    Yes, I was using primevideo.com. That's it.

Nice one lads! I'll try the other site. Dunno if my smart TV will be able to do that though

I thought that the prime video app is linked to primevideo.com and the Firestick linked to prime UK. It might be as simple as using the app on the Firestick rather than the homepage on the Firestick itself?

Sadly it's a Samsung TV rather than a firestick but maybe there is a different app or maybe now I've update it it'll work.

Sorted, thanks guys! Might reconsider that cancelation - what with the VAT free shopping under €22!

Except that orders under €22 are now free of UK and Irish VAT (until July anyway) - So a 20% discount if you need anything under that price .

    Why until July?

EU rules on VAT changing 1st JULy.
No longer any exemption on import VAT . It will be payable on all imports.

Does anything change for items over 22 quid? On amazon I noticed on some items, only Irish vat is paid on others UK and Irish VAT is paid.

Some of the third party sellers are not charging correctly.
But All goods sold by Amazon and fulfilled by Amazon seem to be fine.
No UK VAt and Irish VAT added as "import deposit".
There could be import duty on orders over €150 - but most (if not all) computer related stuff should be duty free.

    Good summary here - https://www.moneyguideireland.com/buying-from-amazon-uk-after-brexit.html

I thought the deal meant no import duty on goods, no?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,844 ✭✭✭Ogham

The deal only applies o goods produced in the UK or EU.
Sales of goods produced in other countries are not covered - and duty may be charged on some categories of goods.

You aren't the first to state that yet I haven't seen it in print anywhere?

Thanks for that. So if they are not made in UK but sold in UK they are duty free. I wonder how we can tell if they are not made in UK?

No , if they are made outside the UK then duty might apply

So, has anyone got "Buying options (post Brexit)"?

Presumably in relation to "PC Building and Upgrading"?

WTF is this 9 pages of waffle?

  • Registered Users Posts: 117 ✭✭brcwatters

Young fella thought he was laughing last night when he built himself a PC on pcspecialist.ie, but then realised they're actually in the UK so presumably there would be customs involved. Have emailed them but their T&Cs do say there probably will be customs but they can't say how much. Is there a similar site here which is trustworthy? Or in Europe?

I'm 95% sure komplett.ie is Irish based. Not sure where their PC configurator stuff comes from but worst case scenario should come from the Netherlands, where I think their new base is (used to be Norway before they were bought by ParaDigit iirc)

If on the PCSpecialist .ie or .co.uk very top of the website is chosen Ireland and Euro, then a total price should be showing up with an Irish 21% (after March will be back to 23%). In this case customs shouldn't apply tariffs.
Some Examples of Items that can be imported to the EU with 0% Duty:

Here are some examples of goods from the UK that we understand can be imported duty-free into Ireland if the country of origin is not the UK.
    • Computers & Computer Parts
    • Computer Monitors
    • Calculators
    • Printers/Copiers/Faxes
    • Printer Inks & Accessories
    • Phones (Mobile/Non Mobile)
    • Laptops
    • Digital Cameras
    • Storage Drives
    • Games-Consoles
    https://www.moneyguideireland.com/irish-customs-duty-on-uk-online-purchases.html
You can search this list yourself to find out the possible duty rates on other products. (It’s slightly complicated and long-winded to find exactly the items what you want.)

Please correct me if I'm wrong or someone thinks differently, as I'm also thinking of ordering from them within a few months.

    Also:
The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission is also warning consumers to be aware of changes to consumer rights when the UK leaves the EU.

Spokesperson Doireann Sweeney explained that consumers' existing EU rights would no longer automatically apply when buying from a UK website post Brexit.

She said it was important to check where the trader is located. "EU consumer protection law gives Irish consumers the right to change their mind after they receive their purchases and other strong protections when buying online.

"At this point in time, these rights are also reflected in UK law. However, from January, consumers may find it difficult to enforce these rights in disputes with UK retailers."

Hey lads, I find myself suddenly in the market for an Asus ROG Z490-E and an i7-10700k

Scan.co.uk and Overclockers.co.uk have them in stock but have temporarily suspended shipping to Ireland. Amazon.co.uk doesn't seem to have stock, or only via 3rd party suppliers. Amazon.de has stock, but expected delivery more towards the end of the month. And of course, I want it now :D

Any other suggestions? Your help will be much appreciated.

You can still use addresspal - but no idea if you will get charged taxes.

You could try Geizhals.eu and use a virtual address. Galaxus.de have both.
I prefer mailboxde.com but mygermany or parcl are also options.
€657 for both delivered within Germany and roughly €25 to Ireland.

overclockers are still shipping to ireland i think? they shipped my 5900x yesterday, and they still list ireland on their webpage shipping as they are irish vat registered. they do say they have stopped shipping to rest of europe though

  • Registered Users Posts: 173 ✭✭TheRover

What about the other usual shops? Box, CCL Online, Aria, awd-it ... ?

The only one I've seen with a clear message on the topic was indeed Scan

  • Registered Users Posts: 64,835 ✭✭✭✭unkel

Overclockers are very expensive (€100 more than Amazon.co.uk) and problem with all UK suppliers that ship here and are paying Irish VAT is that you're also liable for import duties once the value goes over €150. Amazon.co.uk will pay this for you as you already agreed a figure with them. But the others won't.

Currently looking at a friend in NL buying from Amazon.nl and then sending it on to me. Seems the cheapest option and quickest too. Have tried some of the options from Geizhals too and also Amazon.de directly

  • Registered Users Posts: 64,835 ✭✭✭✭unkel

€638, in stock and including free delivery tomorrow to NL. By far the cheapest and quickest option I could find. Will cost an additional €23 to get it shipped (insured) from NL to Ireland.

For anyone interested, this was from megekko.nl, a webshop with a good reputation

I've a 5900x pre-ordered with Overclockers; any chance you'd confirm if you had to pay any customs duties or had any other issues with the delivery?

We'll find out soon if computer parts really are exempt if mossym gets nailed for import charges but if he does, is there any avenue to dispute taxes imposed or do you just have to suck it up?
