Is Norma meant to outline her plans today? We should create a drinking game based on how often she reiterates to us that schools are perfectly safe :D and no matter what happens in the real world, all students return fulltime starting Monday.

    Schools are safe
    Partners in education
    Best practice
    Suite of measures
    It is my firm intention/belief

One penalty shot for all of the above :) be passed out before first minute is up!

Phased return of all students from 1st March as per Gavan Reilly

Just to get it clear in my mind.

Which group went back in-person last week ?
Was it Special Schools only ? On a 50% basis?

Who is going back on the 22nd ?

correct, special schools went back on a 50% basis last week, which from what I've heard meant the majority of staff returned fully as well.

As for the 22nd, I believe its special classes (asd units etc.) in mainstream, but who knows, we might all be back yet.

    Thanks.

So only if there is a complete Class or Unit in a mainstream School for the 22nd. (So far anyway). Both Primary and Secondary?

It is I guess, I assume it means all schools back with phased return within the schools as opposed to primary today and secondary tomorrow

They need to do this right, teachers are not going to double job with working in the school and doing remote learning on the side. Our schools internet wouldn't handle all of our staff teaching live classes in any case.

Sounds like they simple reworded "all schools back" to "phased full return".

Still no details however. Just an intention to have all schools back, on a phased basis. But as we all know devil is in the detail! So who is going back on the 1st? Will it be LC classes only? Jesus I wish they would just give some sort of information

Norma doesn't know that herself yet.

I see she also added its subject to agree of the education partners. Translates to "if it doesn't happen its that big bad teachers and their unions fault"!!! God I really hope there's an election soon and we never see her in politics again. Let her back to work in her old school. I'm sure they'll be delighted to have her back.

she'll never set foot in a school again

she'll never set foot in a school again

Going by her attitude I doubt she cares too much about what others think of her.

She is one of the better ministers in the current Government I think...

Not a teacher so have an unbiased view.

Norma Foley confirms March 1 as target date for start of phased school re-opening

    https://m.independent.ie/news/norma-foley-confirms-march-1-as-target-date-for-start-of-phased-school-re-opening-40097931.html

all kids back starting from 1 march parents can put their feet up and have lie ins again lol

no trip to coffee shop though as sitting in them for 5 minutes to drink your tea not deemed safe

    Why would you think that?
She has even been admonished by her own party for her cavalier solo run and hasnt made one proper decision.

God I hope senior infants are back on the 1st, we are doing our best to keep ours up-to-date with the work, but they missed so much last year and now 2 months already this year. They just zone out of the seesaw videos, its really hard to keep them engaged. I'd nearly rather senior infants was repeated at this stage. Let alone the social side of things they have missed.

All groups will move along. Be hard to justify a full year repeat for 5 weeks off site.

Think everyone wants students back, so long as it's safe and won't contribute to another spike in hospital admissions.

I guess the questions should be, if it is to be phased, what phased approach is best?

Half classes, week on week off? (My preference)

    Half classes, every second day?
Some classes in, some continue with home learning? How do you decide who comes in. There is an argument to be made for every class why it's the most important.

At any rate, it will only be phased until Easter. We'll all be back after that come hell or high water.

5 weeks? It’ll be 5 months over the junior and senior infants

Exam years perhaps and some of primary I’m guessing to the Easter Break

Kind of a noting term with next week gone and with paddy’s day in there as well

"wider issue of schools reopening to possibly be discussed thursday"......... you'd think that might have been a good idea to do before announcing schools returning in a week and a bit ffs, jesus christ

Emma O'Kelly was just on Radio 1. Priority is going to given to LC obviously and then children with SEN in mainstream followed by Infants as they can't engage in remote learning. So who knows when we'll all be back.

I think it’s fair to say TY students and I’m guessing 1st years are at home until after Easter
