Don't worry I will! My parents paid for my education and I'm not going to let them down, I have 2 older sisters to compete against :D

My sil is a secondary teacher. Last year she said all kinds of negative things about predictive grades. But her daughter was in LC last year and got on brilliantly and sil then said she had been hasty in her attitude to predictive grades and that actually, as a system, it worked. Any secondary teachers here with kids in LC this year or last. Would love to know what they think.

Did your niece get what she wanted in college if she applied? I'm going to guess that she did and your sister in law might have had a very different opinion if she didn't.

She would indeed. My niece actually chose a very specific career path. She was always going to get more points than she needed for it under any system. But your point is valid of course.
Edit sorry don't know how I added the thumbs down. Didn't mean to.
2nd edit, based on what she got though, if medicine requires the highest points, she could have done medicine.

I really hope it does honestly. I will say I haven't worked as hard as I am if I was in a school setting, Who has with no real routine? But I've kept up with my assignments and I'm doing them to the best I can to get high marks in them. (Rewrote my King Lear essay 3 times before I sent it in lol)

Seems to be working out for now, I got 93/100 in my recent History essay

Also wanted to mention, my health mentally in the last week has drastically improved, took a lovely walk today in the snow as it fell tonight here in Dublin, sometimes it's ok to just forget about the world and go to your happy place (mine being walking in falling snow like tonight) :) It made me feel super happy I am here today, and made me feel more motivated inside.

Here's a fun little image I got tonight to keep spirits up! :D

I think it's going a bit far questioning the character and integrity of the leaving cert year. They're basically going to miss one year in school of a two year course. If they take the exam they're at a huge disadvantage compared to last year's class. The level of online lessons varies hugely between schools, and those from less privileged schools are smart enough to realize that their father's won't have friends in the media to get results changed like the fee paying schools did last year.

Questioning their character and integrity? How did you manage to pick that up from what I said? I said every year ever would make the same call, it’s human nature.

    She really has ZERO shame.

I know for a fact that during negotiwhen it was brought up that she said it wasn't an option and that she wouldn't bring it to the relevant people. Not suddenly when the rug has been pulled from underneath her and it looks like she might be on slippery political ground, suddenly the minister thinks she should suggest it. ZERO SHAME.

Didn’t she tell the Dáil it wasn’t happening?

Wednesday she reiterated it again in the Dail/DCC or wherever they sit these days.

    widely reported yesterday evening as
    Special Schools/Classes,
    Leaving Cert,
    Full primary in one go,
    Rest of secondary.

What a timeline for that actually looks like is anyones guess.

Thanks....I guess it's logical. They could break up primary into half, the younger ones in first?

To save anyone else having to read the last 6 pages of mainly teacher bashing scutter I’ll save ye the hassle.
Teachers need to don the green jersey, work their holidays and go on the PUP , teach online and in classroom at the same time and not be allowed to get vaccinated In line with other essential workers .
    Think that covers it

Shock horror, during negotiations she kept a card up her sleeve. Article says she made enquiries in December about bumping teaching.. Hardly sudden

It actually really should be youngest to oldest though I get the LC need. But ECCE, junior and senior infants in particular really cannot work independently at all and those ages are causing the worst problems for parents. Then the rest of primary. Then the LCs and start into secondary schools.

Having both primary and secondary school partially open would mean all staff at all levels all on the move without full groups in

But I do get why they want the LC back

Well going by the guides for Special Needs we could end up with a lot of children back, more than just the children with an additional educational need.

But HOW can you make a classroom safe for 30 adults/LCs with a teacher? Unless we're at least a month or 6 weeks from this?

Reading between the lines now on what they are saying on timelines it will be after mid term for all of it except maybe special schools /classes at primary level
I could be wrong though as History Queen said it has been hinted in TUI circles about LC return being imminent

Honestly I think they might also leave 5th and 6th out for longer than thr likes of JI/SI. Know my 6th need minimal inout from home. Great group who just get on with it.

Teachers will have to be vaccinated in able to make the environment safe. That's the bottom line. Children are less susceptible to the virus so they will be fine once distance is kept and masks are worn.

For a government who ran with the whole schools are our priority mantra putting teachers 11th on a list of priorities for vaccination was pretty stupid.

They didn't view teachers, SNA's school bus drivers etc.. as essential workers but yet made schools remaining open an essential priority. How thick can you get.

It feels to me like NF and the Government will be basically saying to teachers which do you want - go back after the mid term with LC classes, even with demands for safety not being looked at all and in that case, no predictive grades or don't go back until all safety issues are looked at but then accept predictive grades. Not worded like that but that being more or less it. And of course special needs schools and pupils back too.

Better PPE we need goggles not visors and N95 masks or FFP

    CO2 monitors
    Better ventiltion
    Air purifiers for classrooms
Half in half out for better sding
    Hire bulidings of necessary

    to start
