Yes I'd consider today a wintry day. Went running and my clothes were covered in sleet. That's 4 or is it 5(cold days wev had this Winter) though today is actually normal temperature for February not the 10 to 14c of next week

Blustery and chilly in Cork but getting away with no rain so far today.

Heavy rain and very blustery all morning. Sheets of rain blowing in the wind kind of day. Cleared up bit now torrential rain and very windy. Hasn't been many days like this this winter.

Thanks for reminding me , nearly forgot the match, C'mon Ireland!

Windy with rain on and off, not too cold at present at 9.9C, grey as anything.

Horrible day here in Meath, mild wet windy Atlantic muck. Turning very mild over the next few days with temperatures possibly getting to 14C in places on Monday and Tuesday and maybe early on Wednesday. Looks a bit cooler on Thursday and Friday and then very mild again from next weekend. I doubt we will see any frost over the coming week even with it turning cooler later in the week as it may be too windy, some places, particularly coastal areas could be looking at a completely frost free February with so much mild up to the first half of February at least.

Today is the first pigs ear of a day for 2022, wet and windy from start to finish.

Looks like there's a squall line slowly moving down across the country.

At 16.15 is in a line from Galway City across to Meath.

If this is the alternate to the boring winter so far, then I love boring.

    lots in the 70's

    Bone dry too

8.7mm in the one hour period 1600-1700 at Athenry. It felt every bit of that.

Yeah basically just trace today so far 0.2mm

Just look at our location in that radar

    Wind is v strong SW

    Complete wicklow mountains rain shadow

    Similar shadow throughout the SE

Our last decent rain was Xmas day

Yep absolutely rotten, wet, windy and felt cold, but only 11.2mm, it felt and sounded at times with the wind like more then that fell though

Easily the worst day since Christmas Day but nowhere near as wet as that day, although the rain tonight is very heavy. It's been raining since dawn this morning with no letup.

The miserable conditions combined with the wind has made it feel very chilly today but it's been relatively mild in terms of temperatures around 9C all day.

The charts continue to trend more unsettled with each run, plenty of rain over the next 7 to 10 days with western and northern areas looking particularly wet. The high pressure is trending further south on each of the runs too so it may be a while before we get a dry day again.

Lack of posts on the weather site says it all about the lack of any cold this winter. As a fully signed up snow bunny this has been the worst winter I can remember - barely even any snow events in FI this winter, let alone in the reliable...

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 16,769 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gonzo

This winter has been snowless across many places, particularly coastal counties and south-western/southern and some eastern areas. Some places have struggled to get more than 2 or 3 proper nights frosts up to this point with frost still on the ground the following morning. Just about everything went pear shaped this winter in terms of cold and snow. Things looked hopeful in the run up to Christmas, we missed out chance and that was it for this winter. The PV is now on steroids and the jetstream will be very active for the remaining 3 weeks of winter. RIP winter 2021/2022 you will never be remembered. The UK, France, Spain, low countries have been largely cold and snow free too apart from high ground regions. Poor as well across many other parts of Europe, the only real winner with winter this year has been Greece.

“A shambles Bill” as Eamon Dunphy once said. And that is what this winter has been like for proper cold and snow. Yes there has been plenty of dry weather which is some small consolation I guess but my god has it been boring and unseasonable. It seems like Autumn lasts for 6 months these days instead of 3.

We had the most eventless cloudy Winter in Sligo...but it will probably be the mildest Winter on record so it will be remembered for something. Autumn was also eventless n cloudy. Actually since the July heatwave it's been windless and cloudy until the past couple of weekends.
