Sorry just saw your reply after I posted.

Food for thought from an earlier post of mine maybe.

"there is scope to make both groups more even and competitive by have a 10 team All Ireland series.

Munster and Leinster champions are ran as they previously were straight knockout, the winners of each province get 2 bonus points which is carried into the AI group phase.

The All Ireland is two groups of 5 teams in each group, groups are seeded, or a Munster drawn then Leinster then munster and so on,

The top team from each group go into AI semi final, 2nd and 3rd placed teams play off in quarter finals.

Bottom of each group play a relation play off with the loser being relegated and the Joe Mac winners promoted.

The groups would be drawn each year and an example of groups could be

Group 1, Limerick, Wexford, Waterford, Kilkenny, Offaly

Group 2, Cork, Galway, Tipperary, Dublin, Clare.

The option could be to reduce the above to 2 groups of 4 or increase it to 6 per group to try and make the so called weaker counties strong by getting games against the top sides.

I think it's important to retain the Munster and Leinster championship and by giving bonus points it should give teams a reason to win it.

Finally I do think Munster presently is amazing, it's like an All Ireland in itself, so the GAA need to work on making Leinster more competitive or try something else."

I like that system and would be nice going to places like Wexford Park, Tullamore, Parnell Park in late spring/early summer weather vice versa

Not sure how the 2 Joe McDonagh teams feel about doing the extra training for the All Ireland Preliminary QF each year although this year Kildare be buzzing with a big team coming to Newbridge

Best of luck to all the lads today. a tough task but if we go down there stand up to them we’ll give ourselves a real shout. So much hinging on this game, if we pull it off it would be a famous victory if we don’t it could be the end of the road for a number of these players that have given so much over the years. Either way, all any Waterford supporter wants is a team that we can get behind and be proud of and that will be no different today

A 2017 semi-final type cork ambush would do nicely 😃 however unfortunately I think that is only likely ‘if Heineken did Munster round robin games’ 🥲

The very best of luck to Peter and the team today. Can’t see it being a good afternoon, it feels like anything under a 5-7pt loss wouldn’t be a bad outcome.

Isn't the under 20 system a match between the Munster and Leinster winners? So both provinces are automatically represented?

Crazy changing weather and gusty winds here today. Anything can happen. I’m getting my hopes up as usual but a good start and anything is possible. We definitely need to contain them for the first 10-15 minutes and hopefully get a lead.

That’s the spirit. we should send yourself and PTH into the dressing room before the match to rally the troops.

WaWas thinking Daly would have to be a big doubt for today, he limped off badly after the Tipp game.. have to drive on now with what we have and have faith in the panel

does Kieran come straight in at corner back?

Waterford such a poorly coached team. Yere midfield is very weak and over playing the ball every time in that area of the pitch.

going to need goals big time in second half preferably early .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,622 ✭✭✭Dick phelan

Needed a lead with that wind. Gonna need some goals in the 2nd half to win

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,622 ✭✭✭Dick phelan

Another year of nothing. Sometimes it kills you following this team. Be a few rocky years ahead with a few important men coming towards the end

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36 gunners200

Where would Waterford be without Stephen bennett my god, quelly out of depth tactically if ya ask me

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 329 ✭✭Montys return

We're a bit short of the required quality. But one thing I wouldn't hear from anyone is that this team doesn't have character. They had it in spades and have left it all out there the last two years.

Not good enough unfortunately but fought to the bitter end. Hard luck to them.

Finish bottom of the Munster Championship that’s the reality season over in the first throws of summer , it wouldn’t suit Queally and you wouldn’t want to bring on too many players too early but to be honest with and with there bound to be retirements , I would be introducing more new players into this panel and giving them more time . I’d rather take the more pain ( not that it’s any different ) then pretending that current panel will break through .
