Yeah he would be a great intact sub and the new rules would probably suit him. The performance of Durcan after a long layoff is encouraging for the others coming back.

Used to play with sligo. Bit too long in the tooth to be making a transfer to Mayo.

The leadership the likes of Paddy and AOS give is phenomenal. Paddy though example. But Aido has turned into a on field commander of sorts. As the hooter went ROD was hailing sideways to kick it dead. Aido glared at him and pointed at the goal to go for the extra score. Now, the most likely scenarios for us against Donegal is either win and top the group or lose and go out with wins for Donegal and Tyrone over Cavan , but there are scenarios where points difference could decide finishing positon in the group and it was great to see him recognise that and direct appropriately

Durcan is a serious plus… You just can't put a value on half backs getting scores and been an option. We have gone from zero to hero in the space of the two weeks. The Donegal game will be telling because if they can pull another decent performance and a result, who knows but I would worry that we are so up and down.

So to top the group and get straight into the quarter finals and get a week off Mayo have to beat Donegal and hope Cavan doesn't beat Tyrone.

    No bother.

Ya but surely ROD realised thst himself. Its not as if we were hanging on to a one point lead, the game was won. These little things might matter, look at the two instances from Galway keeeper this year

I think the latter is guaranteed. The former will be tough going.

So Croke Park is out of the picture for all the final round of games.

Is Hyde Park the only viable option?

I haven't been there in about 40 years (!) and it looks like it hasn't changed much in that time from what I saw on the highlights the other night 🙄

    Breffni could be an option (2h 10 vs 1h 40) or Enniskillen (2h vs 1h). The Hyde is 1h 15 vs 1h 55

Any of those three are probably reasonable options from a travel point of view. Would Breffni have the biggest capacity?

The Hyde is much improved, it’s a really good venue for a match now. Pitch was in excellent condition last year for the matches.

Breffni has an issue with staff/volunteers given the Cavan v Tyrone game would be throwing in at the same time in a different venue. A very viable option for other games, but not for ours.

Enniskillen has a Tailteann home QF on that weekend. Doesn't completely rule it out, but I'd be surprised if they'd have one venue going both Saturday and Sunday rather than mixing it around a bit more.

Hyde, Clones & Corrick (slight capacity concerns) the most likely options imho.

Hard to look past the Hyde & Corrick getting a game each given the recent work done to both (and more cynically the reps they have on the CCCC) & Clones you'd imagine might be used for Dublin/Derry. If Armagh/Galway was a battle for 1st I'd have assumed it'd be Corrick for us, but with our game a full-blooded do or die while Armagh are already safe in 1st I'd expect they'd see ours as the bigger draw - so Hyde for us and Corrick (again) for Armagh/Galway would be my guess.

Looks like Hyde Park so..…based in Limerick so it's ~2 hrs each way for me 🙁

The last time I was there, the legendary Jimmy Browne scored a scruffy last minute goal to win the game (I think)

    Edit: it was 1989

The Hyde is (as much as it pains me to say it) is a really good ground now They did a super job on refurbishing it at a cost of about 1.5m.

A good few counties could learn from that.

    Ok - good to know.

Maybe the TV camera angle doesn't do it justice so....and the graveyard end definitely isn't enticing 💀 😉

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,590 ✭✭✭Westernview

They could do with a stand or steeper terrace that end to mask the graveyard. But the rest of the ground has improved.

Hyde Park on a Saturday evening packed to the rafters is exactly what we need.

Not sure about Corrick though, to be fair the wind turbines would play **** with any shots

    Lads it's Carrick, not Corrick.

Hoping for the Hyde, it's a good ground and one we're well used to, and actually tend to play better there than in MacHale Park.

The pub is long closed as well so no pre match pints.
