So the story of the vaccines being disposed is a myth.

He chose to vaccinate his own children first.

i always found it hard to believe the hospital couldn't have rang the local garda station or fire dept and told them to haul arse to the hospital to get vaccinated

It actually gets worse. We know from studies that certain groups are more susceptible to covid than others. The students on the standby list were actually on placement schemes in the hospital. Some of the students were from high risk groups.

In her letter, Prof Murphy said the hospital’s senior executive team knew the medical students were on standby to receive vaccines. The Health Service Executive had advised that the students be vaccinated alongside other health staff during their hospital placements.

At the time, the 39 students were on placement in obstetrics, with some working overnight on the labour ward.

TCD requested that the hospital vaccinate the students and was asked to supply information. New PPS numbers had to be obtained for the international students, many of them from high-risk black and Asian ethnic groups, according to Prof Murphy.

Have no problem with this as we are in position to flush vaccines down the toilet.

This type of lunacy is what allows nepotism to go unchallenged in Ireland.

Y I have no problem saying you would have to be an idiot of the highest order to think his children were the highest priority available.

This is what Prof. Murphy has said in relation to the nepotism on display here.
On January 8th, Prof Murphy saw young people queuing in the hospital for vaccination and assumed they were the medical students. At 8.32pm, she sent an email to the Coombe executive team thanking them for including the students.

On Sunday, January 10th, Prof O’Connell replied: “Just to clarify currently we are not in a position to vaccinate the students but will be happy to facilitate their vaccination should vaccine be available.”

The family members children were vaccinated that evening at 9.30pm when there were no further appropriate people available, the hospital told media last month. The students were later vaccinated at other Dublin hospitals.

“A great deal of effort went into preparing the documentation for medical students to be vaccinated and Dr O’Connell chose to vaccinate his children instead,” Prof Murphy said.

She said the vaccination of low-risk family members “discredits the profession”. Her daughter has been working for her as a receptionist during the pandemic, she said.

“Under no circumstances would I have brought my daughter across to be vaccinated as she is at very low risk from Covid-19.”

And the saddest/most scandalous thing is that Prof Murphy, according to the IT, is not allowed to speak more openly due to the threat of litigation. The involved individuals are simply concerned with covering themselves. And as always, it will all just blow over once we lose interest

Has been covered here a lot already but people were tripping over themselves to defend him - presenting the argument that the vaccines were destined for the bin otherwise.

No matter what the circumstances, it never sat right that the two adult children were vaccinated ahead of others.

If it is as being reported, his position is untenable.

Are we not all due to be vaccinated within the next 7 months anyway?

The more people vaccinated the better. Let's just get it done.

Shouldn't the medical students actually being trained there have got them, instead of him ringing up his family and friends.

Prof Murphy gave her daughter a job as her receptionist at the start of the pandemic.

    She can **** off aswell.

So if somebody who owns a shop hires their daughter to manage it, they are wrong? Lots of people hire their family members for their businesses. She presumably hired her daughter for her private practice. I certainly would not condemn her for this!

Unbelievable how posters will try to deflect. Well maybe not unbelievable if they have benefitted from nepotism themselves

This is it. Low grade nod and wink nepotism is ubiquitous in this country. So many people benefit from it that they can get quite uppity when it's challenged. The idea that this guys own kids just happened to be the best placed people to get the spare vaccines is laughable. This sh1t does not fly in well run countries.

Yeah, sure when you put it like that it doesn't matter whether we do 18 year olds or 80 year olds right now.
Let's call everyone in alphabetical order based.
It's not like we have a prioritisation plan based on who is most vulnerable to the disease & most essential to combating it.

So the story of the vaccines being disposed is a myth.

He chose to vaccinate his own children first.

The vaccines being disposed of, the idea that contacting people until 9.30pm was a feat of strength and impossible task to find people after that time, that his whole story is 100% legit and anyone who thinks otherwise is manufacturing outrage. All total wànk, as many of us highlighted in the beginning but dismissed by armchair experts who haven't worked a day on the ward :)

This thread has aged super well.

Have there been any further details on the other 14 vaccines that were given to family members. Apparently the recipients were elderly/vulnerable but given what has happened, transparency is needed on this. Who were they related to? O'Connell, senior managers?

The medical students should be treated as healthcare workers. They will be training and engaging with potential COVID patients

They should and will be. These 15 people didn't stop that.

Again, relax. It's being rolled out and the more people get the jab, the better.

    Oh ffs. Drama much?

If there's a few extra shots going begging, give them to people. There's not a person on this thread that wouldn't look after their own family in that scenario.

Are you one of his children? Genuinely asking!

If everybody had the attitude that you are proposing, then it would just a free-for-all. To hell with the most vulnerable people. Only people with connections should be served first 🀨🙄

I thought the issue was they weren't going begging. There was medical students ready and willing to take them but they were instead given to family.

It's absolute bull**** to say everyone would do the same thing in that position, most wouldn't.

The drama is unreal from you guys. Again, relax.

No, I don't know the family at all but suggesting that 16 people getting the jab in this manner is somehow having this great big knock on effect is laughable.

There's a few million to go and I would be more worried about how slow the whole process is than watching every single jab to see if I personally agree with the chosen person.

The small amount of jumping doesn't even add up to an an extra day wait for the vast majority of people and probable has no effect on those further down the list.

Had it actually delayed up or anyone you know by any real amount of time?

Outside Northern Europe and one or two other places
, Canada, Australia etc the world is entirely corrupt.

But you are right, it’s here too and public sector nepotism grinds my gears.

But not private where daddy's kids just happen to get high positions in the family business?

No drama. Just highlighting the absurdity of your previous post, which implied it didnt matter who gets vaccinated and when.

No extra shots were going begging.

    Another lame attempt at deflection.
Your posts are laughable in their transparent agenda.
    Stop defending corruption.
The master here put nepotism above proper rolllout of vaccines which has been prioritized to save lives.
Instead of having a proper standby list they took the corrupt option of deliberately ignoring legit candidates to favour family.

But sure all that matters to some is being able to continue to abuse their office to favour friends and family.

    Hahaha,are you serious?

Imagine giving your kids a job in your own business.

    Shocking altogether.

The problem is where does the does the corruption end? As a society, we have to attempt to suppress obvious corruption.

On a symbolic level, he has embarrassed the medical profession. Now people are less focused on their good work during the pandemic, and more focused on their corruption. It also denigrates the work of the vaccine programme

Also, lastly, if it was so trivial, why did the IT report that Prof Murphy could not speak more openly due to the risk of litigation?

And yet that's deemed fine and dandy regardless of if they can perform the tasks or earned the position.

    Double standards eh?

My lame attempts to deflect? I have no dog in this particular fight. It's nothing to do with me either way.

Mine and your planned date of vaccination has not changed. The sky is not falling.

If that changes and vulnerable people are being elbowed aside, then let's get outraged but we need some perspective here.

Vulnerable (on the basis of their ethnicity) medical students were elbowed aside
