Sorry but that post is delusional. Since the league, coupled with wins over Limerick last year, there has been massive hype about Cork. Tickets like hens teeth, journalists etching the name on Liam McCarthy before a ball was thrown in and, thank God,, Hoggy will get the All Ireland he deserves.

If Cork don’t even get out of Munster it willl be a massive flop. Cork are still favourites but there is never a huge expectation on Waterford so it’s a free shot at glory. They could easily implode too. That’s the level of our expectation.

I'm hoping we roll the dice a bit this Sunday while maintaining our defensive stability and would love to see us go with the following team.

    Nolan

    Daly Prunty Kenny

    M Fitz TDB Shane Bennett

    G Fives J Barron

St Bennet J Prendergast M Kiely

    D Hutchinson A Gleeson P Fitzgerald

In the full back line Prunty takes Hayes Daly (if fit) takes Connolly and Kenny takes Horgan. The first two in the half hack line again the same as before and Shane Bennett I've often felt is more influential when facing the play.

Darragh Lyons is held in reserve to make an impact in the 2nd half which he so often done under Liam Cahill when space opened up.

The forward line I've picked with scorers and ball winners. If Gleeson if fit to play any part I 100% agree that it should be from the start as opposed to the end. If it's only 35 mins let it be the first 35 mins and pose the question to Cork from the get go.

Dice needs to be rolled big time. Expecting team to be announced within the next hour or so. I honestly think and agree with Mullane that a 50% fit Ozzie at the edge of the square works in the modern game. Leavy and Fives (huge lack of pace) had awful games last weekend and I’d drop both. Mahoney needs to go also. More than likely, Queally won’t drop Mahoney and won’t pick Ozzie.

    Nolan

    Daly Prunty Kenny

TDB (on harnedy) Fitz K.Bennett (On Fitzgibbon)

    Lyons Pendergast

    Kiely (on Coleman) Barron St.Bennett

    Dessie Gleeson Sh.Bennett

    Subs
    Curran
    C,.Daly
    P.Fitzgerald

Anything else is weaking the team.

I’d agree with you 100% on Shane Bennett. He’s wasted at corner forward. Decent team although I’m not sure I trust Fives yet.

I would approve of those changes ; a big call to drop Dessie but not unexpected. Where's Aussie !

Had to happen with Dessie might be a blessing in disguise for him takes a bit of the pressure away and what a sub to have to bring in all the same

Best of luck to Sean Walsh he can cause problems for them for sure

Some big and brave calls at least. Best of luck to Sean Walsh now and hopefully he makes an impact. Dropping Dessie seems merited on form but lots of managers wouldn't be brave enough to do it. As above, what a sub to come on. I hope he swaps Fives and Leavey like he did the last game so all of us here are at least a little happier :D

Interesting that Carthach Daly is back on the bench too.

The atmosphere in the Parc on Sunday will we intense. We had an opportunity to go full blooded from the off at a possibly vulnerable Cork defence. Hope I am wrong but that attack will not cut it.

    Cork backs will be delighted

tis not the team in my opinion to win this game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5 westwaterfordaqua

strange one imo, hope it works out but to drop your captain after cork named a weakened team seems like a trick missed to me. still plenty of talent and a very strong sub list.

Agree with master though, a dessie with a point to prove in the last 15/20 could be what we need.

I’m guessing Walsh is in to try and win some puck outs. He’s a good direct runner and goal threat on his day. Where is giveitfong gone. I’d love to see some analysis on our puck out success and also compare SOB to Billy in that regard. It’s easy for all of us to be know it alls and we’ll all be experts after it’s over but for now I guess we’ll have to trust that Queally and Dan are picking the best team available to win on the day. Nobody will want it more than them.

was just wondering myself what ever happened to ‘give it fong’. He/she/they always provided great stats and commentary……maybe the ‘legs are gone’….!!!

Yeah giveitfongs analysis was always something to look forward to. Think he/she used to post on afr back in the day

an fear rua……Liam Cahill ran the site. Not the tipp manager but a wateford version of him….think he passed away a few years ago. It was a great resource in its day. Another famous poster was ‘Sid Wallace’ but he gave up / retired also. He made the odd appearance on this forum but nothing for years. Two mount Sion stalwards from memory also

I've seen little to no Cork fans on the Cork thread speak like that. What some of the pundits are saying is another story entirely though!

It's a do or die championship clash so of course there is pressure on Waterford, even though people will have Cork down as being favourites.

Still on the look out for 2 x stand tickets if any one here's of any floating around i'd really appreciate it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 207 ✭✭Deiselurker

Are there many Waterford fans going down tomorrow? Tickets seem to have sold out weeks ago when they went on sale with I presume mainly Cork fans buying them.

We ended up getting them from the club even though they had no mention of selling any. They've even managed to get us 3 seats together this time after getting a mix of 1 seat and terrace tickets for both the Walsh Park games

All Ireland Minor Hurling Prem Quarter Finals

    Clare 2-20 Dublin 0-13

    Limerick 1-20 Wexford 0-15

So its Limerick or Clare again for us in the All Ireland Minor QFs

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2 SionnachDéise

Lads, where's the best place in the east of the county to watch the hurling tomorrow with a decent beer garden?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,495 ✭✭✭Mastermcgrath

The gap between Munster and Leinster is growing at an alarming rate now, considering we were a good bit better than both Limerick and Clare. This provincial system has to go sooner rather than later I think.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5 westwaterfordaqua

Galway, Offaly and Kilkenny have been winning all Irelands at minor or u20 the last few years, during the same time Waterford couldn’t win a game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,495 ✭✭✭Mastermcgrath

I’m referring to the current senior provincial system and what the future looks like. no guarantee Offaly will come strong at senior while Kilkenny and Galway will always be strong. It’s basically Kilkenny and Galway competing in Leinster for the foreseeable and that’s it while Munster will be a mine-field. I just think the whole championship is flawed and lob-sided and needs to be looked at

Leinster teams have competed in the last 5 (Galway being one) u20 All Ireland Finals, and winning two of those five, with those two wins coming in the last 3 years?
