They are trying to justify Construction closed as “less people milling around”

First time I've heard working on a building site described as milling around. Weird.

Their is an aspiration there though. It's the whole point.

Anyway, construction will be first to open again and they catch up like they did last year.

    Yes hopefully, sooner the better

    I don’t.
I just enjoy picking holes in the pro restrictions logic

I guess it's good that you've found a hobby while the restrictions are in place.

Also, the idea that NPHET are crunching the numbers and doing intense statistical modelling behind the scenes keeping us all safe in our beds... Sorry, but I just don’t think that’s the way it is.

You mean the Irish Epidemiological Modelling Advisory Group?

Take a screen shot each day and then use a calculator if you want it that much

Yeah, because that makes more sense than holding the minister for health to his promises.
Mr Donnelly also confirmed that the number of vaccinations being carried out per day in Ireland will be added to the Covid-19 Ireland data hub.

"It's important people know how the vaccination programme is going," he said.

Oh they understand your point. But they have no logical answer so resort once again to pedantic nonsense.

They are trying to justify Construction closed as “less people milling around”

But can’t answer why thousands of delivery drivers are going around the country dropping off completely non essential parcels.

It’s just sad that the one deemed non essential is going to impact the housing crisis.

Karen not getting her cookbook will probably survive.

I'm really not sure why anyone thinks construction should have been given a free pass. We went into strict level 5 lockdown. Building sites see lots of people working often in close proximity for long hours.

Delivery drivers work alone and stand in front of someone for seconds.

Edit: Those in construction that continued working:

Under the new restrictions announced on Wednesday, construction will be closed with effect from 6pm on Friday next January 8th except for the construction or development of:

    - essential health and related projects including those relevant to preventing, limiting, minimising or slowing the spread of Covid-19

    - A limited number of social housing projects, including voids, designated as essential sites by local authorities based on set criteria (projects due to be completed in the next six to eight weeks)

    - housing adaptation grants where the homeowner is agreeable to adaptions being undertaken in their home

    - repair, maintenance and construction of critical transport and utility infrastructure

    - education facilities sites designated as essential by Department of Education

    - supply and delivery of essential or emergency maintenance and repair services to businesses and places of residence (including electrical, gas, plumbing, glazing and roofing services) on an emergency call-out basis

    - certain large construction projects in the exporting/FDI sector based on set criteria.

My 93 year old nan died this morning. We spent the whole year isolating our selves to keep her safe. Barely saw her and when I did it was from another room, saw my son once and never got to see our newborn. My mam says its better than dying of covid alone in a hospital gasping for breath. I'm conflicted though, did she enjoy her last year? The older years are all about enjoying your family and the generations you have created.

I am sorry for your loss. I completely get where your coming from regarding her last year. You wanted to do right by her.

And factory and warehouse workers don’t work in proximity ?

Builders spent zero time standing in front of someone.

No public interaction yet shut off from work.

Given a “free pass” to earn a living... by Christ we have entered the twilight zone here.

    There’s no “think” about it

The figures are in the ministers statement

    0.6%

Corby you are spinning your wheels here. To some this 0.6% that you mention relates to ‘some’ amount of deaths that are sure to follow. That is enough for them, no matter what cost vs benefit factor is involved. Deaths from/with covid are the only denominator that they use in this equation.

”Where’s the revolution? Come on, people you’re letting me down!”

Builders do work in close proximity for long periods of time. Why would they have been giving the nod to carry on working when other industries where close contact occurs were shut down?

It's about keeping people safe by suppressing numbers in the short term till we open up again.i know you dont believe in that, and that's fine, but that's the way it is.

Ireland made headlines the world over for having the highest rate of covid spread last month. The Government acted accordingly.

What other industries that require physical attendance but do not involve interaction with the public have been closed down?

Govt should never act based on headlines.

Close factory’s and warehouses and we quickly run out of food, medical supplies, parts to keep essential services running etc etc. How is this news to some?

Yes because the vast majority of factories and warehouses are producing and delivering essential products?

Once again on this thread, it’s very easy to spot the people that are not financially impacted by Covid. Possibly not even too much social impact either.

And in a lot of cases, a lot of the same people are comfortable in life.

They don’t care about construction or the biggest housing crisis the country has ever seen.

They may even be benefiting from both crisis.

Or they don't want to see the hospitals overwhelmed and more people dead.

but you carry on, pretend it's a vendetta against brickies

They are about to be possibly seriously hit by it. Likely facing Into pay cuts etc again at some stage, for public servants and possibly welfare. Leo said pup likely to be extended until may or june. Of course they wont want to touch that option if avoidable. But the over caution we are talking about and experiencing , the easy way out for them politically, RIGHT NOW... is going to cause them yearsof far bigger headaches down the road. Total karma, im delighted. The idiots loving lockdown are going to get a serious dose of the medicine, that they are currently happy for others to take.

Its total comedy, we will have the last laugh. Wait until the clappy seals talk about how the politicians were elected to lead, should have known better. " Leo varadkar said everything was fine and dandy " lol! Laugh, out, fcuking loud!

I think if you could stop the builders entering shops outside their locality then it wouldn't have even been considered an issue I'd say. People just can't bring lunches with them it seems...

I really don't get this mentality. You've posted similar a few times. You are going to gloat when everyone (including yourself presumably) feels the pinch. It's like cutting off your nose to spite your face.

We’ve intentionally obliterated our own income through job losses and closure of the economy for pro longed periods of time.

We’ve borrowed billions to keep the lights on.

Sadly there is only going to be one way out of this. Tax, tax and cuts.

They can waffle on about growth, but it will be taxes and cuts needed to pay the bill.

Pay cuts for everyone but the politicians and the HSE/NPHET.

Are construction workers not part of “the public”?

Where do they go after they finish work?

How do they get to work?

Do they go into the local spar for a breakfast roll, or a coffee before starting, and again at lunchtime?

See all the possibilities to interact with others and spread the virus, or contract it and bring it home?

You could remove construction and ask the same questions of any person in the country

    Now you're getting it.

Precisely why a very significant part of the population (construction included) are being asked to restrict their movements.

What is worrying is that this sort of pathetic, upside-down logic drives the policy that dictates our lives.

Aye, we have gone down a bad path over the last year and I don't see us going back. People are so easily brainwashed and anyone who questions anything is berated or censored. We are living in 1984
