Exactly the same number of doses the UK are getting from India at about the same time. Looking more likely that AZ had no intentions of using that for EU supply.

SII isn't approved by the EMA. Can't use it.

The whole Halix thing is odd. Does anyone know, when AZ requested the approval mechanism for this plant EU mechanism of control. I understood that the it has been used to make vaccines, indeed for other countries. Back in late Jan, Breton visited and audit data for approval/license to use the vaccines was due. The FT and Politico articles mentioned confusion of where the sticking/block was - had/when EU been asked for approval, if yes, was the hold up with EU approval etc.
    That was in February.....

That is quite a statement ! If I recall correctly, wasn't this plant named in the EU contract with AZ....
    I my be wrong.

Reuters reports here that EU governments were considering launching talks with Sputnik V developers.

    - Italian plant likely to produce vaccine Sputnik V but plant owner says they will produce other vaccines too.
    - It was not clear whether states that have ordered Sputnik V in bilateral deals would be interested in joint EU procurement.
    - Some EU leaders say Russia is using vaccines for propaganda purposes.
    - Mario Draghi has said EU must buy more doses including from outside the bloc, and expand vaccine production.
    - EMA approval of Sputnik V could come in May.
    - Berlin and other countries discussing Sputnik V production.

Wish the US would use their unused Astrazeneca vaccines for propaganda purposes!

Even if the US decided to send it to us in the morning we'd still have to wait for EMA approval of their factories :D

They are, we're just not the intended audience.

I'm not talking about SII, I'm talking about the Halix factory.

10 million AZ doses getting unlocked for the EU when the Netherlands factory is given clearance on March 25th. That means 100k doses for Ireland. We'll be jabbing large number at the beginning of April with those new doses and the stockpile built up from the suspension.

Then the Johnson & Johnson deliveries begin mid-April and the yield from the new Pfizer factory in Germany, plus increased numbers from Moderna.

It's always darkest before the dawn :)

Absolutely : the belief is now that we will be well into the millions with at least one dose by the end of June (possibly 3m+, or 80% of the adult population

Well it's purely down to deliveries coming into the country. As said above, early to mid April is when we should see a big shift and the actual mass vaccinations of the general population get underway.

Both my parents got their first jabs together today, so delighted with that! Mid 70's in West Cork. They Got Moderna and were told they'd be 92% protected in 2 weeks and to pop back for the second jab in 28 days.

They'll be back clubbing in no time!:)

Don't think you do need to wait. CTA
    You might need an address.

Maybe things have changed but but Irish, UK citizens have more or less the same rights in each other countries.

Same in Italy, after another death yesterday. The news is just in.
At first it was just a stop with the bad batch, now it's the whole supply.

Is part of the problem with AZ that they are making the vaccine on a "Not for profit basis" ?
It doesn't seem like they were particularly bothered about production delays or whether facilities had EMA approval.

For example, just take the number of Covid19 deaths in Germany. 73,000 to 83 million makes 1 in 1,336. When vaccinated, the risk of thrombosis is 14 in 10 million, i.e. 1 in 714,286. The risk of dying from Covid19 is about 500 times higher than getting a thrombosis because of the vaccination.

What does new guidance mean? The results of the investigation into the Norwegian deaths? The Irish Times said that this would happen on Thursday, not tomorrow. Has it been accelerated?

Hard to see the EMA say anything other than the vaccine continues to be safe to use.

Macron - Suspension should be in place for just 24hrs. EMA updated opinion expected tomorrow afternoon

I don't think anybody has assigned a risk of thrombosis to any of the covid vaccines.

The problem is AZ, they just don't have the experience.

EMA are carrying out an accelerated review.

They started last week on the inital reports and have been looking into the Norway data since the weekend appearently.

It seems that Ireland expected EMA guidance Thursday but France appear to have updated timelines.

Personally I don't expect the EMA to change guidance on their safety opinion

Could Ireland lift our suspension tomorrow afternoon too if updated EMA guidance is issued then?
