I like Darragh Corcoran as well, but he's had plenty chances with Kilkenny without ever really being impressive enough to nail down a starting spot. It was a bit of a surprise he wasn't on the panel last year but not a seismic shock by any means.

I completely agree we can't go back to the very same thing again this year, we absolutely have to try different things, but the suggestion from some people that the answer to our problems lies with lads outside the current panel, is unconvincing at best. There are maybe a few players there such as both Corcorans from Shamrocks that deserve a place on the panel, along with some new young blood from U20's but the idea that we are missing obvious nuggets of players that will have an instant impact at senior inter county level, is fanciful in my opinion.

I have seen Derek at Intermediate matches this year so that’s an unfair comment. To be honest from what I have seen only Cian Kenny and Mikey Carey are good enough for KK senior panel. However in saying that maybe there is a couple more who might improve if they are in with KK.
Darragh Corcoran has to be brought back and his brother worth a go as well. What age is Ronan Corcoran????

Think Ronan is older than Darragh. Killian looks a very good prospect. Pacey and a good defender I think he's still U21

I’m very interested in your reply. How do you know they are at matches unless you yourself are at the 18 matches each weekend. I still stand by my comments. How do you justify not one player brought in last year from the intermediate and junior championship and I am not including players on underage panels. I find it difficult to believe you couldn’t find 1 player from both grades? And no I am not willing to accept a beaten semi final spot again as a good year in senior.

Seriously are you kidding that only lads from development squads will make it. If that’s the case it probably says everything about what is wrong what a load of bull ****

Sure they are playing senior club hurling so that’s ok 😂 God forbid if a player from the intermediate or junior set up would be able to challenge them

This is kind of an odd argument to make from your point of view. You wouldn't need to be at all 18 matches to know they were attending matches, you'd just need to see them at one of the matches. Funnily enough your claim, that they aren't attending ANY junior or intermediate matches, WOULD require you to attend all 18 matches, otherwise how would you know?

Will go for the Boro to reclaim their title and Danesfort to win the inter.

True I am not but neither are you

I never said they are not attending ANY junior or intermediate matches I said I havent seen any representatives at any of my club matches

I did however say that I cannot understand how there was not 1 player from Junior or Intermediate asked to come in last year to see if they had anything to offer

Someone argued here that only development squad players would know what it takes to be a senior intercounty hurler

I would argue that alot of our senior inter county hurlers have failed to impress in the club games this year - funny that

Any way enough said from me on the topic it was only my thoughts and maybe i am wrong or not wrong

Best of luck to all teams left in the club championships and I look forward to the great things our senior management and county board will do next year with our all county teams or not - time will tell if the right people are in managment or the right players are part of the panels

Weather could have a bearing on Saturday, Piltown are physically stronger so might have the edge on a **** day, should be close enough either way.

Saw Lyng at 3 or 4 Junior matches this year. Know someone who was talking to him that day and he mentioned 2 junior hurlers he was there to see in the flesh.
The step up from junior to intercounty is absolutely huge. If someone is showing form in Junior, they need to be under 21 at the oldest, as any older than that and Lyng can’t afford to spend the time investing in their S&C to get them up to scratch.

Intermediate Co. Final Sunday - The Village will win by 10 points or more unless Cian Kenny gets injured, lads might say they were not good in the semi final but semi finals are for winning and not playing well in.

He has been excellent all year and has shone as probably one of the few or maybe the only player up to show up to Inter County Standard in Intermediate and Senior all year. We unfortunately have very few players who show the leadership and who can dominate their position like he can. He really has stepped up and we need more like him.

I should say, I don't necessarily disagree with your main point here, that the management need to be able to recognize players with potential at every level. I'm not living at home so I never get to attend matches so I can't have an opinion on whether there's lads being overlooked. What is definitely happening the last few years is lads are being brought in playing a league match where they get whipped off at half time and then dropped for the year. Then we're wondering why players are refusing call ups and why promising players aren't developing as we expected. Not everyone works out, that's fine, but the impression is that if it's not working straight away, Derek has a habit of retreating to what he already knows and trusts. So you've a situation where his starting fifteen in the final this year was almost identical to what it was under Cody.

The contrast with Tipperary is astonishing, and I just do not accept that we aren't able to produce young hurlers of quality. We just need to trust a few of them to develop. They won't do it on the bench and in the gym, they have to be inside the white lines, making mistakes and learning from them.

Anyways, looking forward to the county final, the battle between the shamrocks forwards and the olg backs b is as high quality a match up as you'll see anywhere in the country at club level, and better than many county matches.

As a complete aside, as someone who doesn't see too many kk club matches anymore, Jesus paddy Mullen is some tank of a man. Saw him lay out cillian Buckley, who is a tough piece of work himself as we all know, in a highlight clip with a shoulder. Always wished Walter Walsh would have used his size like that when he played for kk.
