They'll be hard to beat now and will have belief after beating 3 fancied teams.

Hard to believe none of windgap, conahy emeralds piltown or graiuge have made the semis( emeralds just beaten on penos by barrow rangers).

As Scally says on the podcast, the only consistent thing about the Junior championship is the fact it’s inconsistent!

Huge result for Barrow Rangers. Any info on how the match went?

Jimmy Meagher(sorry for misspelling? ) was part of this years backroom but seemingly not stepping away with the others

I wouldn’t be listening to too much of what Scally has to say. He talks tripe most of the time

Delighted he is gone. Too fond of social media and surely there is someone in KK that could do what he did or didn’t do. At least have a stats lad that knows the score. He was another journeyman on the circuit. I presume if he got paid and he loves KK as he says he does he will hand back the money he got.

Data Analysis in Sports is big business these days. At Inter-County level it's a vital part of the backroom at this stage, might not be too many level 4 performance analysts available.

I get a lot of enjoyment out of the podcast. The lads have their views, some of which I agree with and some I don’t. But they provide, what I believe, is an excellent service. For free. I’m happy to spend my car journey listening to any talk about Kilkenny hurling.

And for what it’s worth, I enjoy Eddie. I think he’s right more often than he’s wrong. His comments on the junior championship being an example

Emeralds had to equalise at the end of normal and extra time. In the shootout it finished 2-1 with penalties being saved, going wide and over the bar.

Amazingly all emeralds main men missed theirs. Conor Martin, queally and Doyle. Great result for barrow rangers. Been a while since they were in the semi final.

Amazing how open the junior is. 5 teams left, including O'Loughlins, and none of the other 4 would have been really fancied fancied at the start of the year. All from the same group also I believe.

Good wins for Kilmacow, Carrickshock, and Dicksboro in the minor yesterday. Carrickshock had to win the B final twice after conceding 2 late goals in normal time, but were the better team overall. Dicksboro were impressive against the Village, with Anthony Clifford, Donncha Hennessy, and Joe Dowling probably their best players on the day. A very good win considering they were missing Oisin Henderson through injury. High quality final with some fantastic goals.

Hard to see anything other than a Village win today, but they won't have it as easy as they did the last day. Other game is hard to call. Dunnamaggin are building momentum but just about fancy Danesfort, but not with much confidence.

    James Stephens v Young Irelands

As I’ve said in every Village game this year, they’re just too good for this grade. Young Irelands defence is up there with the best in this grade and they have a lot of very good hurlers. But I don’t see them really troubling The Village from midfield up. I think we’ll see The Village up their performance from the lat day against B&Ws and come out on top with plenty to spare. The Village by 13

    Danesfort v Dunnamaggin

I’ve been a big fan of Dunnamaggin all year, and right from the start I tipped them to make it this far and maybe even a final. But I think Danesfort will have too much for them today. Dunnamaggin have the physicality to match anyone at this level, but Danesfort have the bit of extra class in the forwards and experience around the pitch. Dunnamaggin need a big game out of Denis Walsh to come of this game with a win, but Paul Murphy is a man who can put the shackles on him. Gonna tip Danesfort by 3

I don't fancy danesfort forwards at all. Ireland wall apart, not much to be afraid of there. Dunnamaggin concession rate is very low this year against better forward lines than they're facing today.

Maybe I'll be wrong but dunnamaggin for me

    Kilmacow 1-14 v Galmoy 4-12

Some last 10 minutes to this game! Kilmacow were 5 points up, 1-13 to 1-08. Galmoy clawed their way back with a couple of points before wing forward Duggan finished an excellently worked goal to put Galmoy in the lead. Kilmacow almost responded with a goal of their own, but was ruled out for a free (didn’t look a free to me, but I didn’t get a clear view. Possibly a square ball). Galmoy drove the ball downfield and Billy Drennan stuck one in the corner of the net with a nice finish. A few minutes later, Galmoy goaled again to kill the game.

Kilmacow seemed to run out of steam. An extremely tough year given the circumstances, but they made big improvements and can be proud of their effort.

Galmoy had a massive finish and won’t be afraid of anyone left. If they can turn that last 10 minute performance into a 40/50 minute performance in the semi, they’ll be hard to stop

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 97 ✭✭WibblyWobblyWonderman

I don’t think there’s any other big names in the forwards, but they’re underrated. Hard working and well able to take a score. Plenty of scores from further out the field too. We’ll see soon enough

    Danesfort 2-07 v Dunnamaggin 0-09

Good game so far, played at a real intensity. Neither side showing extended periods of dominance, but Danesfort have taken their goal chances while Dunnamaggin have not.

A quick start and opportunistic goal from Danesfort centre forward Colm Phelan, which any decent striker would’ve been proud of, had Danesfort into an early lead. But Dunnamaggin worked their way back into the game, with strong defence, Denis Walsh looking good in midfield and Joe Fitz causing trouble in full forward. Paddy Hogan pulled off 2 good saves to keep Danesfort in the lead. Then just before half time, Danesfort scored a sucker punch goal. Ireland Wall brought a great save from Logue in the Dunnamaggin goal, but Phelan (I think) was ready for the rebound and put it in the net.

So far, a good game and Dunnamaggin will be disappointed to be 4 behind given how well they’ve played. Their backs have generally been dominant and forwards look dangerous. Still every chance to win this.

Best for Danesfort are Paddy Hogan, Paul Murphy and Colm Phelan. Best for Dunnamaggin are Michael Cody, Eoghan Kearney, Denis Walsh and Joe Fitz

To be fair, Dunnamaggin were good, but just didn’t have it in front of goal. Danesfort got the goals when the opportunities came and held strong. Noah Cahill is a class little bit of stuff. Really caused the Danesfort defence some trouble when he came on

    James Stephens 1-12 v Young Irelands 0-05

Good intensity to the game, some huge hits in the first couple of minutes. YI came out hard but missed some early chances. The Village settled after the first 6 or 7 minutes, and got into their flow. Some quick points followed by a Minogue goal put The Village in a commanding position that they haven’t looked like letting slip. Cian Kenny and Niall Mullins are getting on a lot of ball and picking out O Dwyer and Guilfoyle in the forwards who both look dangerous. Bateman in midfield is having a great game for The Village too.

YI are putting up a fight, but have missed a lot of chances to keep the game closer. Langton in the forwards dropped a long ball played into the edge of the square, where a goal chance was really on. The backs have slowly come into the game and are defending as well as possible given the ball coming in. Carey at centre back is getting the better of his battle with Scanlon. Farrell and Drea in the forwards are getting on the ball, but they need to start making it count.

YI with the wind in the second half, they need some goals

The Village got a scare there. YI came out in the 2nd and gave that a great rattle. Paddy Langton scored a cracked of a goal a couple of minutes after the restart to bring YI back into the game. Carey started moving further forward and was dangerous. Massive performance from Seamus Farrell as well, won some great ball especially in the air and got a couple of points. YI substitutions Diarmuid Langton and Cian Phelan really made an impact as well. But unfortunately it just wasn’t enough to claw back a big half time difference. The Village did too much damage in the 1st half, and to be fair always did just enough to hold YI off in the 2nd half. They won’t be happy with the amount of wides they hit and will want to make better use of the ball in the final. Cian Kenny is just class as well.

Danesfort will take a lot of heart from seeing that. The Village aren’t perfect and can be got at. It’s just about sustaining the effort and holding their forwards quiet as long as possible. If YI took their chances, possibly a different result.

Killian Carey with a late sending off. Not sure if it was a straight red or 2 yellows. I’m not sure what happened but he really seemed to lose the head.

Seamus Farrell was brilliant as a ball winner for yi but he was very wasteful in his shooting. Ted drea caused problems too. Kenny outstanding again. Took plenty punishment.

Hard luck to kilmacow. Should be proud of their year. Competitive in all matches. With their junior c and minors winning their Co final yesterday they have a lot to look forward to.

What stage is the Senior championship at and who remains?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,829 ✭✭✭Village87

I thought James Stephens won without being very good, we looked vulnerable at times, the start and Young Ireland wastefulness saved us. If Young Irelands started Michael Carey in the forwards on Cian Kenny it might have been a different story.

I had an account on this and lost it (old age) so decided to make another and post again!

I went to a few games recently, Village got by and had a bit to spare but they did show signs of vunrability. Gowran were game and had poor wides. Danesfort were decent and I think this final will be closer than many think. Cian Kenny was classy on the ball, Seamus Farell deserves a look with Kilkenny in my opinion. Village when cut loose are classy but county finals are different. Tadgh O'Dwyer a nice addition too. Will still think they go up.

I went to the relagation final and it was a game of two halves. I think GBC were better team overall but Lisdowney Mgt were a bit silly playing a sweeper in 2nd half. Sweeney was the best player on the pitch in the first half he dominated center forward/midfield and then they moved him to 6 with Brennan sweeping and GBC won all over the middle. Brennan was good too but the game in 2nd half was won by Billy Ryan with two great goals. He was excellent even in 1st half he looked dangerous. Tallis made some great saves. Lisdowney in all truth did well to get senior and have some average players so I think it will be intermediate for them for a while. Billy O'Neill is class too.

Also saw some of St Pats great win and hard to know with junior who wins it out. OLG meant to be good.

My own club had a great comeback in minor B but couldnt get it done. This was my game of weekend serious credit to both teams. Two class goals to get back but couldnt grt over the line. Future is bright hopefully!

On KK front exciting to see Eddie back and the Dub too Corcoran who seems to be rated highly. Will anyone go off the panel? Are they back soon?

Thomastown players were dissapointing but I dont feel they got a good chance with KK pity there is no walsh cup to find lads.
