According to some news reports - Chinese officials claim that the neighboring country of Kazakhstan is dealing with an outbreak of a (new strain?) of coronvirus virus that’s even deadlier than the novel coronavirus.

With little or no evidence to back up the claim - the purpose of such finger pointing is possibly to deflect attention elsewhere. That said its not likley the WHO are going to say anything that might be deemed as negative of their good friends eitherway.

I always thought it was a remarkable coincidence that Wuhan had a CDC facility which just happened to be studying Corona viruses around the time Covid-19 started. How common are these facilities, do we have one in Dublin or anywhere else in Ireland?

Likely the covid drama will spurge a growth in their smart cities over the coming years, central to this is smart lamposts (the type HK protesters tried to cut down).
These (solar) smart posts deliver weather stations, 5g with driverless assistance, even car charging. Will also merge with the colour coded Healthcare app.
Not only will the ai-bot be able to pick out a flu ridden persons face from distance, they will offer constant surveillance for the (+/-) SCS points game.

Don't reckon, it was a BSL4 Biosafety Level 4 Contaiment Lab (googlebot says only 5 in Europe, 21 or so in the world), which means if you drop your toast there and it lands butterside down on the welcome mat, then best to bin it.

The only new deadlier strain (even for young) appears to be isolated incidents in India (Jalandhar/Kota), not a concern as of yet, so they say (fingers crossed).

On the opposite side, D614G is spreading fast (x10 faster), but is the least leathal so far, this is perhaps the ideal scenario for any attempt towards herd immunity.

China Beige Book for somewhat accurate figures and not the puffed up figures handed to Beijing by provincial governments for political reasons. This is a communist government, they still have a Stalinist quota mindset when it comes to economic figures. Swap in X percent GDP group with tractor tire / pig iron quotas and you get the idea.

I think you may have missed this bit re. A Chinese claim about a deadlier strain. ...

Its a bit of a catch22, you identify coronaviruses as the most likely pathogen to cause a pandemic, so you study it in a lab, Naturally you were correct but that leads to the possibility that it actually came from your lab?

I have searched and cant find any news reports giving up to date position in China. It appears that they don't have a second wave like most of the rest of the world (although some countries are still weathering the first wave) so did their strict lock down effectively kill the virus there or not?

The have locked downed Qingdao this week. The found two cases and locked down the city and did 10 million tests in 5 days. Last week China had a huge holiday also so you can be sure they have community spread again. Of course they will cover it up. There is no way their data is correct.

The also have a vaccine which they haven't really tested and are injecting into millions of people. They will win the vaccine race for sure but as with everything in China they are cutting corners to get there first. They ****ed up massively and will try to build some soft power with vaccine diplomacy.

Every day since March they have between 10 and 30 cases , in a country of 1.5 billion , no second wave , meanwhile eveywhere else ther has ben peaks and second waves , and somohow China bucks the trend , they have serious questions to answer, but somehow I dont think they will be.

Life is normal, same as pre Covid. Different regime admittedly. Masks obligatory. They take no prisoners there.

The Chinese Communist Party haven't told the truth since 1921. I doubt they are telling the truth now. Xi Jinping declared victory on the virus at the beginning of the year after the Wuhan lockdown. So they cannot let it come back now otherwise the coward will lose face.

Meanwhile the rest of the world (except Sweden ) then believed lockdowns could defeat the virus, as it is some kind of military war/enemy - many people think if we go to level 5 for 6 weeks the virus will be no more in Ireland and we can all then have a normal Christmas.

No lockdowns as such any more except when cases are found:

A few cases were detected last week in a city of 9million so they tested everyone in the city and found 12 cases apparently, quarantined them and move on. Took them 5 days to test 9 million.

Wouldn’t this be cheaper than stalling an economy of entire countries?

We should test all of the island of Ireland, enforce quarantine of all infected.

The other thing China does is have mandatory quarantine of people who enter the country for 14 days enforced.

We also need to manage the people entering in ways like this?

China apparently is flying now no lockdowns because of these two very simple things:

Test everyone where there are cases, forced quarantine for infected

Force quarantine for people entering the country or get tested for covid before being allowed to mix with the population

South Korea and many other countries are letting in Chinese tourists and none of them have tested positive for the virus, while they have caught many cases from other countries

China are Covid free, like New Zealand, absolutely, no doubts.
