I completely understand this, but the position that the poster is taken seem to be very common among the vaccinated

Ah that is rubbish Chris.I know what you mean in a way though, my parents tested positive last week -had my mother on the phone in tears. She completely overlooked the fact that she felt fine. She was distraught that they had caught it, was sure it was going to kill them, embarassed to have to tell people, the works.I was so angry that she was reduced to that, all due to the media and messaging around it. She completely blanked out both that fact that she was vaccinated and the fact that neither of them had any symptoms. It was just total terror, resulting from media brainwashing essentially. It is so wrong.

That’s a tough one, could you take a PCR test to reassure them your not bringing it back to your house?

Officially venues are saying that they're not allowing in unvaccinated so that's the first problem if some of the staff isn't vaccinated.

Then venues aren't being trusted because everyone is going to places that aren't checking.

Finally the vaccine isn't giving protection against getting it and I don't want to get it

If there wasn't such an anti antigen testing agenda with NPHET then it would be easier. I did get some from the UK and they have been useful for reassurance. But either that or PCR, what happens if I test positive after the gig or the Christmas party? Off to Citywest for a fortnight? I'm sure they wouldn't make me stay in the garage, but I can't see them really wanting to let me in. I don't have anywhere else to go.

I follow the science, and I'm ruthlessly pro-vaccine and I know it will stop me (and probably them) getting badly sick or dieing from COVID. But when you live in an RTE lead environment with an audible gasp whenever they see the daily case count, some of it rubs off on you over time and you just can't help that.

Our Dublin office party is cancelled (they won’t even do a kids meet up we used to do on Xmas eve). We are all however going over to our London office Xmas party which will have 1000 in attendance. Some logic

Did you put some sense into her? She was being irrational.

In the aviva today today you cannot drink a pint at the bar or near it, only at your seat.

When I questioned that's its OK to drink it at my seat with 20 other people sitting around me but not OK to drink here there was no answer.

    Where's the science there?

Most people are irrational and not that great at assessing relative risk. That's why fear-dependent propaganda works so well.

No five minute conversation is going to reason someone out of a fear that's been deliberately instilled in them by every "expert" they've been allowed to be exposed to over the last two years.

“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." ~C.S. Lewis

Just back from 4 days in covid oblivious London.

I really missed all the yellow signs

There's no science. Just an anti consumption agenda.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,883 ✭✭✭Penfailed

If there was an anti-consumption agenda, the bar would have been closed.

Maybe you missed the bit where they were for over a year.. and have been prevented from running business as usual ever since.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,475 ✭✭✭MOH

Have to say Tony Holohan saying people should feel empowered to leave somewhere they don't feel safe struck a chord with me.

I was in a place that was making absolutely zero effort to check anyone on the way in, it ended up as busy as usual, completely riddled with Covid. And the people in charge who were supposed to be doing the checks were shrugging their shoulders blaming everyone else there. Any sane person would be out of there like a shot.

Unfortunately I didn't feel particularly empowered to leave after their solution was to station guards on the exits threatening jail time for anyone who left.

If the bar was closed the stadium would of emptied at half time

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,894 ✭✭✭✭lawred2

How do you know it was completely riddled with covid?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,883 ✭✭✭Penfailed

No. Didn't miss that bit. What you've said doesn't change the fact that if they were anti-consumption, it would have been closed, as would off sales.

...so there's no anti-consumption agenda then?

4 pubs in my village 2010. 2 only opened the odd day pre pandemic. All 4 open now, not every day but far more life than 2 years ago tbh. 1 reopened the chipper next door, new cafe in the village. 2 other new businesses open. Small town a few miles away has 2 new restaurants in what were virtually abandoned pubs pre pandemic and a couple of pop up cafes and multiple vacant premises reoccupied post pandemic.

Where you in a prison? What sort of venue has gardai on the door threatening punters with jail if they leave?

Maybe he’s talking about going into prison...

God that's going to be difficult for the soccer on Thursday as you're technically not allowed drink at your seats

    Bars closed perhaps ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,322 ✭✭✭prunudo

Probably, can't have the riff raff drinking in the stands.

It’s like the science they used for nightclubs - take off

your mask while you are throwing shapes with 100 other people, but don’t dare approach the bar or go to

the toilet without it on. I’m assuming that logic works both ways though and you could dance at the bar or to the toilet maskless as long as you don’t stop bopping

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,266 ✭✭✭✭freshpopcorn

Why would a young healthy vaccinated person leave there when they can dance, sift everybody on a crowed dance floor later that night.?

I trust science of course, just not pseudo-scientific bollocks dressed up as fact to suit a political agenda…

I am sorry, I did not deny your anecdote, yet you deny mine, even though it’s 100% true. Some places improve some places have challenges. It’s the way of the world before during and after the pandemic

I was joking , and I agree some places are recovering or rejuvenating but I'd wager more are struggling. My nearest Town, Tullamore an example , enormous amounts of businesses never reopened and a lot of empty retail premises. As an aside many small businesses still dependent on gov supports and the serious rent debt still an enormous challenge, coupled with substantial warehoused tax liabilities. Restrictions aside , there have been far reaching and continuing consequences of lockdowns and prolonged restrictions rarely discussed or acknowledged.
