Right now im trying to decide if i will cook for myself or get a takeaway later on and what i will get from the off licence. Shall i go for walk outside now or later, ya know simple things

Interesting position the government is in.

Any easing of restrictions and they are giving in to yobs.

Don’t ease any restrictions and they risk bigger protests

Why do you have a problem with them being called violent scum?

Coming on Boards.ie and calling them "scum" isn't a solution to the real issues as to why they are angry and why they have engaged in violence today with the Gardai. Where is the solution to stop this from happening again? we need real solutions and not soundbites. Violence is not the answer as we have both now clarified.

I have said that these individuals need assistance, so we can keep them well away from online disinformation from the groups that want and encourage violence in Ireland.

Just because I don't use the word "scum" does not mean I somehow support what they did today. I have now repeated multiple times that violence is unacceptable.

It's become a much simpler one today. The violence, no mask wearing and thuggish behaviour from protestors today will force moderates away from them by association. Any future protests will be dismissed as from a deranged fringe section of society who doesn't represent the population at large.

It's like the kind of outcome the FG/LAB government tried to achieve by demonising water charge protestors only this time the protestors are dumb enough to do it without assistance. :D

The only assistance these violent scum needs is firstly by the baton and secondly by the prison service.

    That is all.

Whatever about the violence, why are so few protesters wearing masks?

I can understand protesting lockdown, but there's no good reasons for not wearing a mask.

I'd imagine they're the type of people to call them "face nappies"

Calling these people "scum" is being generous/flattering imo.

One scumbag aiming a firework at a Garda is absolutely disgraceful, you won't find anyone on here defending an idiot like that!

But a Government using its power to prevent a protest against the actions of that Government is crossing a line that is far more serious...

Surely you can differentiate between the actions of one idiot and that of the State?

This idiot could have killed someone today.

Sorry, excuse my ignorance but a few questions..

    Was this protest allowed?

If it was allowed, where were the stewards?

If not allowed, why?. Was there intelligence that people would bring fireworks to a peaceful protest?

Why Stephens Green?. Surely if there is so much public outrage, there'd be enough numbers to have localised protests?. This would show the real outage as opposed to an area where local scangers can join in.

Looking at the videos,it just wasn't one idiot. Others were also throwing bottles and fireworks,again...where were the stewards?

    Any other protests planned?
It will be interesting to see how they go. Not sure how I feel about this one, obviously some scumbags at it but it shakes things up about it.

    https://www.gov.ie/en/campaigns/c36c85-covid-19-coronavirus/

That's the page I took a screenshot of. The main page of the covid info site. No mention of exceptions unless you go digging.

The HSE page you linked has a big yellow/black banner across the top that says "Stay at home – level 5 restrictions are in place nationwide."

Further down it lists exercises like "join a walking group" (not allowed), "turn your commute into a workout" (what commute?) and "Joining a club or society is a good way to make new friends and get active." (?!?!). In fact the only mention of covid-19 on the HSE exercise page is the banner that tells you to stay home.

And sure, RTE can say "exercise within 5km" as much as they like, but when people are being told on the daily that staying home saves lives, and actually believing it's life or death, that is not what happens in practice.

You've healthy thirty-year-olds in this country who are afraid to leave their houses because they think they will die if they contract SARS-CoV-2. Because the media; journalists, whose job it is to make things clearer, are being derelict in their duty far too often. Most people don't know how exceedingly rare outdoor and asymptomatic spread is now thought to be. Don't know that a child has as much chance of dying from Covid-19 IF they get it as they do of being injured by a toilet on a given day. People are not well-informed in any meaningful way, and when you say things like "stay home, save lives, hold firm, also you can go for a stroll", I put it to you that a LOT of people will think "better not".

    Don’t go digging, go reading...

There are 30 year olds who will die if they contract it... I was talking to one yesterday on FaceTime, a CF sufferer... he and his family are fed up to the back teeth of having to manage his 19 year old kid brother. His parents are at risk too. I have friends and family who are asthmatic too.

Everyone I know is exercising... it’s the one positive from this shîtshow... people have been given a wake up call... not only getting out for walks but ordering equipment online, joining online gym classes... being fit, healthy, well, improving their quality of life and putting this ahead of greedy employers, needy dweeby fûcktards who can’t spend time away from others... and couldn’t care less about harm or potential harm they could do.

Health and wellbeing first... fûck anybody who wants to risk your health or that of your loved ones..

There was an anti-vaxxer scheduled to give a talk. This was an anti-everything protest.

You have as much information as I have.

Protests have to begin somewhere...who knows, we could have localised protests in the coming weeks.

Yes everyone is fed up but what went on today was ridiculous.

Again I'll say a lot of those would go to any protest..

All this does is puts us in danger of longer lockdown.

I'd like to know how many there were protesting because they,rd out of work or their business is closed

It turns out you can’t refute the points I made because they are factual.

I want you to think about what you typed here.

You are content that the sum total of your freedom right now is choosing what you have for dinner or what time you go for a walk.

    That’s bizarre

One person setting off a firework doesn't equate to societal breakdown.

What happened today was not acceptable in a civilised democracy. How you can endorse it is beyond me and frankly illustrates a very poor understanding of politics and public health.

Come on admit it , it was a silly comparison

The fact that Gardai were attacked with fireworks shows the caliber of person you are dealing with... that isn’t a situation getting heated...

    That is premeditated, organized violence...

    Violence was planned...

don’t like restrictions ? I know, attack Gardai with fireworks, .. bunch of absolute ****, hope the courts throw the book at them.. custodial sentences would be nice..

Watched the gathering at the GPO via webcam, thankfully a damp squib, I'd say not more than 100 attended. Muppets & Morons essentially with clearly nothing more to do on a lovely Saturday afternoon.

Is maith an scáthán súil charad.
