Get your facts right. There was no strike during pandemic. hospitals are open and if needed you can still attend A&E through out the pandemic . there will be staff to look after you. none of the HCW are saying that hospitals should be closed and we will work from home as we are at risk of getting covid.

if you are referring to the nurses strike before covid. every other union had strikes organised at some stage in previous years. probably we should have different thread to debate the strike declared by different unions before covid and the right and wrong about it.

    I am a teacher.

What is your profession and job?

For those of you unfamiliar with the teaching forum, this poster spent the last lockdown openly admitting to doing nothing while the other teachers she is now fighting with told her to cop on and do her job, while we all swapped ideas and pointed to resources that might help the students we were busy teaching. I would take anything they have to say with a pinch of salt regarding teaching or education.

On a positive note the numbers looks good today, triple figures looks secure. I'm really hoping for good news regarding a return soon but the number of variables make it a difficult call. I'd actually go back myself in the morning, regardless of risk, at this stage but I suppose keeping community transmission is also important to consider. Really hit home when I was talking to a kid whos loved one had been hospitalized, throwing their life into choas. It's fine to say get kids back but we need to make sure it's sustainable.

I'm going to spend the rest of the evening planning a little midterm surprise for the kids for the end of the week, might cheer them (and me) up!

Not one student will die if they miss a few days of school, but how many sick people did without a scan missing vital diagnosis or operations due to the nurses strike 2 years ago. I have no skin in the game either way but the venom given to teachers in this country is insane and I have been in quite a few countries.

A job is a job, yes there are good and bad eggs in every profession but it seems that teachers as a group are subjected to the inverse florence nighting-gale effect. One bad experience with a teacher sours you to all of them.

I pray to every God and none that they get back to school asap, but I won't loose any sleep if they don't. I am my kids primary educator, not the teacher.

How is that relevant to anything here?

What is your own job and what specifically do you do?
are you not going to tell us, that's very vague, i believe deliberately so
I'll repeat ... How is that relevant to anything here? What is your own job and what specifically do you do?

I believe you won't answer these questions as you are only interested in shifting the focus on to me personally and away from the points I am making.

    That won't work I'm afraid.

Again, the claim that "the vast majority of people here both teachers and no teachers have disagreed with you" is your own personal opinion. Unless you can reply to this post with some proof of that claim it is simply biased opinion and absolutely nothing more.

Btw, is this the way you teach children about research and data?

On second thought I'm only after seeing this - teachinggal123 don't post in this thread again, enough is enough

So, let me get this straight.

We are ignoring NPHET advice and the best practice of most European countries in opening schools. And taking our public health advice from an anonymous Facebook group instead.

    Right.

People find the facts there about the proliferation of cases in schools that were being covered up

Don't know why you are referring to deliveroo drivers . are you a deliveroo driver? oh sorry you have no intention to tell us what is your job and ignoring questions about your profession.

I have huge respect for deliveroo drivers. they are still out there to deliver when you order from the comfort of your home. they are at risk of getting covid and more lately being attacked on streets but still out doing a job.

So will LC be back in on the 1st of March and primary back the 8th or will be all be back together?

I am hoping I will only have one more Monday and Tuesday of virtual teaching now...but if its 2 I'll manage that. But I hope that's it after that.

Are we looking at some on-site teaching and the remainder remotely if years are gradually returning?

For secondary I would assume so. I'd say primary will be all back in one go.

It’s actually easier to manage a staggered return at primary than secondary

I would agree. One teacher, one class.

The last leak said as much too
Sounds like it will be March either way

What a joke, so they'll all be back just in time for the Easter holidays by the looks of it.

So unless they bring it forward it will actually be April then, two whole months away.

Don't say that. I'm having serious covid fatigue this week. Still holding out hope for 1st of March return for primary. Will deal with it when we know exactly what is happening which I assume won't be until next week now as that's when the announcement over whats happening next is coming.

I love my 10 year old son too. I will send him back when it’s safe for schools to reopen .
A parents petition isn’t going to make them safer

That petition is ridiculous and obviously ignores the importance of reopening slowly and cautiously, and it doesn't even demand any extra safety mitigation measures! Seems very narrow in vision. It's hypocritical in that it wonders who the unions have spoken to for advice, when NF clearly didn't consult the experts.

Can't see us sending the kids back if they don't change the definition of a close contact either.

    Calculated grades??

Can LC teachers explain how they can be insulated from influence by parents and students over the next 4 months if they will have to come up with some kind of grade? And visa-versa, how can a student be insulated from a vindictive teacher/principal etc?

It will be a nightmare in small communities. We had three in my LC class being taught by parents, nevermond parents friends! Every class test when you go back could be an issue

Not a hint of a plan from the government in reopening schools

Our kids teachers have told us they've been told 5th March before they expect to hear what's next.

    Are these dates public knowledge?

No that’s pure speculation based on the date the restrictions end
The govt today announced that a new “roadmap” will be announced in two weeks
Expect it all to be looked a few days ahead
