Gleeson can't be anyway fit so no surprise he only gets a few minutes and Sean Walsh is limited from what I've seen of him to date

Limerick clearly the better team but there’s life in Waterford yet. Still all to play for.

absolutely give ye every chance v tipp. 4 points may be enough.

We don't have the physicality to match up but Limerick were finding some load of spare men to pass to. Thought Diarmuid Byrnes yellow could/should have been a second since he should have got a yellow for the first challenge. Unfortunate to say but it might have given us some chance.

We match up so badly with Limerick, not hammered but never looked like winning. Have to go and beat Tipp or Cork now. Tough but not impossible

Limerick the much better team and didn't even need to go for goals

We done well enough in the 2nd half but Limerick stepped it up when needed

    Very vocal crowd

The Tipp game will be huge now, that 3rd game has been very troublesome for us over the years

Do we want a Clare win next weekend over Tipp ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,663 ✭✭✭decies

virtually every game had been troublesome for us under this format

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,041 ✭✭✭deisedude

I dont think it matters to be honest who wins next week. I don't buy the argument Tipp won't try to beat us even if they lose to Clare

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,451 ✭✭✭Mastermcgrath

that was all a bit predictable. We were lambs to the slaughter after the 6 day turnaround and Limerick have had the measure of us in the physicality stakes for how many years now. Seeing Jamie Barron out on his feet after 60 mins told you all you needed to know

We have one more bite at the cherry to get out of Munster against Tipp, at least there’s a 2 week turnaround to get over the last gruelling 6 days.

Everyone was crying out for Aussie to be brought on earlier but looking at him struggling to get around the field when he came on, unfortunately he looks done.

Yes. Clare win knocks Tipp out before we play them. plus we have the head to head over Clare if it comes down to level on points

The break will do the lads the world off good. We absolutely can go and beat Tipp if we play to our top level. I'm still encouraged by some things tonight, for one two championship games and no goals conceded.

I think if he was really flying in training, Queally would have used him earlier. I was happy that Queally was proactive from the bench and made subs early to try get back into it. Curran was unfortunately anonymous, getting Kiely on helped. However I can’t get my head around taking Patrick Fitz off at HT. I don’t think Dessie has had a big performance for us in a while, interesting how himself, Kev mahony and Padraig Fitz had extremely good club seasons but can’t seem to cut the mustard at this level.

Final note, Mark Fitz is outstanding. Epitomises everything you want from a hurler. I’d put him in at 6 and drive on

Exactly about Aussie. Didn't play a single second in the league and the people on here saying he was flying.

Obviously he's far far off the pace.

Have to target Tipp now. The fact we have a week off while they play a huge game next weekend should work in our favour. It’s not as tight as our turnaround as they play Clare next Saturday while we face them on the Sunday, but it’s still to our advantage.

    And if they lose...

Their points difference is poor already

Limerick are a super team and I think we were always going to need a couple of goals and a bit of luck, no missed frees and those shots that dropped short to go over. It wasn’t meant to be unfortunately. At times, it looked all too easy for Limerick and they had another gear when needed.

Kiely made a huge impact when he came on and surely needs to start the next day? The full forward line is becoming a bit of a worry. We’ve talent but something seems off and they’re not clinical enough when they get good position. There was also a hell of a lot of long high ball pumped in which I don’t think really suits them as much.

I think people are expecting too much from Aussie. He’s had basically no game time for two years and suffered some injury setbacks. More than anyone, he would have needed the league to get him ready but apparently was injured.

I think we’re well capable of beating Tipp if we can match their work rate. Cahill will probably send someone out to target Bennett again so hopefully they’ll be ready for that.

I think Queally will have learned more about his team today than any other. It’s the first game we’ve lost since the opening day league defeat up in Carlow. Changes for the next day Gavin Fives and Kiely to come in. Leavy out, Curran out, is better coming in off the bench, Kevin Mahony out id stick with Fitzgerald and Shane Bennett in, needs to start imo. Also it’s s**t or bust time with Aussie he’s either fit enough or he’s not, either you trust him or you don’t.

Be such a shame if Aussie can't get back to full fitness and calls it a day after this year . He could regret that year out

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,663 ✭✭✭decies

Aussie should not be on the bench if he can’t do at least 30 mins

    Lots of negativity here lads.

Limerick were superb today. Took there scores from all over the field.

The main reason for a lot of this was Cian Lynch.

We don't have a Cian Lynch.

Mark Fitz is a talent though.

What are we going to do when 'Stephen Bennett', 'Jamie Barron' and 'TDB' call it a day which could be after this year

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,544 ✭✭✭Dick phelan

I mean we just have to keep going, Waterford hurling has been In far darker times than we are now. I have been encouraged by some of the other lads in the two games so far.

Not overly disappointed, to be fair it was always going to be a big ask to beat them after the 6 day turnaround. I think nearly everyone was going in in hope more than expectation if we’re being honest.

Probably the main disappointing thing was knowing as early as 10 mins in we weren’t going to win. Limerick had pulled 4 or 5 clear and you know it’s curtains when that happens. It was very similar to previous years against them where we leave ourselves with too much of a gap to bridge and never looked like winning. Would have hoped we could at least have lived with them until 50/60 mins before tiring but to be fair we did fight back a bit and got to within a few points at one stage. If that Bennett one handed shot around the 50th min had gone in who knows what would’ve happened.

Performances from a few were poor enough, really need to get more out of Dessie and the FF line in general as others pointed out. Mark Fitz again very good and Nolan really is an asset on the goal. Offers the threat of a long range point scorer and a good shot stopper too.

It was said before the game it was a must win but in reality it probably wasn’t. Obviously every game is a must win in its own right but we have another big shot in two weeks against Tipp. Many probably would have viewed that as the big crunch game. Tipp themselves might even be as good as gone by then and perhaps Cork might even be qualified by the time we play them and could afford to rest players. So we’re still in with a shout with everything in our own hands.

    Up the Deise

you are right about pretty much everything , to explain further on why it seemed obvious that limerick looked in control after ten minutes and why the inside line were starved was down to the formations of both teams

waterford dropped back a 7th defender that had little impact on the game pulled an inside forward into the half forward line leaving hutchinson on his own inside ,

limericks half back line were excellent plus they used barry nash as an extra half back which meant they had built a wall across the 60 , every puck out that landed down on the waterford half forward line it was 2v1 in limericks favor , and every time waterford ran at limerick they seemed to drop back a midfielder to add to the already clogged up half back line ( a warning to cork in two weeks time ) last week waterford got the matchups right all over the field tonight they did everything right bar the sweeper , they should have persisted with a 3rd man in midfield to attack the limerick backs

waterford were very good at times tonight , a similar performance will be enough to beat tipp or cork and progress

I can recall the same being said when Ken McGrath, Paul Flynn, Dan Shan, John Mullane etc were beating retirement…the world didn’t end and sky didn’t fall down….🤔

Limericks passing game is just perfection.

I think Waterford did very well to live with them considering the track record of both teams over the last 5/6 years.

The heads never dropped and even though the lads were dead on their feet they never stopped trying. Kiely impressed me and really is a threat, needs to start next day. Nolan was unbelievable too i too, really knows when to leave the line.

Looking forward to Semple in two weeks time!

Who's your wan on the microphone in walsh psrk? Utter useless. More life in morgue. The PA system very poor also.

On the pitch, limerick are back, simple as that

Limerick are like a well oiled machine. They didn’t just suddenly turn it on yesterday that’s 7/8 years of a winning formula ingrained into them. It would be massive for us to get a win against Limerick but wasn’t to be.

We need to go and win against Tipp no 2 ways about it, otherwise it’s curtains. I wouldn’t even be thinking about the Cork game even if we do need to win against them in their home pitch it could be out of our hands by that stage if Clare beat Tipp
