how much ‘disarray’ are cork in after their mauling. hopefully they will have an ‘it’s only wateford’ attitude going into the game like Tipperary did back in 2023…..? If they do they could be troubled 🤔 but more than likely the home crowd plus their desire to show that last weeks drubbing was a once off will prevail and they will win comfortably……..it would be so sweet to pull off a victory though but just can’t see it happening…🥲🥲

But back in Corks players minds will be Shur its only waterford and no matter how much of a drubbing if any they inflict..Will still not change the publics thinking that Cork will never beat limerick in munster final..same place..same crowd ..it will actually do them more damage psychologically If they are well turned over again…so waterford could be in a far better frame of mind to inflict damage on them

It would be so sweet if we mugged them like they did to us in 2022

That was a horrible horrible day

One of the worst - remember leaving walsh park in a daze. Still dont understand what happened that day. Gleeson being niggled off the ball the whole game and then getting sent off with 2 cork lads on top of him was the cherry on top

.... or Cork believing they're still better than anyone else, they will be all out to beat Waterford just to have another crack at Limerick !

Completely targeted that day, it was frustrating watching half the cork team rotate in to take a dig at him with the umpires looking directly at it.

Gleeson should not be named. He is not at all fit, and definitely not match fit.

His place on the bench could be taken by someone who is fit and able, even if they do not have intercounty experience.

I will be surprised if Queally does not replace him.

Some people are too quick to dismiss Aussie. More than anyone, he needed game time in the league but he picked up injuries. By all accounts, he did well to make it on to the bench against Clare. Anyone who saw him in warming up last Sunday agrees that he looked leaner so has clearly been putting in the work. Let’s not forget the talent he has. Too many conspiracies about the man as usual.

Leavey is also getting some stick which I think is unfair. He’s been played out of position. Queally has obviously got concerns with our half back options which is why he tried Kiely there in the league. That line could be tweaked but I think moving Tadhg out of 6 would be madness now. Our midfield and half forwards should be working back like in every other top team to smother that space that Ormonde had.

As someone said, our defense hasn’t been our problem so why reinvent the wheel as a defense should be stable. My concern is that Daly may be injured. Otherwise the only change I’d make is to move Leavey out to midfield as his decision making is always good and he directs the play well.

The forwards just need to perform. Even when diagonal ball was played against Limerick, we didn’t get the scores we should have from it so while the delivery has not been good, the use of the ball has been poorer. The first touch needs to be good. Dessie needs to back himself and take on his man and head straight for goal.

We badly need a Will O’Donoghue type midfielder.

what about the 2017 semi v cork though. 52nd min on was one of the best last 20 mins ever for a waterford team in croke park.🤔 wonder goal from Gleeson, Jamie Barron put icing on the cake in injury with 4th goal while thousands of corkonians were streaming out of croke park early to catch the train home….😀…….is there any chance of a repeat of this on Sunday ?

that was the day the wheels came off for Liam Cahill. We were favourites that day Cork had lost their first 2 games and looked doomed Then came down and absolutely bullied us out of it in our own patch. I remember Harnedy getting a point near the end and running over to one of our backs and just shouldering him out of it and our i remember thinking talk about insult to injury

If all fit would keep 1 to 9 same but get leavey into midfield and fives half back. Don’t get why leavy has been olayed out of position he looked lost against limerick and same Sunday. Play him where he is comfortable and hopefully he can do what he does best and link the play from back to front. Backs have done well so far so no point in changing if not broken though think Sunday will be their hardest test coz if cork forwards get motoring they can do serious damage. would like to see Shane b or Patrick fitz start with Mahoney dropping out. Dessie should probably go but I’m hoping he brings the frustration he showed when substituted in thurles down to cork and takes it out on the field of play on Sunday.
like most I’m not hopeful for Sunday and think the most likely scenarios are

    1. Game plays out like it did last year against limerick where we kept plugging away but never really looked like winning or
    2. Or heaven forbid it turns out like Ennis in 22 where we didn’t show up at all and got an unmercifull hiding

yeah. That was such a sickner of a game. Cahalane also was acting the thug for entire game….harnedy also a w@nker that day with his triumphalism after scoring and the ‘rubbing it in’ with the in players faces verbals …….wheels came fully off in the next game thiugh in Ennis ….🥲

Everybody says our back have been solid, but the centre forward has absolutely roasted us in the last 2 matches. Our backs have been solid, but everyone including me says Leavy has been at best average at wing back.
We haven’t been conceding goals because Tadhg has dropped so deep. Teams have very much targeted this area of our game and ran riot from midfield up to our 45 scoring points at relative ease, especially by comparison to how hard we seem to have had to work for scores the past 2 games.

    No hassle at all

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 765 ✭✭✭Jjjjjjjjbarry

You're right in that maybe there's too much focus on the forwards and taking defence for granted. The less you concede, the less you have to score. But one of our last two games was against an in form Limerick so give them a break there…. look what they did against Cork in 35 minutes!

I think for the Cork game, personally I'd let Tadgh drop when needed but that doesn't mean leaving a centre forward free to pick off points. That can't happen and our half forwards need to get back and our midfielders need to command that middle third. As I've been saying all year, midfield is a worry and a young Peter Queally would be great.

I don't think any of us think Leavey should be wing back so we're going around in circles with that one. I'd worry about Kenny against Cork too but at this stage, what else will he do? He hasn't featured Ryan, Keane, Cathrach, Power, Seamie Fitz etc so can't see any of them suddenly appearing. I can't see Mark Fitz dropping into the full back line as then you've to replace him and that means Leavey ain't going anywhere. No, I'd stick with our full back line and make that switch to move Leavey into midfield with the job of covering when Tadgh drops.

you will quickly get yourself a ban/warning for using the ‘L’ word when referring to the cork folk….be careful

    Four changes to cork team

Seamus Harnedy in for deccie dalton

    Ger mellireck for Niall O'Leary.

    Cormac O'Brien for Rob Downey.

    Brian Roche for Ethan Twomey.

Dalton, O’Leary and Downey big losses

Apart from last Sunday cork have come flying out of the blocks in most games they have played this year going for goals when the chance arises. Last Sunday has to have hit their confidence and put a few doubts in the minds. If we can survive the early onslaught and stay within touching distance til half time those doubts might start to increase and the locals may get restless and then you never know.

22 in Walsh park was a sickener. We were poor that day but I think cork caught us off guard with the **** that they were doing off the ball ( very in cork like) and got in a lot of our lads heads. Obviously targeted Ozzie with the aim of getting him sent off which they succeeded. The second yellow was a disgrace, cork lad initiates the tussle with Ozzie and then pulls Ozzie down on top of him and of course the unwritten rule in the GAA of giving both lads a yellow even though one lad had **** all to do with the incident (sorry for the rant but I was raging coming out of Walsh park that day)
anyway hope queally reminds the lads of the **** that went on that day.

In regards to that game i think Cork were fired up to prove a point after losing the first two games, and from what i can recall Waterford went into that game as favourites. It was nicely setup for an ambush. People say there's more pressure on Cork this Sunday but i think the pressure is the same for both teams. The year is over for whoever loses!

dress it up however you want, that’s a massively weakened cork team.

Missing their most in form man-marker

    their number 6

And their long range free taker.

Cork still have massive firepower up front but couldn’t ask for a better scenario for deise forwards to step up Sunday.
