Very embarrassing, you could say everyone around the world was laughing when they tuned into the Donegal Mayo hurling match last weekend

Do you not think that there should be crowds at matches? League matches up north this weekend are allowing 400 fans to attend and we still havent got any word down here when we can have people at matches

Why change it to a city ? Are we the only country to turn down the euros ? Yes or no

Bet they are glad they are not a UK company. They would be locked up by now.

At least J+J have cut the number of vaccines to everyone in Europe. The UK company consistently cut everyone except ........ guess who ?

Even while supplying them from their European facility.

No, we offered to have it.

Only just being allowed and they are further down the vaccination path. Everything there here is happening at a similar pace to the uk, just about 6 to 8 weeks later. Down to the fact that we are planning to trial test events next month, just like the uk did in April.

The euros refused us in fact

Don't be so pedantic. You know we turned them down

They wanted our public health policy to bend to their event. Munich blinked, the basques and we didn’t

Announced at what, 2 days notice? So if we announce a date for a return to sports on Friday, we'll actually be ahead of the north?

So the rest of Europe blinked and our great conservative risk adverse shower didn't

Numbers in ICU and hospitals down. More people vaccinated. No reason whatsoever not to allow people to attend matches. Same with the hospitality trade. No reason why they shouldnt be open either. Were opened last year for a few weeks when we hadnt got vaccines

Everyone makes their own policy based on their own circumstances. 3 cities had health policy that did not accord with what uefa wanted. 2 stood firm

When we opened last year we doubled every 20 days. Now with a third of people vaccinated, maybe that is 30 days but starting at 400 not 20cases. In 4 weeks 80% will be vaccinated and it won’t be an issue any more

2 cities stood firm but only one country so yet again. Why are we the only COUNTRY to turn down the euros ? Spain's and Germany are hosting them. Why are we the only country in Europe without outdoor dining ?

I guarantee they would have opened up if it had been games in the rugby world cup. You couldnt be upsetting the rugger lads

Jesus, ye really do like to hang out in flocks....

Nobody here attempted to predict what would happen in France, Germany or anywhere else, why would we....we have no idea how viral infection surges behave in those countries, we do know how they behave here...we have 14 months of data to interpret.

You've been conditioned to believe that what is happening in other countries is the primary justification for the level of restrictions here...it is a demented hamster wheel of fear and hysteria that is costing us billions not to mention the damage it is doing to the public's health.

What planet have you been on for the past year!
It is not a case of surges hiting different European countries at different times. The Europa excess monthly deaths alone show that not to be the case.

Yet somehow you expect us to believe that according to you( and some mysterious soothsayers), this surge that we did not ha,ve was because we were never going to have a surge, that the rest of Europe had in March.

It`s in the same basket as your John Ioaniddis figures on natural herd immunity. A complete load of nonsense.

We did not have a surge because of the restrictions we had in place.
    Simple as.

100%, that's why that proposed Leinster match with antigen tests and 2000 fans is going ahead......

Will leave it with the experts here to answer the above especially this question

Why are we the only country in Europe without outdoor dining ???

Would love an answer that makes one iota of sense

The thread is littered with them the last few weeks. If you are genuinely interested you will have no problem finding them.

I guess we could have taken the German route to outdoor dining.

Only for those that have been vaccinated or have a negative test.

I can only imagine the response that would get.

You or your merry men obviously don't have an answer. Now this is a fact

We are the only country in Europe at the moment without outdoor dining .

    WHY ?

It's speaks volumes for this government

I think you mentioned that already.

You realise it's not a race. Different countries are reopening different things at different times.

Checking the stringency index last night we're currently slightly below Germany & Italy in terms of restrictions.

I had a sandwich in a park at lunchtime today. Was nice to do some outdoor dining. Everyone seemed happy enough. Kids running about and all that. Lots of dogs being walked. No one screaming and wailing and gnashing their teeth about stuff. Should try it.

Just like Dublin, Bilbao did not guarantee capacity due to regional restrictions. Now you can gerrymander your criteria for frothing rage whichever way you like, but it does not change the fact the Dublin was not alone in not kow towing to a sporting body in the middle of a pandemic

Dublin didn't make any decisions. The Irish government couldn't provide assurances on capacity. Whereas in Spain it was the Basque regional government who made the call, while the regional government in Seville said they could step in.
