I hope you're right, but when aa UN economist and the Speaker of the House of Commons float climate lockdowns it begins to become a possibility.

And I still maintain that there is no evidence from the past 8 months in Ireland that suggests life will go back to normal and people's freedoms will be returned to them. Indeed, history has shown that temporary measures have a habit of becoming permanent.

It’s a bit unfair if they don’t stay in lockdown to protect all those who will die of that other dangerous transmissible illness which is influenza

Yes, that's true. I don't know why I wrote 2022. I fear it could be permanent. Or a level 3 type situation forever. And I don't think I'm being hysterical. I just can't see Tony Holohan and NPHET exiting stage left when COVID-19 is no longer an issue.

Tony has already stated the vaccine will “compliment” current measures

Going to be a long decade

I suspect the poster in question has no meaningful life in the normal sense if his/her life isn't greatly impacted by level 5 cos even my most anti social acquaintances are giving out.

True. They either shout 'conspiracy theory' or resort to an ad hominem. I something I don't understand.

I can see them getting worse as things get better.... that's my genuine fear!

Yes, as has the Head of WHO. And yet it is to be hysterical to imagine a state of perpetual lockdown.

Absolutely. They're already beginning to get worse with their fear graphs.

You should have reported the pub if thought they we’re breaching the guidelines.

    Why ?
What harm were they doing ?
Doing more good than harm if you ask me

Talks of keeping inter-county travel only until a few days before Christmas, and 3 households could meet at Christmas.

How many people will abide by that
    Very few I would imagine

Not I anyway. I've been outside of my county once since March, I intend to go next week to another county.

USC springs to mind as a temporary measure

    https://www.dailysabah.com/turkey/masks-may-be-history-soon-with-vaccine-development-health-minister-koca-says/news

"Protective masks that adorn the faces of millions may be history soon, Health Minister Fahrettin Koca says. The minister who helms the country’s efforts to contain the coronavirus outbreak on Friday tried to instill hope in a public weary of months of restrictions and measures. “We yearn for the days we will breathe freely again. Masks will not be in our lives soon. There are great developments in vaccine work. Let’s wait for the results,” he tweeted. In the meantime, he called on the public to properly wear masks everywhere except at home and thanked the nation “for patience.”"

This is kind of what I'm getting at when I talk of their being no evidence to suggest that life will return to normal in Ireland. Look at what the Turkish Health Minister said re masks and how he thanked the nation for being patient. Contrast that with the doom and gloom of NPHET, RTÉ, and the print media. Zero positivity, constant negativity, no acknowledgment that people have made tremendous sacrifices, no talk of masks soon being a thing of the past and of life getting back to normal. Instead they come out with fear charts, introduce fines, ban people from drinking outside, threaten people, talk down to people, treat people like children.

Exactly . You would almost think they are enjoying it and then varadkar comes out with this last night.
I mean we are not even out of this bloody lockdown and he is talking about the next one. The man is a menace.

I agree, but my fear is that they will continue with the lockdowns even after the population has been vaccinated. Nothing suggests to me that they won't.

I will bet my left testicle they won’t if the vaccine works. I was listening to MM being interviewed and he was quite positive about the vaccine and can’t wait until he can go back to packed stadiums to watch matches that he misses. I actually believe him. Our leaders are just like you and me they want normality too.

There is no doubt in my mind that they are enjoying the control and power they have over people's lives. That's based on the evidence of the past eight months.

The difference in tone between the Turkish Minister for Health with his positive message of hope and the non-stop negativity and doom and gloom from his counterparts in Ireland is astonishing.

I hope you're right. I really do. But when Anthony starts talking about the vaccine complementing the current measures then it's rather worrying. And the head of WHO said the same thing.

And another comprehension fail from Gingey.

The thread always being amusing means its an easy option to select. Unlike some regulars there are other threads on boards and heck even other websites and offline activities. Some may base their entire existence in this thread but that wouldn't be good for mental health to be that addicted to conspiracy.

I’d rather live in Ireland then turkey and I think most people would.

But would you rather positivity, hope, and an acknowledgment of the sacrifices people have made, or what we have in Ireland, i.e. 24/7 negativity, non-stop hysteria etc?
