"Special education is due to partially reopen to thousands of children from February 11th following agreement with school staff unions.

The revised plan will see special schools open on Thursday of next week with 50 per cent student attendance.

Special classes in mainstream primary schools are due to reopen fully to all pupils from February 22nd.

However, the plan does not provide in-school teaching for thousands of children with additional needs in mainstream primary classes.

When are mainstream primary classes due to reopen?

Sources involved in discussions say they believe primary schools will be in a position to reopen from early March, possibly Monday, March 1st."

The plan includes at home face to face teaching for children with additional needs in a mainstream classroom. This is 20 hours delivered by a teacher or SNA this is separate to remote learning and to be delivered outside of school hours or at the weekend.

There is no word about schools reopening only speculation and I would think it would be the 1st or 8th of March.

Right, but it doesn't say that anywhere in the article does it?

It's a typical daily mail article where the dramatic bylines don't match the actual content, but there's nothing in it I'd disagree with.

Who issues fines to the Gardaí for not wearing masks? Have observed a few of them now not wearing masks while engaging with the public.

Gardai are not required to wear masks while on duty except where they are in an enclosed space and cannot maintain social distance

Possibly something to do with being identifiable.

Definitely putting smiles on all the doomsayers

I'd take anything printed by the Daily Mail with a pinch of salt.

Were they outside? If so, no problem.

That lot have really shown their true colours now.

They have completely dumped their masks and all the faux concerns/sympathy they pretended to have for economy/suicides/cancer screening delays/hospitality whatever bandwagon they thought would get their "anti-restrictions" bandwagon some momentum.

Now they are hoping everyone suffers. Classy.

Touching on the topic of economic situation, debt-to-GDP ratio stood at 68.8% at the end of 2019. It was argued that a real ratio was at a level of 106% to account for the multinationals running all their EU revenue through Ireland. Today that must be in a range of at least 120% as the debt-to-GDP in traditional sense is 76.6%. That is as bad as Spain (120%), and nearly as bad as the US (134%).

Above 90% MMT, quantitative easing or money printing as we know it is not going to induce growth. Austerity must come first, otherwise printing is pointless.

I think a number of people now realise it’s to late to “save” the economy unfortunately

    https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2021/02/07/restrictions-large-gatherings-likely-next-years/

So, here it is pasted on a google doc fyi ...
    https://docs.google.com/document/d/1TSXZMxjJ4IXnNm5YVDHctbPoFLjTZNxc6vai2LpETc4/edit?usp=sharing
Restrictions on large gatherings are likely “for the next few years”, the scientist leading the UK’s Covid symptom app study has warned.

Prof Tim Spector, from King’s College London, predicted that large sporting events and big weddings with international guests will remain on hold long after the second wave recedes.

The epidemiologist, who provides the most up-to-date rolling study on infection levels, said social distancing, mask-wearing and handwashing should continue into the future.

However, he called for the return of outdoor gatherings as soon as schools reopen, possibly as early as next month.

UK is on track for all adults (enough anyway for herd immunity) to be vaccinated by the summer/autumn ... so why why WHY ... can't we have crowds at premier league games next year or
    the year after ????

What is going on here ?

We should lock down like Australia and New Zealand! It worked for them beautifully... hold on a minute...their debt/GDPs are 34% and 48%, respectively... oh sh1t...we are way over 100%...

I understand why some people look selectively at the data, ignoring stuff we don't like is the first line of defense of our own realities...

Some people are very tone deaf to the issues facing families.

Yes, hoping for financial Armageddon will make their situation far better.

And we are approaching peak again.

So the cry is to bring on 'armageddon' and affect as many as possible as soon as possible.

    Not buying it.

And you guys think "financial armageddon" = easier to put food on the table?

This really is the upside down.

People, dont act fkn stupid. People are not showing their 'true colours'.

People are simply on the verge of giving up hope that we will ever return to some sort of rationality. People are rightly afraid that we may be stuck in some self perpetuating circle of hysteria.

And they assert that the sooner this house of cards comes down the better for us all in the long run.

When people have nothing to lose they are prepared to risk anything. Some people are getting to that point.

Ya it's turning into a battleground between pro and anti restrictions

Will get serious after vaccination, up to now it's been handbags

We'll do fukk all here but trouble will start elsewhere

More likely a number of them want their 2 day a week pub gargle fix, weekly trips to restaurants, and 4 city breaks + 1 major holiday a year.

Desperate times call for desperate measures.

A lot of people have campaigned against restrictions since last March. Not because they are dying to have a pint or get a 4 course Italian meal. Because they want to work. Need to work to provide for their families.

There is now half a million people out of work. That’s half a million struggling to pay rent, mortgages, loans, buy food etc. These people have been forgotten about by society. They are earning a maximum of 350 a week.

You’ll have to forgive them for not caring as much about a respiratory illness as you might. Easy to give money to charity when you have plenty. Look at the likes of Bono.

And the majority of pro restrictions posters that I have debated with have nearly all admitted that they are still earning full salary. That’s great for them.

But check out the harrowing scenes at your local food bank, if you know where it is. While it might sound, the economy collapsing would at least force us to open business again and some people can go back to work.

At least they’d have a fighting chance.
