But yeah deeply sorry I touched a big nerve ..

Did I say I was? But yes with family there, having lived and worked there etc - I can tell you I have a hellava better insight there than the total lack of common sense / cop on as detailed in many comments and name calling on here. And don't act surprised if more than myself think the same.

if you lived 1k from the border and in two weeks time you could go and get a lovely creamy pint of guinness and sit outside in the sun taking the usual precatutions etc causing no body any harm would you do it ?

Hilarious, your calling people covid deniers and your giving out about name calling, yeah sure everybody that's going to the North on holiday is a simpleton who doesn't have a clue about the place, thanks very much for setting us simple folks straight.

Well denying covid is evident here. What other description can be used ? But yes everyone you disagree with is a "curtain twitcher" etc etc . And even more things which were never said. But nice you now referring to people as 'simpletons'

Obvious that's simply more spoiling for a fight. I'll leave you there...

The pints thing has turned into a straw man at this stage but remember just over a year ago we had full freedoms here, and a pint could be enjoyed in company as part of socializing be it in the pub, a wedding, a christening, a party etc. Now all of those things are being taken from us, these very human experiences of enjoying each other’s company and celebrating life. It’s beginning to look very stale and dull here.

Yeah its not all about having the pints, it's the social aspect of it

My own sisters wedding had been moved around a few times since last April and hoepfully it happens in September of this year. Deff not the only ones who had similar events ****ed over

The irritating thing is why are we the ones suffering while other places can have social gatherings in pubs etc?

Shur 1 in 10 pints of stout in the North explode on impact - thats why they all drink Coors Lite up there, because you can see right through it to assess the threat

I don't get this demonisation of "pints" or the pubs anyway. Who doesn't enjoy a good night out with friends? Especially when social interactions over the past year (particularly the last 5 months) have been so limited...

Paul Hunter, professor in medicine at the University of East Anglia, said the variant features two "escape mutations" - E484Q and L452R - which "are causing people to be concerned".

"There's laboratory evidence that both of these are escape mutations," he said.

"Basically, applying what we know about other human coronaviruses would suggest that this is going to be even less controlled by vaccine.

Enter Pfizer's Mr Bourla with the Good(ish) news.....(for Pfizer shareholders in particular)
The head of Pfizer has said that people will "likely" need a third dose of the company's Covid-19 shot within six to 12 months of vaccination.

CEO Albert Bourla also said annual vaccinations against the coronavirus may well be required.

"We need to see what would be the sequence, and for how often we need to do that, that remains to be seen," Mr Bourla told CNBC in an interview recorded on 1 April and broadcast last night.

"A likely scenario is that there will be likely a need for a third dose, somewhere between six and 12 months and then from there, there will be an annual revaccination, but all of that needs to be confirmed," he said, adding that variants will play a "key role."

"It is extremely important to suppress the pool of people that can be susceptible to the virus," he said.

Researchers currently do not know how long vaccines provide protection against the coronavirus.

Sleepy Joe's man then clambers aboard the sloop John B.....
David Kessler, the head of US President Joe Biden's Covid-19 response team, warned a congressional committee yesterday that Americans should expect to receive booster shots to defend against coronavirus variants.

"We don't know everything at this moment," he told the House Coronavirus Crisis Subcommittee. "We are studying the durability of the antibody response.

"It seems strong but there is some waning of that and no doubt the variants challenge" that, he said.

"I think for planning purposes, planning purposes only, I think we should expect that we may have to boost."

    Thank God for Planners ?
Cue the return of Mr Bourda to (at last) put some flesh on the financial bones....

Mr Bourla also defended the price of his company's vaccine, saying they are saving lives and will not be sold to poor countries for a profit.

Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov explained earlier this week that the vaccine's price was rising as sales were being negotiated, costing as much as €19.50, up from €12.

The prices are in sharp contrast to the vaccine produced by British-Swedish drugmaker AstraZeneca, which vowed not to make a profit on its product during the pandemic and sold it to the EU for less than €2 a unit.

Mr Bourla did not confirm the price of the Pfizer vaccine but admitted that it was sold at a higher price to developed countries like those in the EU or the United States.

"In middle-income countries, we sell it for half the price," he said. "In poorer countries, including in Africa, we sell it at cost."

The stock market has boomed - particular in the US. A lot of very rich people have made are making a lot of money out of Covid and the response to it.

    ...........

Never mind denying the existance of Covid, that has been for quite a while irrelevant,it is now impossible to ignore the rapid growth of Covid plc,and the emergence of the old elite, rebadged as the new elite, each one intent on parading their concerned, green credentials as they strive to "help" Civilization find itself.

We need to get realistic now,and accept that given the overwhelming appitite of the public for restrictions, impositions, and instructions will now be satisfied by Politicians who know know how far their previous limits have been extended to.

Call it the New World Order or The Great Reset,as is your preference, but the new reality is now staring us in the face :(

If you told people 18 months ago that they would be in lockdown for the guts of a year for a disease that mostly kills people above the age of life-expectancy and currently has a couple of hundred people in hospital, you would have been laughed at.

If you told them that we would add €50bn to our debt in 12 months and render over 25% of the population effectively unemployed, you would have been called a loon.

If you told them the Guards would be mobilized to prevent people from protesting what is happening, you would have been told to stop imagining things.

It's a frightening road this country has traveled in a short time and it's not the virus that's frightening. Finding out you share a county with a load of people who don't give a crap about their rights or their futures is what's truly scary.

The wedding cancellations and changing dates around must be a nightmare. Know a couple who’ve had to change plans a few times and like your sister still aren’t there.

I dunno how good the situation in other places is though exactly, we know about Uk reopening and N. Irl soon as well ( if not already) but wonder about places in the rest of continental Europe for example. It’s just hard to gauge because so few are traveling. But it is very dull here right now, Friday evening and can’t even get a haircut, never mind a bite to eat out. It would be great to see things reopening and would give everyone a great boost and improve the morale of the whole country.

Perhaps true,I shouldn't be too surprised at the somewhat hectoring attitude of Mr Varadakar then ?

    https://www.dublinlive.ie/news/dublin-news/astrazeneca-ireland-tanaistes-stark-warning-20397212
Tanáiste Leo Varadkar has warned that anyone who refuses to take the AstraZeneca vaccine will be put to the back of the queue.

Mr Varadkar was speaking as there are concerns that vaccine hesitancy will increase due to the limits put on those who can get the AstraZeneca jab.

He said: "They would have to wait until the end, and it's not possible to know when the end would be but it wouldn't be June or July, it would be later than that.

“The way it works is people are offered a vaccine, nobody gets to choose which vaccine they get and nobody has been able to choose which vaccine they get since we started vaccinating people three months ago and people are free to accept and decline the vaccine they are offered.

“But if they decline their vaccine it’s not possible for us to say when they’ll be offered the vaccine again or whether it’ll be the same vaccine type or a different one.

“You’re offered a vaccine, a vaccine that’s safe and effective and one that all the scientists, experts and doctors say is safe and effective.

That all sounds quite threatening to be honest, particularly from a medical Doctor....

His suggestion that ALL Scientists,Doctors and Experts are satisfied as to Vaccine efficacy is not at all acceptable, given the well publicised concerns of madical professionals Worldwide.

There is nothing threatening about that, juts saying it as it is. can you imagine the chaos if everyone was allowed choose their own vaccine? Maybe next year or whenever if an annual shot is needed etc but for now we need to get as many people vaccinated as quickly as possible

But all those concerns are being ignored, and will continue to be ignored. The talk will switch to a universal basic income and a carbon footprint (digitally controlled) soon, in my opinion. A universal basic income is already being promised in Scotland, where the government also has one of those magic money trees.

NHS is the same, you get a letter with your offer and what type it is.... you let them know if you're attending by x day, if not they offer it to someone else....

if you have a valid excuse for not taking one type for whatever reason, you're put on a waiting list for an alternative.... sometimes it's the same appointment, sometimes not, it's supply and demand

If you're being practical about it, how else would it be manageable?

Which is easiest, and fastest ...

    a) Ask everyone if they want a vaccine.
Make a list of all who respond.
Get all on the list to come in, a thousand at a time, to get vaccinated with whatever vaccine is on hand.

    b) Ask everyone which vaccine they would like.
Make multiple lists for each different vaccine.
Organise people to go to different places, depending on vaccine
Organise the vaccines to go to the correct places.
If supplies of one vaccine run out ask people what they would like instead
    etc. etc.

    How would you organise it?
