    Well it's progress I mean.

    Still guesswork on ESB.

Drove into Enfield charger when passing last night, easy to get to (just off Enfield bypass) and all that I could see remaining is the stops to go on the ground and white lines, 6 stalls

Does anyone know why the tombstones are perpendicular to the parking spaces in the new SuC sites? Could it be to facilitate non-Tesla vehicles charging there in the future?

With the chargers mounted perpendicular, the overall footprint of the site gets smaller, and I'd say in a small hotel carpark space is at a premium.

Had the chargers been mounted sideways like in Birdhill etc... the parking spaces would have had to be a bit longer, or else a bit wider.

Looking at the grass & tree's behind, they probably couldn't go back any further into that, so the chargers had to be mounted on the parking surface.

Thats how I see it anyway!

That is the "traditional" install method and it allows a better "reversing into" spot in non Green Field sites.

Observations are correct re this particular install, it's tight enough (Model S being 5m) so their orientation makes sense

I think Sandyford would be very tight for the S/X. Probably would need to drive with the rear from the front of the shop. Looked at the plans again. 7m clearance from the parking spaces. 11m wide

If say, two of the spaces are occupied then there will be a bit of reversing from distance, but you'll get away with it if no other car there already.

From previous visits to SuC at Service Centres, the SC rarely use the SuC, preferring to use the 22kW AC units instead.

Charging availability on the M4/M6 route has been fairly good since the Xmas break as Im finding traffic volumes are down (thanks Omicron!). No doubt it will pick up in the next couple of weeks, by when hopefully Enfield & Raheen Woods will be up & running.

Tralee SuC, just the two but most welcome, charged at Birdhill earlier, only needed 15minutes to get 41kWh into her, Tralee stop was only 9 minutes and Granny charging at Hotel outside socket now

We need something on the M3 - anyone heard anything? Cavan area would be ideal

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,751 ✭✭✭✭ted1

Surely putting them in them the regular way, but in the center of bay would be better, as its allows for ports on the left or right.

Won't work with length of existing cables, as a model s owner you have to park damn near perfect for existing cable to reach, no lee way for poor parking, must be directly between the lines with your rear tyres touching the "stops" on the ground

No we dont. M3 is very well served by Kells HPC.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,234 ✭✭✭digiman

Is this some form of sarcasm? One HPC in Kells is pretty rubbish. Needs a hub, would like to see one near Donegal town as that is an entry point to the north west of Ireland for so many, basically once you get to Donegal fast charging options are very limited.

It's been covered before, Derry, Sligo, Athlone, Waterford and we're nearly there alongside selected small stations like in Tralee Hotel.

Belfast fuct as there is not enough power in the area to support and Tesla's lease is too short term for them to justify the required works

The thread is about the supercharger network. Kells just off the M3 has 3 chargers including 1 HPC.

Selfishly I'd love a SuC site on the M3 as I live 10 minutes from there. But I think Tesla would be better served putting one on the m9 at Gorey, the existing ones in the works at enfield, sandyford and galway, and maybe one near Sligo to cover north west.

A hub at the Maxol M3 Muluddart Services would probably be much better serving the M3 - highly accessible from the M50, useful for those coming to/from Cavan (and everywhere below) and could serves quite a large population area in north county dublin/south meath.

Kells has a few 50kW+ chargers including ones in the town

ESB have said Laghy outside Donegal town is earmarked for a second higher power charger.

Eniskillen will get a 50kW+ charger from ESB NI at some stage, maybe this year.

Not ideal, but there are fairly firm plans.

@Wassie: It's not easily accessible going northbound though.

According to the FB group, the owner of the M6 Services in Kilbeggan is very interested in hosting a SuC, and has filled in the Tesla partner application form.

Only issue is the site is 50km from Enfield.. but hopefully that wouldn't disqualify it as a potential site..

It's a big enough site, and it's only 500m from the M6 motorway.

Anyone know what sort of power would be going through those overhead lines? Enough to support 2-4 SuC's?

I think on the M9, the Paulstown Applegreen between Carlow & Kilkenny would be a great spot.

And I think on the M11, Gorey Servises would be the ideal spot. just 2-4 SuC's, next to the Ionity & eCars units,

Then up in Sligo, a half decent services on the N4, close to where that new dual carriageway went in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 19,496 ✭✭✭✭ELM327

Those are all great suggestions. Even 4 * V2 bays in those would be good. Especially Gorey as there's good redundancy with Ionity and ecars co-located.

M9 needs a supercharger for sure.

M6 services, is that the kinnegad plaza or the m6 kilmartin place where Ionity is?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 18,509 Mod ✭✭✭✭slave1

M6, roughly halfway between Kinnegad and Athlone Services (where Ionity is).

Kinnegad too close to Enfield, better off nearer Athlone somewhere, much more central

"Tesla owners in the UK have already been complaining that competition for Supercharger connectors is growing. Statistics published by the Tesla Owners United Kingdom show that there are around 85 Teslas per connector (Supercharger sites average around 10 connectors each), compared with 69 cars per connector globally, based on Tesla’s own figures."

Any idea what the ratio is here?

Raheen Woods had no idea when the Superchargers were going live when I spoke to them yesterday.

    Couple of interesting takeaways :

You also pay more “to reflect additional costs incurred to support charging a broad range of vehicles”, according to Tesla, although paying for a charging membership will lower the per-kWh price of electricity.Tesla owners still get it better, says the company, for example with "seamless integration" and preconditioning technology that better prepares the battery for charging.

The bulk of the trial Superchargers in Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands are on the premises of hotels in the Van der Valk chain, suggesting that Tesla is also trialling extended commercial tie-ins, possibly aimed at boosting revenues for both Tesla and the site hosts.

This might be one of the rare occasions when Ireland actually benefits from being last.....

Agreed, if SuC totally opened then my next EV may as well be a non-Tesla

Same. I love the look of the Ioniq 5. Supercharger network open for all.....car choices open for all.
