Surely it would be a good idea to move the Champions League away from Istanbul so supporters can attend easily, especially as 2 English teams are in the final ?

It would be nice for the billions of people who will watch it around the world to see there is some light at the end of the tunnel for them.

Possibly yes but then there's also the chance the UK are only putting Turkey on the list to try and force UEFA to change it which wouldn't seek right either.

The Sinopharm vaccine has now been approved by the WHO and is deemed efficacious against COVID 19. This is the primary vaccine administered in the UAE.

How long will it take for it to be added to the list of vaccines that exempt one from MHQ? Soon I would hope, as Hungary has adopted Sinopharm in a big way.

What, nothing to do with the state of the pandemic there. No one would go anyway, would you ?

Wait, there are a few more places on the UK green list! This is the one on the BBC:

    Portugal
    Israel
    Singapore
    Australia
    New Zealand
    Brunei
    Iceland
    Gibraltar
    Falkland Islands
    Faroe Islands
South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands
St Helena, Tristan de Cunha, Ascension Island

Tristan de Cumha, here we go!

I mean their daily cases have been decreasing for weeks and only after the two English teams make the final do they get put on their red list, and not like Boris wouldn't be unlikely to do something like that.

The UK list makes a mockery of the Irish hotel quarantine list. France and Italy have no business being on Irelands hotel list

Any word on Wallis & Futuna? I know they cant come here, but surely we/the brits can go there ?

What is Ireland's advice on travel to Turkey ?

What's the story with travelling into NI for a non-essential journey once inter-county travel opens.

Is there any grounds to be stopped due to restrictions at either side. Is travelling to NI still considered non-essential travel?

    Cheers

Well it's an open border so who will stop you and secondly, no because there's no actual law against leaving the country.

Well no, it didn't apply to Spain anyway but it's almost certainly going to be mentioned in the dubai2 case.

Mhq for absolutely essential travel was always terrible wrong but then, either it's needed or it's not so actually, this just weakens the case for it IMHO.

Edit: just checked the latest si list and no mention of this

The test on return 2 days after is surprising in the UK from a green country. If vaccinated you now need 2 tests.

Presumably the PSNI could turn you around if they consider your journey non-essential. Have you been stopped travelling into NI during restrictions?

Nope. Is there restrictions in the north?

Yes. Outdoor dining only and hotels are not open yet except for essential workers. Shops are still shut. I.think 24th May is their next date for opening but I stand to be corrected on that

Shops are all back open, think almost two weeks now. Was up there last week for work and it was mayhem and bumper to bumper southern cars

As another dull dreary Irish week draws to a close just wondering what posters think following the week. Are we closer to travelling again or has it been another disappointment?

Danger of Variants etc still loom

I'm flip flopping all week (holiday pun sorry). Hard to know, I think overall there is a bit more discussion unfolding in the media as time goes by. Government ministers are all over the shop as ever, contradicting both themselves and eachother time and again.

Some government senators were very strong in the Senad today about the need to get things moving but then the top brass like Donnelly seem set against international travel until the end of the summer at the earliest.

Part of me feels that the Summer may slip away but the main thing for me is whether the travel fine lapses or not.

I WFH and therefore the 14 day home quarantine isn't a problem. The family is only half Irish and my other half really wants to get home for a few weeks.

We are lucky to have the WFH option, I know many are not and are in a real bind with regard to family abroad.

The reaction to Lidl selling antigen tests from NPHET and the HSE has truly been something to behold today. As the days and weeks go by more and more people are getting together for a few drinks. In the vast majority of cases this is just a handful of people. Holohan suggesting that we will all be going on wild parties on the back of a negative Antigen test result is beyond insulting.

No. Go with what you are comfortable with. There has been a huge sacrifice.

It was both laughable and idiotic and it made for dreadfully embarrassing reading. Talk about trying to remain relevant. Literally 'hanging on by your fingernails' stuff on their behalf

Probably a bit more negative after the list the UK put out. I was more optimistic before that of getting somewhere from August on.

In the context of travel limits I meant, as the user was asking if the psni would turn him around based on travel restrictions. I thought it was obvious enough from his comment:

The main headline on the RTE news app this evening :

“NI minister asks government to prevent cross-border travel “

There will be no f*****g end to this. Aren’t the majority vaccinated in NI?

    Tony H on travel :

“ While people are asked not to begin planning trips abroad yet, Dr Holohan said he hoped to provide clarity on the situation “in the not terribly distant future”.

I wonder when the ‘not terribly distance future is’? A day, week, month, year or 10 years?

Said minister is playing games with Sinn Fein, basically being a smartass and riling them up.

Nothing to see here. Of course RTE wouldn't question his true motives or anything like that.

EDIT. This story (if you can call it that) broke first thing Friday morning and was fairly widely reported by media outlets.

Why RTE are now running it as their lead story almost a day later... well

    Hopefully it’s been ignored :

“”Asked if the easing of inter-county travel rules applied to Northern Ireland, a Government spokesperson here said that from Monday inter-county travel is permitted "anywhere on the island".”

    I hear ya.

My only hope and it may be forlorn hope is that this was the UK's first cut at it. Despite the vacination rates perhaps they just don't want to be seen jumping head first into travel reopening.

It's still only the first week of May and the list will be updated in a month's time I understand.

It's being asked already but I didn't see an exact answer, does NI set all their own Covid restrictions or are there certain areas in which they will always follow London?
