You can say whatever you want. You can believe Facebook groups over NPHET and a host of International Health Departments if you want.

But your claim that "most teachers workload has doubled" cannot be supported. It is your personal opinion and nothing more.

    And I don't believe you.

Thats fine. You support an opinion which is personal and you have no proof of that the vast majority of people here both teachers and no teachers have disagreed with you. So be it

I still dont see why people should be ashamed, they are working hard and HCW to teachers job are imcomparable. Having worked both I can say that.

I could cry! Have two children in mainstream with SNA and set support teachers and sna are fantastic. Got an email from the two schools today saying the dept want me to apply for a grant to get teacher/sna to come to the house for 5 hours a week from the 11th. Hours have to be outside school hours and can include weekends/easter holidays. And it's only if the teacher/sna agrees. I have to ensure they are vetted and check their references and any liability will be on me. This is instead of them going back to school. Dept fooking over the children again and setting parents against teachers/sna again. What the hell???

Ok let's go. But that will require mature, informed and supported replies from you.

Oh, and also no personal insults towards me.

Where do you want to start? How about the claim that most teachers workload has doubled?

Hello teachinggal, first fact check - are you a teacher or someone using this username to troll this thread by any chance?

Again, the claim that "the vast majority of people here both teachers and no teachers have disagreed with you" is your own personal opinion. Unless you can reply to this post with some proof of that claim it is simply biased opinion and absolutely nothing more.

Btw, is this the way you teach children about research and data?

    A general observation:

Ask yourself are you here to discuss how / when schools can reopen safely or are you here to vent your frustration at the current situation by ****ting on a profession you've never been part of? (Or indeed a profession you are part of, but have no respect for many (any?) others in that profession.)

If it's the latter, maybe take a minute and have a think about your negative attitude to schools and teachers. What prompts it? Does it serve you? Will you send your kids back to school anyway?

Of course you will. So quit with the incessant, largely unfounded, critique. Loads of us are doing our jobs to the very best of our ability and we are sick of being your punchbag.

I will give you the choice of debating anything you wish.

Again, please no personal insults or childish replies.

    Very smart in judging workload.

Pray that you don't need an admission in a hospital .you might end up in trolley spending ages to be seen by a doctor/nurse. you will then know yourself what i meant by workload.

so you have doubled your workload and are at 50% productivity

that does seem about right for the health service

    Hi there

As far as schools know, these support hours will be in place even if schools reopen. It's not a grant, the SNA or support teacher involved will be paid per hour. (Teacher is paid approx €39 per hour before tax and SNA is paid approx €18) You don't have to organise payment, you just need to fill out a form saying when the hours were worked. All registered teachers and SNAs are already vetted. If you have any questions, just get on to your school, they should be able to help you.

As these hours are supposed to happen in the child's home, not all teachers/SNAs will be willing to do this. It's very different to teaching in the neutral ground of the school for both parties.

ETA: Yes you are 100% right about the Department.

How is that relevant to anything here?

are you not going to tell us, that's very vague, i believe deliberately so

Can vouge for what has been said. My sister is working till 6pm everyday. It obviously depends but you can't really **** off working from home especially if it's something you care about. Am sure some teachers are half assing it but majority I'd imagine workload has increased. Even the psychological toll of adapting to the new digital learning environment is taxing

I'll repeat ... How is that relevant to anything here? What is your own job and what specifically do you do?

I believe you won't answer these questions as you are only interested in shifting the focus on to me personally and away from the points I am making.

    That won't work I'm afraid.

We have seen with the creches how much easier this strain spreads jumping from 5% positivity rate in Sep-Dec to 12.5% in Jan.

This is misleading. The overall positivity rate for all age groups was around 5% in sept-december. The overall positivity rate in January was up over 20% at times.

This is nothing to do with strain spreading more in kids, it is due to the HUGE infection rate in the general population in January.

First off I'd like to apologise if this comes off as a rant. Teachinggal I'm really beginning to wonder if you are a teacher at all at this stage! You were all talk last year about how little you did and why you couldn't do more. Now you are allegedly working and you are still taking swipes at people.

I for one am fed up of this situation we are in. I want to go back to work in the actual school building. I'm fed up of having school books lying around my kitchen, I'm fed up of trying to manage my own children's education while trying to meet the needs of 25 others virtually, I'm fed up of sitting on the sofa at night correcting work that is submitted in the evenings, I'm fed up sitting at the laptop preparing resources nightly for the next day.

You are here telling people that their work load hasn't doubled. What would you know about jt? When Im in school I don't have to translate Irish for parents to explain to their child, I don't have to explain Maths to parents so they can again help their child. I don't have to take time out of my weekend to go into school to prepare workpacks for children and drop them to their houses. And I have no problem doing this by the way but all these things take time.

I know both my kids and parents are fed up of this situation too. I am in daily contact with my kids on zoom, teaching them and available fully 5 days a week on seesaw to help them out if needed. We are all fed up and patience is starting to wear thin. Get behind your colleagues instead of constantly trying to bring them down.

Its not a secret a that staff shortages are affecting quality of care. In spite of all the recruitment drive HSE is not able to recruit enough doctors or nurses. I would be grateful to all healthcare staff who are working long hours and extra hours beyond their contracted hours to keep the hospital open and running. sorry we can't be more productive. may you get a chance soon to judge our productivity on the floor. you can give us an honest opinion based on your experience.

just curious what profession you are? if you don't mind to share.

Except when nurses strike and add 100,000's of days to the waiting list or PHD's threaten to strike during the middle of a pandemic to get more pay......

i'm trying to think what point you are making

teachers should be ashamed of themselves because some nobody posted some made up nonsense

many are busting there hoops minding their own kids while trying to school everyone elses aswell

    yet they should be ashamed?

thats a disgraceful thing to say

we have all seen it first hand, some hard workers in there carrying the can and plenty of wasters

    much like any profession

if they can't recruit, pay more, get rid of the wasters

    problem solved

I'm definitely not ashamed of the work I'm doing. I think some people like to deflect blame on to others when they are ashamed themselves!

Get your facts right. There was no strike during pandemic. hospitals are open and if needed you can still attend A&E through out the pandemic . there will be staff to look after you. none of the HCW are saying that hospitals should be closed and we will work from home as we are at risk of getting covid.

if you are referring to the nurses strike before covid. every other union had strikes organised at some stage in previous years. probably we should have different thread to debate the strike declared by different unions before covid and the right and wrong about it.

Many of the teachers here should be deeply, deeply ashamed of themselves (and the teaching unions and profession in general) reading this.

As you are so keen on debating facts I'm sure you can back up this statement with facts and not opinions.
