How do I call numbers in NI and Britain. Do I just call through and it's charged to my card or do I prepay in some way?

Use 048 prefix for NI landlines.

VOIP is the best option for other calls, eg Yolla, Viber etc

AFAIK, international calls cost 23c per minute from a 48 SIM

    Tethering is useless on 48

Do they block it or something?

What phone are you trying to tether with?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 107 ✭✭Newuser2

In connecting the Android box to the phone

    Samsung galaxy a21s

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,819 ✭✭✭Ten Pin

Does tether work for any other device?

    Does USB tethering work?

Does the phone show up as an available network on the box?

Ya it works on other phones but is useless for streaming

    Cuts out every minute

It would only be very occasional calls and not too long. Do I need to top up extra on 48 to call.

i tried porting from Virgin mobile this morning-the app wont accept their 6 digit account number-inserted my mobile number to get by that screen and now the app wont accept the 48 activation code? Any suggestions.

Do I need to top up extra on 48 to call.

048 should be included in allowance. Extra top up required for 0044 numbers. Minimum top up amount is one euro.

AIUI, membership needs to be active to use additional credit to make non inclusive calls.

I did a port today, and was able to put in the 6 digit number.

The port was rejected though, so I got onto 48 on chat and they've submitted the request again. Try a chat.

Only you can answer that yourself. Proximity to mast, line of sight, walls etc etc. Order a free sim and give it a try.

Yes, I got both working-I am in Dublin though, where I assume the signal is good.

I'm moving to 48 from Three. My billing period was up until the 13th, but my sim only arrived today so am I better off waiting until close to the 13th of next month before activating the sim?

If you were bill pay with three, they will refund you what they owe you, so it’s as much as much to be honest.

Really? Okay, that's great. I'm on a sim only billpay.

Any advance payment will be refunded pro rata depending on the date of porting and any out of plan usage from 13th to the port date will be billed.

Try out the 48 SIM for a few days before porting.

Sim arrived this morning. Have requested my unlock code from Vodafone so once that’s here I will port over. Was with 48 years ago and found them decent enough. Hopefully still good

    Can you be more specific?

It's normally either APN or signal or maybe both.

    APN should be...

I ported from virgin media to 48 on Monday at 11am, everything seemed fine, my virgninsim stopped working so I put in and set up the 48 sim.
But since I ported I can't receive calls or texts from other networks.
I can receive calls from 3 and have mobile data, but that's all.

I've been on to the live chat 4 times and I'm just told that they are escalating it, has anyone had anything like this before?

It seems like I've a split port??

Have they changed how to activate a simcard. I got a recruiter sim from my own account for a family member it was maybe towards the end of November time with intentions of signing her up before the offer expired (for the first time). Never got around to it and now it looks like you can't get recruiter sims anymore, just give the link and they sign up themselves.

To activate a sim now it looks like you either need to sign in to the account you made when you order the sim or sign up and make an account.

Am I as well off just starting again with the referral link?

Only one SIM per login/email so it'll be the same process whether using the spare SIM or a new one from scratch.

Set up a new login and activate the SIM in the same way you activated your own SIM.

Not sure what way the recruit reward will work as the terms changed in mid November.
