Would anyone be interested in an F1 predictions league? Like the boards premier league one in the soccer forum.

Each poster predicts pole, 1st, 2nd, 3rd and last. Guess right and get points

    1pt for guessing pole
    1pt for guessing 3rd
    3pts for guessing 2nd
    5pts for guessing 1st
3pts for guessing last finisher, so excludes DNF

Will open a new thread and keep everything there if there's enough interest. Any edited posts after Q1 starts won't be counted. Would need 10+ posters to even bother starting I think. Can change up the rules if there are more suggestions,. Obviously Hamilton would be first on everyone's list for most weekends hence me adding decent points for last!

Really? I’ve never been to one. I remember the new being controversy when Hamilton didn’t go to one in London for me time. Sounds good I suppose. Liberty media will probably be on the ball with that kind of thing.

I remember seeing a Renault on display at a car exhibition in Newcastle a few years ago. I don’t think anyone drove it but maybe someone did give it a spin over the weekend. I’d say it’s a great way to get children interested alright. Very interactive and short.
I seen a Jaguar on display at Goffs. That's going back a bit

Sounds good I suppose. Liberty media will probably be on the ball with that kind of thing.

The one in Dublin was very good. Unfortunatly it never happened again. I would say if they tried again there would be less of a crowd because it's not free to view anymore and has lost a lot of fans. The screaming V8s were amazing do and Dublin was shuck with noise and a great crowd there that day too.

The standout from dublin event was the noise.
I was right up at one of the fences where they did donuts at the end of the run and the noise being only a few metres from the cars was nuts.
Its not your ears that takes in that kind of noise - you feel it more than hear it.

Also, the manhole covers were tarred over for the event but F1 car ripped up the thin layer of tar the first time the tyre hit it.

I’m sure you could point out all the problems with that yourself. But to name a few: who would pay the prize money? F1 team budgets are like Disney dollars. The money they get is mostly sponsorship and the FIA championship payments. If Mercedes don’t need the money for sprint races, then why bother with sprint race?

If there’s a sprint race, it should have champs points or help determine the starting grid for the race. Otherwise it’s just an exhibition.

Again, take it from the yearly prize money.

Again, take it from the yearly prize money.

Sure. It represents change so you know what most old school f1 fans will make of the idea.

Random fact, Daniel and Landos race numbers would have indicated that McLaren came second in last year's constructors championship under the previous car numbering system.

A system i much preferred. First time since 2014 that 2 teams have had consecutive numbers for their drivers? Ericsson 9, Kobayashi 10?

    Stroll & Massa were 18 & 19 in 2017.

Yer man William Storey is constantly shytin-on about getting Rich Energy back into F1 and a “Big Announcement” coming soon. I know he’s only doing it to get the brand name back out there on social media. And I know I’m spreading his news on social media right now. But I also want to add that there is no announcement coming. He’s getting his association with F1 by just creating the speculation.

He’s a complete charlatan and a conman. It’s similar to when Trump was pushed about his healthcare plan, he would say it’s all ready and will be announced in the next couple of week, which went on for about 5 years without ever actually announcing what the plan was. There was no plan but it created the impression that there was an advanced plan.

Likewise Storey is just creating the idea that he’s in talks with teams or Liberty or race tracks. Nobody would bother with him after the Haas situation but he’s getting what he wants by talking about a big announcement being just weeks away. He’s a bad egg.

Wasn't rich energy shown up as a complete ponzi scheme?

    He has some neck.
Still talking about f1 and him shown to be a complete clown.
Did they ever pay whyte bikes following the court case?

Rich energy is in liquidation, anyone giving them a dime is an idiot. He should team up with Trevor Milton and promise a hydrogen F1 engine

Yeah pretty much. It did have some products for sale but that wasn’t the main focus of the business. It was about getting investment and profile.

They were selling vodka and Rich Energy in some fancy places like casinos, but they didn’t try to sell it in normal shops like Rev Bull or Monster. I think it’s fair to say that Storey would be more comfortable spending other people’s money than his own.

They had the 98 Williams parked outside one of the Select garages in Tralee at some stage in early 99. It was really odd, there was nothing announced, it was just up on a plinth parked up at the corner of the garage with a guy looking after it. There was no engine in it apparently. The only thing I can think is that it was a Winfield promo

These are the aero penalties/rewards based on where teams finished in last year’s championship:

    2021 ATR Testing Limits (1 January-30 June)

    1. Mercedes: 90%
    2. Red Bull: 92.5%
    3. McLaren: 95%
    4. Aston Martin: 97.5%
    5. Alpine: 100%
    6. Ferrari: 102.5%
    7. AlphaTauri: 105%
    8. Alfa Romeo: 107.5%
    9. Haas: 110%
    10. Williams: 112.5%

    9. Haas: 110%
    10. Williams: 112.5%

How do they work that out and is the higher per percentage worse? I assume it is. If so how come its worse for the smaller teams than the bigger ones?

Alpine get 100% of the allowed wind tunnel time and simulations. Mercedes get capped at 90% of that allowance. Williams get 112.5% of the alpine allowance.

So Williams get an additional 12.5% compared to Alpine because they finished last. It’s to help Williams catch up because they came last

Windtunnel Limit for top six teams (1 January-30 June)

Mercedes: 864 runs/216 wind on hours
Red Bull: 888 runs/222 wind on hours
McLaren: 912 runs/228 wind on hours
Aston Martin: 936 runs/234 wind on hours
Alpine: 960 runs/240 wind on hours
Ferrari: 984 runs/246 wind on hours

The following year, the difference will be even more dramatic.
2022-25 ATR Testing Limits based on previous year's championship

    1st place: 70%
    2nd place: 75%
    3rd place: 80%
    4th place: 85%
    5th place: 90%
    6th place: 95%
    7th place: 100%
    8th place: 105%
    9th place: 110%
    10th place: 115%

They really should do it based on something more representative like percentage difference in world championship points or average qualifying time over the season. There's a bigger gap in wind tunnel time between some very closely matched midfield teams than there is for the massive gulf in performance between Merc and Red Bull, or between Red Bull and McLaren.

    Its a good start anyway.

That’s probably the only ‘surprise’ about it. That in itself will fuel the idea that he’s out to get #8 and ride off into the sunset once he’s top of all the competitive records. Also gives him and easy out ahead of new regulations and (hopefully) a tightening of the field spread.

Lewis does the season, and is replaced by Russel next time around. Kinda suprising. a 1 year deal doesn't seem like anyone did well at the table.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,553 ✭✭✭Cork Trucker

Merc to field an all new lineup in 2022 then with Russell as team leader?

Lewis to break 100+ wins, go clear with all time championship wins and ride off into the sunset you'd imagine is the thinking here, Russell then to replace him and who knows what the story with bottas will be.

exactly what I was going to say

2022 line up will be interesting

Depending on Red Bull outcome this season, it could quite possibly be Max.
