If you want to start judging their value in work based on their opinions or actions outside of it, pay them more. Maybe house them together where they can recite Meditations every evening and spend their weekends gardening.

Anyways, I don't think teachers should be judged on stuff outside the classroom any more than someone in an office would be. The phrase "I hope you aren't a teacher." is incredibly insulting. Imagine telling a nurse you hope she isn't a nurse because she dropped a pen.

I inferred that the OP is lesser qualified than teachers and better paid, but complaining about teacher salaries being absurd.

I presumably made an even more unfathomable comment that everyone is different. If a highly qualified person was earning very little they MAY be in a position to complain.

Is there anything in the above that needs further explaining? I have lectured in the past, but to those already of a high educational standard. If I need to dumb anything down please highlight a particular area for consideration.

Oh, and no alcohol taken last night. More's the pity.

Of course it is absurd to link academic qualification/pay to veracity of opinion, effectively you are stating that the opinions of anyone with a lesser qualification than a teacher are not worth considering, because they aren’t qualified enough. Is that arrogance or stupidity? Maybe both.

No, I'm not saying that. I'm going on the limited information given by the OP.

He could only make a comparison between jobs if he had actually worked as a teacher.

Being a teacher of children is very different to most jobs. You can measure how many widgets a factory worker produces in an hour or how much sales a sales person generated in a month compared to budget, but how can you judge a teacher?

Can you test Jimmy at age 5 and test him again at age 6 to see how much he has learned? Unlikely without intrusive tests. Whereas a child may leave primary school barely able to read and write and the teachers may have done a fantastic job because of the inherent abilities of the student.

Teachers get excellent training above and beyond written exams like most of us did in our education. They also get inspected to a level unlikely to be accepted by unionised workers, where their work is scrutinised by externals.

The OP seems to have done well for themselves. Well done him, I hope he attributes some of that success to his former teachers.

Yes, as he didn't give enough information as to why it wasn't absurd. He did give information on his pay and on his educational achievement. The former better than a teachers and the latter worse. Thinly veiled aren't I really the clever one.

To your last added point. A. I only ever worked in practice a short period of time, so limited client experience. B. While I do benefit from my accountant experience, it's not the bulk of my job.

But, to your question. That is not a direct comparison. The OP brought education into his OP as a direct comparison to themselves, his pay and teachers.
