    Fully agree with them
I go out to work everyday
My workplace is located very close to a town with a large meat factory with many hundreds of foreign workers, including Brazil.
If any of them fancy going home they've to consider the MHQ on return. If any decide to fly over family members, MHQ is a huge expense.
If the company decide to get 50 new workers in from Brazil they have to factor in MHQ

So better to have this deterrent than cases of covid variants spreading around our locality
As already there are multiple schools in the area with pupils and staff at home isolating due to community transmission
Why dont you just come out and say it."I dont want anyone from brazil in my country".
You Mite come across a little bit racist but sure,so what.

With Coveney pushing international travel to July, I wonder what some here who thought they were being reasonable to expect travel in June, will have as their next excuse to agree with everything?

When people wanted visitors put on islands and electronically tagged you know this pandemic has exposed a lot of vile attitudes that were previously unsurfaced.

The €2,000 travel fine's sunset clause in June is going to be very very interesting. If that gets renewed they have no intention of letting us out of here. And lets be honest it wont be renewed for just a month. It'll be 3 months anyways.

    List is a joke...

What's stopping someone from France popping over the border to Spain, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Italy to travel to Ireland... although why they'd want to is another issue..

Nothing really but the fact that people can border hop doesn't mean you abandon a law. Otherwise everyone bordering holland would copy their drugs legislation but they don't.

Same for age of consent laws amongst others

I thought the Irish goon squad government were being legally compelled to accept the EU green card system .
How can they have €2000 travel fine and the green card system simultaneously?

Did I read somewhere it can only be renewed in 3 month blocks? That could be wrong of course, I remember it being mentioned on here.

    Also....

    From NY Times:

BRUSSELS — American tourists who have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19 will be able to visit the European Union over the summer, the head of the bloc’s executive body said in an interview with The New York Times on Sunday, more than a year after shutting down nonessential travel from most countries to limit the spread of the coronavirus.

The fast pace of vaccination in the United States, and advanced talks between authorities there and the European Union over how to make vaccine certificates acceptable as proof of immunity for visitors, will enable the European Commission, the executive branch of the European Union, to recommend a switch in policy that could see trans-Atlantic leisure travel restored.

They will find a way to keep the 2K fine and stick 2 fingers at the EU.

You'd have to think that. But the fine expires in mid June and seemingly we are not implementing travel cert until mid July so there's hopefully going to be month of a window there where travel will be just like last Summer. Essential travel only advisory but no fine in place.

Hopefully Von Der Leyen is as strong as this on the Green Cert too:

'Because one thing is clear, all 27 member states will accept, unconditionally, all those who are vaccinated with vaccines approved by the E.M.A.'

I'm not a legal eagle or anything but that would be my interpretation of it also. What would be the point of renewing it for one month from mid June to introduction of travel cert in what looks likely to be mid July?

Bit of a kick in the balls that a vaccinated American can come to Ireland and I would get fined €2,000 for attempting to leave the state.

Maybe they will keep the "do not travel" advisory in place like last summer until later in the summer that they keep mentioning, affecting people's travel insurance

Gun to my head prediction, I think the fine won't be renewed but the essential travel only advisory will remain. Which is the exact same as 2020 and wont really act as a deterrent this year. Also don't expect any media outlets to report that the fine has expired. That will be kept hush hush as long as possible.

I personally would be surprised if they didn't renew the fine, the language in the last few days against travel is quite strong. That could A. Because they know it won't be renewed but still want to strongly not advise or B. It will and it's pre-enforcing to make sure everyone knows.

Had this discussion with my wife over the weekend and we think it's the former. Just like last year. Talk strongly against it but no actual punishment. Fingers crossed anyways.

Have they actually issued any 2K fines at all?

Was he interrogated by a guard on way out?

They could keep the fine for non EU travel but having the green certificate and a fine will be contradictory and result in the state losing a high court challenge.

If inter-county travel is allowed then someone can travel to Belfast legally.

In Belfast that person is bound by local laws eg if non essential travel to Spain is allowed then they are allowed hop on a plane to Malaga.

In the same way someone can visit a cafe in amsterdam and legally smoke something that might be an issue at home.

Yes. My friend in work flew to Tenerife only last Thursday and got lumped with a 2k fine

Did they not have anything with them to try and show it was an essential journey? A dental appointment etc?

Wow. I don't have time for the aul racism to be honest
I've no problem with anyone visiting Ireland or coming to work here
Once they follow the covid guidelines on arrival

Except that's the uk so technically you are leaving the state and when they return if mhq still exists then they are legally obliged to enter it.

They cannot stop you crossing the border as per the GFA.
