    Welcome to FG Challange Quiz

    Format

Each player will play alone and PM me their answers, PLEASE DON'T POST ANSWERS ON THE THREAD
Each day I post questions, players will have until midnight the same day to PM their answers.

    Stage 1

Everyone will be in the same group.
I will post Rounds 1-3 on Monday and Round 4-7 on Tuesday
Reveal will take place on Wednesday evening (time TBC)
Those in the top half of the table will advance into The Winners Group for Stage 2
Those in the bottom half will go into the Runner Up Group for Stage 2

    Stage 2

    Two groups, please see above.
I will post Rounds 1-3 on Thursday and Rounds 4-7 on Friday
Reveal will take place on Saturday evening (time TBC)

    How the Tie-Breaker works

Each stage will include 2 tie-breaker questions which I will ask you to answer. Questions will be posted with Rounds 1-3.
Tie-breaker answers will be used only to separate players when making the cut at stage 1 and to separate top place in both groups in stage 2
Your answer to tie-breaker question 1 will be taken first, closest player to the correct answer will go through. If answers are the same, we will go to question 2. If there is still a tie, the player who PM'd me first will win.

Is it the honour system as far as Google goes? It's just that, well, I don't trust a single person on this site is all.

Yeah it is an honour system, no other way of playing these games here.

It seemed to work fine in previous quizzes.

I'm back on earlies tomorrow :)

I will post the questions in the morning, probably before 10am and you will have until midnight to pm me.

I think that will give everyone plenty of time to take part.

Just to note, no need to sign up for this in the other thread, once you pm me tomorrow you are automatically in the game :)

I tried to play Trivial Pursuit with my family last night. It did not go well and does not bode well for my success in this quiz.

Ah lads! Ye had to mention school on a Sunday night. Now I am depressed- memories flooding back of not doing a tap of homework all weekend and having to face the music in the morning :(

    Welcome to Stage 1

    Stand by for Rounds 1-3

Please do not research your answers
You have until midnight to PM me.
I would prefer all answers in one PM, though it is up to you how you do it. I will also allow you to change any answers before the deadline.
All questions are worth 1 point unless otherwise stated.
Please discuss anything here during the game without posting any answers

    1. Film & TV

How many contestants are on each team in ‘University Challenge’?
What was the real name of ‘The Saint’, as featured in a series of books by Leslie Charteris and a 1960s TV series starring Roger Moore? (I will accept surname or both)
In which English seaside town was ‘Fawlty Towers’ set?
Rhea Perlman, who played Carla Tortelli in Cheers, married which actor in 1982?
Nicky Campbell, Bradley Walsh, John Leslie and Paul Hendy have all presented which UK game show?
The car in the TV series ‘Knight Rider’ was called KITT – but what did KITT stand for in the original series?
Who played Peter Venkman in ‘Ghostbusters’ (1984)
Who has directed movies from the Home Alone and Harry Potter series.
The Nag’s Head is the name of the pub frequented in which UK sitcom?
Which is the only movie from the Dirty Harry series directed by Clint Eastwood?

    2. Geography

Which UK airport has the IATA code GLA?
What colour is the District Line on the London tube map?
Which non-European country has an Atlantic and Mediterranean coastline?
How many US states begin with the letter 'A'?
In which European city would you find the Spanish Steps?

    3. History

Who was the sixth wife of Henry VIII?
In what year was Barack Obama inaugurated as the 44th president of the USA?
Who was the first democratically elected President of Russia?
Which major war began on 25th June 1950 and lasted over 3 years?
The sinking of what ship in 1915 eventually led to the United States entering World War I?

    Tie - Breaker

The US state of Hawaii, is made up of how many islands in total?
Of the 52 matches played at the FIFA world cup in the USA in 1994, how many goals in total were scored?

Sod it. I’m entered. No amount of staring at some of those questions will change what I don’t know.

I didn’t mind the geography ones though so more like that please, Kol.

I think I read the USA tie breaker question wrong.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,511 ✭✭✭Purgative

    In. Good questions Kol.

They sort divide into 4 camps.

    - Know it
    - Think I know it
    - Could guess from possibles
    - Of Fudge

From the few players who have PM'd me so far, I would advise you to double check that you didn't misread the questions and it goes for everyone I guess.

You can change your answers if you haven't googled them already before the deadline.

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 17,928 Mod ✭✭✭✭Trigger

Didn't find it as bad as I first thought when I engaged my brain a bit, I really don't do that enough :D

Knew a few, especially in the TV ones, educated guesses for a few and absolute random guesses for many.

Not going to read back on them now, just going to wait for the reveal so I don't rack my brain :D

Some of them are on the tip of my tongue but they won't come out
Some of them I am torn between two answers, and you just know you are going to pick the wrong one

:D I didn't mind the geography questions either!

Couple of the ones in other categories I just flat out guessed tbh though!

I feel I'm being lulled into a false sense of security, a couple of educated punts, quite a few there that have come up in table quizzes I've done before, and mostly starting with things in my general knowledge wheelhouse... which probably means I'll know sweet feck all tomorrow.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,009 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

I think I guessed more than I knew......

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,732 ✭✭✭Mollyb60

Answers are in. That was..................ok. I guessed a lot though and made up a few answers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,515 ✭✭✭aaronjennings

There are three that I should know, but can't think of, those are frustrating as hell

The rest I either know or have educated guesses for

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,835 ✭✭✭ari101

Hopefully I won't be the only one hopelessly making up random stuff... :D

    Just sent my answers there.
Initially I thought that I was completely out of my depth, but it was kind of OK in the end.
Had 3 don't knows and 6 lucky guesses - couple of them a bit educated guesses, so fingers crossed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 609 ✭✭✭Hillybilly4

    My "answers" are in.
Fun to exercise the old grey cells.
    There were some questions...not a clue! :D
    Thanks for running this, Kolido.

Hi Aris, I just checked and I don't see your PM, can you send again please.

I had no idea Dirty Harry was a series of movies.

Other than that, quite a palatable selection of questions.

I think I've done well, which I'll need to do to make up for any Maths round.

The Tube map question comes up in lots of quizzes and I always guess. It’s probably not that difficult to learn them all but I can just not be bothered. I’m not even sure I’d be bothered if I was living in London.
