Gym and non essential shops open, finally some sort of plan around the lockdown rather than the previous one size fits all.
But visiting houses, boozers or restaurants a no no, oh well its beers at home with my partner.

Crack open the bubbly and the zoom sessions, enjoy your Christmas .

“Many people are alive today because of our actions” “we have the lowest death rate in Europe due to our actions”

No Micheál, the age profile of the nation is the reason, not the restrictions

    All age profile

Come the end of April we should be in a better place. Maybe level 2 and by June no levels.

There is light at the end of the tunnel and we will get there.

For now, have a safe xmas all, no matter what side of the table ye are on for this debate.

Is there any evidence that hairdressers/barbers are major spreaders of Covid?

There are a certain cohort of people who are anti restrictions and are genuine loons, and there are a certain cohort of people on the other side of the argument only too happy to lump everyone who isn't 100% behind the current approach in with them. The fact there are basically two threads on this site to discuss the same thing says a lot, there isn't much room for nuance or middle ground. I've found the absolute fúcking hysteria of the last two days a bit much but I'm not against reintroduction of restrictions either (there is a debate to be had about how much and for how long). We knew cases would go back up, here we are, it's not the end of the fúcking world.

Again the biggest problem with this is they are using cases as metrics, they should be using ICU capacity as a metric.
Also, have they made ANY effort to increase this in the 10 months since we knew this virus would be an issue ?

If they have €800M for PUP surely they could allocate some money to the health service.

They have no evidence on how the increase happened from Level 5 to Level 3.

Twice they opened the restaurants and the barbers and cases went up. It might not be related to them, but something caused it

It was approved yesterday (Monday) according to that.

And if "Portugal begin vaccinating on Sunday", that'll be 6 days after approval. As per the link. They aren't approving it next Monday. But tenses can be hard.

Imagine that. Causing 20% + unemployment in the state with no evidence. Only in 2020

Sorry I forgot - you posted it. You arent genuine, restaurants re opened on 29th of June and there was no increases in cases until mandatory masks were introduced in shops on 10th of August.

Again why can't you link that what you perceive as low numbers is directly connected to the restrictions.

If the country (and rest of Europe) had been put in full lockdown for 6 months in March then we'd probably be in better shape.

Wuhan did it and life is pretty normal there now but people here wouldn't have it and we're in this continuous cycle of restrictions, ease them, restrictions ease them etc.

I hope you’re practicing what you’re preaching? I’m assuming you have put yourself and your family in a bolted up door style lockdown like they did in Wuhan? So you are in total lockdown? I will assume you are because of your strong view on it.

Well i think we all know its not them causing it, instead people increased their social circle. But people aren't providing all the info to HSE when they test positive.

So no choice really, just lock it down. Until we all play ball we will never get anywhere

The domestic violence that is now inevitable throughout the country over the xmas/new year period is frightening and will not be pleasant but that won't bother our betters in Dublin 4.
Meanwhile those who make the decisions are and have been on full pay since March.
Apparently you can't catch this deadly virus at 2.55 on xmas eve but are likely to get it at 3.05!
There has been no science whatsoever behind these restrictions over the past nine months.

No. It will run into 2021, until we get a majority vaccinated.

The biggest joke is the review on 12th Jan...

We have lots of evidence now that lockdown doesn’t work unless you stay locked down.

So just f*cking stop with the nonsense “for 3 weeks”.

Trying to keep the public onside with clear lies.

Domestic Violence happens at xmas more than ever. Lockdown or no lockdown will stop it sadly.

2019 December was the highest pre covid

Less restrictions virus instance rate goes up

More restrictions virus instance rate goes down.

Do you want us in lockdown indefinitely?

That's a turn up for the books.

    Absolutely not!

But that appears to be plan. And many people working full time support it as well.

Jaysus Boggles that doesnt seem to reflect reality. Barely any restrictions mid June to mid August yet virus instance was on the floor.

    Try harder.

The government has gone completely against EU recommendations by extending the travel ban.

In fairness most of those many people are either WFH keyboard warriors or public sector workers who are completely unaffected.

We have an extremely messed up society. "If it doesnt affect me, its alright". This thread is great reflection of it, unfortunately.

26th of june they opened, 14th of July cases started to rise.
Now considering it was summer and we were outside more instead of inside, would explain the slower growth, but they did start to rise two weeks after they opened

Just to be clear. If you live in Northern Ireland, can you still wander freely around the Republic after the 26th?

We have no authority over the north and apparently no balls to shut the border

And that attitude during level 3 got us back to level 5.

It rained most of the summer.

A man may know that nobody has insulted him, but that he has invented the insult for himself, has lied and exaggerated to make it picturesque, has caught at a word and made a mountain out of a molehill--he knows that himself, yet he will be the first to take offense, and will revel in his resentment till he feels great pleasure in it.”- ― Fyodor Dostoevsky, The Brothers Karamazov

    “Hold a position of authority”

    How does he hold that?

He advises the the Government cabinet directly on national medical matters.

How is that not a position of authority?
