How often have you seen a winger made captain? If you think about it for a while, you might see there is a reason for that.

Dan Evans is captain tonight for ospreys from 15

no big deal with having a back 3 player as captain

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,914 ✭✭✭Rigor Mortis

To be fair FB is different to wing. FB has a better view of the totality of the game and is better positioned to engage with the full team. Wing is a terrible position to captain from.

Clear winner on the poll, though I have to say I'm terrible disappointed 'Koh Samui Cup Championes' didn't do better, some of you really need to send it.

Can we get the poll taken down? There’s an awful habit of leaving them there meaning more stuff to flick by on some threads.

I wonder will Osbourne end up as a 13?
I think this is his 2nd start and both have been at 13.

    Anyone know anything about Corkery?

From Kilkenny RFC, he was starting outhalf of very talented u18 club side in 2018, but didn't make an irish u18 sides that season. He failed to make the Leinster u19 summer training squad after initial selection but was brought in as an alternative after injury ruled out another outhalf, he went on to be the starting outhalf for the leinster 19's in the interpros over highly rated schools outhalves, one of whom played for ireland u18.

He earned a sub-academy place after his time with the 19's and a Leinster 'A' appearance while still only 18, He made last season irish 20's a year young and was the bench outhalf in the three games they played. He faces strong competition for this seasons 20's 10 jersey but he would have to be favourite for it now. Finally he is very young for his age grade, not turning 20 until December.

Osborne is a very big boy.

Initially I thought he was a bit wiry and undersized - something to be absolutely expected for his age.

But Leinster put up a pic of him beside Tracy, JOB and Hanan last week after Zebre and he's massive.

A center of his physical profile and ability could be a lot of use to us. I think he'd be a very good fullback also

Any idea if Conor O'Brien is expected back?
He looked like a real handful when he got a couple of games but it's been so long since he played it doesn't look great

Saw him playing fullback for Leinster u19s a while back and he was indeed very good. Scored a beautiful try where he cut a brilliant line from deep and cut clean through the Connacht defence from 40-odd metres out. Definitely went away from that game thinking Osborne was the standout back from that age group, which was a surprise as at the time I had heard lots about Cosgrave and Karl Martin but very little about Osborne.

Martin was playing a year up for that 19's side and at that stage had played two years of irish u18's with another season to come at that stage.

Cosgrave had all the schools hype around him from a young age.

Not much was known of Osborne really until this season, apart from his impressive showings at 15 for leinster u18's and on the wing for ireland u18's.

You see this is why democracy doesn’t work. You give people the vote and they’re stuck with the thing.

It's amazing really that they are playing Osbourne at 13 considering he doesn't really have any experience there. He's 19?
Must be a bit of a natural footballer.

    Turns 20 in november.

He played centre underage for his club and school. But he has no experience there at a interprovincial level etc.

Must be a bit of a natural footballer.

He played 13 for the A team in the interpros vs Ulster, played 12 vs Munster the month before.

He definitely seems to have the skill level to cover across the backline.

At the moment Dev should be resigned. I expect Fardy will be released and Toner is playing decent rugby for Pro14 level. He will be a great player to have during the international windows

Especially when your playing so many young academy players in those windows having the experience of someone like Toner in the team is huge as long as he can keep it up.

Literally all of his senior rugby has been at 13 not including A games.

    Where else would he play?

Leinster are pretty much at their limit now. The squad has managed the last few months expertly, but injuries and Ireland call ups have stretched us extremely thin.

For the final I hope we'll be given as many test players back as possible. I honestly don't care about the QF the following week. A league final must always take precedence.

Really hoping we get the fringe Irish lads back next week.

If we manage to get Ruddock, Ed, Lowe, JGP, Ross, Baird, Larmour back that will be helpful.

I'll be pragmatic and say we won't see Frawley or Penny next week which is problematic.

Could be looking at a ROL, JOB midfield.

    Or maybe they'll back Osbourne.

Against Farrell and DDA it's s big ask
