    A calorific deficit does not rule out carbs or fat it means that you monitor what you eat and use more calories than you put in to your body.

    It's not nonsense, it's just another way to create a calorific deficit.

    A calorific deficit does not rule out carbs or fat it means that you monitor what you eat and use more calories than you put in to your body.

    I know as I have done it for the last year, I didn't change what I ate but the volume of food changed and as a result I've lost 41 kilos in a year.

    Not for me lol, hated it after just a few hours but for some it definitely is, there's almost a religious nature to the way some look at it.

    Again, it's whatever works for the individual, I knew very early that it wasn't for me but, as said, some love it.

    For an individual it may be. Wouldn't be for me, same as IF or low carb. What's sustainable is very individual.

    fwiw, what worked for me is everything in moderation/ no banned foods or food groups. But for other people, calorie counting/ food weighing/ portion control isn't sustainable.

    My problem isn't with different methods, its proponents trying to put added, unproven, benefits on top. I really don't get what's so hard about the phrase "what worked for me" without having to convert people to an ideology or justify it.

    I've found fasting very effective. I've been on the 16:8 solidly since October. If nothing else it means you cut out late night snacks.

    I've also tried some longer fasts like 24, 36 and 48 hour fasts. They're obviously good for weightloss but not sure if they're healthy. There's loads of stuff on YouTube about extended fasting and an occasional long-fast doesn't seem to be any harm to the body (assuming you're relatively healthy to begin with). There are suggested benefits such as autophagy and general anti aging effects. But I'm not a doctor so I'm not advising anything.

    It worked fine for me but my Mrs was skeptical that I had developed an eating disorder when I told her I was going to do some fasts. She felt better when she saw me eating normally the rest of the time.

    Edit just to keep up with the tone of the thread: fasting is the only way to lose weight, anyone who disagrees should get a proper education on YouTube. /joke.

    This is exactly the issue.

    Unfortunately, they don't want to listen to reason, because then they'd have to admit that there are many ways of losing fat. Ways that would have allowed them to enjoy the food they've convinced themselves is evil.

    It's a shame some people can't learn to just moderate the tasty stuff, but I also can't give them a free pass to misinform people.

    A calorie deficit and keto and not opposing ideas though.
    Keto works by creating a deficit.

    Some find it helpful. It’s not going to be for everyone.
    People like over complicating things.

    Your point in living becomes telling other people about how great Keto is. :P

    I don't have a major problem with it. Have done it in the past when I was younger and lived on my own, but your entire life revolves around the way you eat. Really has an impact on socialising and family life.

    It's a highly processed food so explains your slavish addiction to it !

    If cream cheese, greek yogurt and bran flakes is as highly processed as my diet goes, then I have no problem with being addicted :pac:

    Is not about learn. Majority of obese people for variety(hormonal,neurology etc) reasons can't moderate. It doesn't work. Especially if they grown up being obese.

    To paraphrase the aforementioned Ben Carpenter - people crave foods that are tasty as f*ck!

    Anyway (to post again as it's way/ whey up the thread) - Ben Carpenter and Graeme Tomlinson (The Fitness Chef) do regular (science based) take downs of this type of nonsense. Graeme Tomlinson also very good on food choices with his infographics.

    Carbs are the preferred source of fuel for the brain, your body can convert protein into sugar through gluconeogenesis by why bother when you just eat carbs. Carbs are packed with nutrients and electrolytes . The addictive nature of carbs comes only when fat is also combined, chips, burgers, crisps cakes and why are you mentioning mice studies , there is no real world evidence to support the claim that carbs are addictive to humans or perhaps you know a few oatmeal and apple junkies where you live?

    Only that latter makes less sense as a response to the previous post.

    Are you looking to lose weight only or enhance & prolong quality of your life as well?
    Apparently ketogenic diet offer all that, carbs not.
