    Sigh. You’re NPHET’s dream citizen.

If these people were coming from a non-green list country they could still go straight to the gathering.
The same way someone returning from Tullamore could attend the same function.

There is no quarantine. There never was. People didn’t get the wordplay by the government and just blindly followed their ‘advice’

In their attempt to humanise the idea of locking one’s self away for 2 weeks, the government changed the wording to ‘restricting your movements’ Soothing.

Are you aware that I could fly to Germany tomorrow for beers and whatnot, return to work Monday and not quarantine. Yet I can’t go to a pub in Dublin. Kildare is fine. But you despair at people not following the ‘advice’, from the people who brought you those^^^ rules, to ‘quarantine’?

I am a responsible citizen, and do not wish to make others ill because of my behaviour. I am representative of the responsible majority of Irish people.

You can go to Germany for the weekend and return if you wish as it is on the green list.

RTE news "and we can report 3 further deaths from Covid 19"

No no, 3 people died, most likely very frail elderly people with issues such as heart failure, kidney issues, Copd, cancer ect. With or without Covid 19 people will always continue to die from these issues unfortunately.

    Haha! Mother of.......

Exactly. I can go to Germany for the weekend, congregate in a busy pub setting then return to life here in Dublin first thing Monday morning. But I can’t go to a Dublin pub. I can, however, go to a Kerry pub.

Yet I’m advised not to go outside Dublin. But just weeks ago the advisors were saying staycations are best (the reason was to keep the money in the country as there were f all tourists coming in because of the deliberately worded ‘quarantine’ requirement to keep them out)

You don’t see how disjointed this is? And this is just a tiny snapshot of the problems/contradictions being seen on the ground.

Your responsible citizenry will not be thanked.

    What are you speaking about?

When the vaccine for covid arrives we will have reached the promised land.

Once we pass 85 we will likely wear a nappy and get fed via tube, have no idea what our name is, but our heart will beat for eternity so we will be completely alive.

    Looking forward to it

Which medical school did you attend?

People will continue to die from a variety of things, some will die before their time because of Covid, not that you care.

Similar stuff going on in England. Seven children can't group together to feed the ducks (due to the Rule of Six) but thirty men can group together to kill grouse (due to an exemption).

It's almost like they're changing their minds as the situation changes and more information is known. Crazy, eh?

I didn't go to medical school nor did Simon Harris but I presume you listened to him a few months back? I work in Healthcare so I see it with my own two eyes. I suppose that's what frustrates me most.

And any death is awful. I'm not saying it isn't. Maybe RTE should give us a full rundown of deaths in Ireland everyday. I think it's about 70 people a day. Suicide, cancer, road deaths. The whole lot

They do report traffic deaths. The others are not usually as a result of someone's else's irresponsibility.

It still makes me laugh that some people still think that government and public health officials are just doing the lockdowns for the craic or for their own benefit. Lol. Mad world.

I'm all for them working with the information at hand to revise the situation as it progresses. What I'm not okay with is the type of shambles we've had this week.

Tuesday we were all told a clear 5 level plan would be introduced to provide a clear path forward to "live with COVID"

Then the plan is released but Dublin is put on a special level not shown in the plan.

Friday comes along and Dublin's level has changed again to one that wasn't released in their plan.

Economies are built on confidence. The belief that a company can do business in the country and that people have a belief that the government is acting in their best interest are 2 key elements in keeping an economy going. Both of these are now being completely eroded. How can any business owner have faith that their business will not be shutdown with a few hours notice for weeks/months on end. And those that don't close have more and more restrictions placed on what they can do, how they can do it, where their employees must work and where they can and cannot travel to.

We are in a lot of trouble here, whether there's free money from the ECB/Bond markets or not.

It makes me worried that some people still haven't realised we have more or less given control of government policy to NPHET. This is now the second government to do this and shows no sign of changing.

I’ve long since given up posting on the Covid threads here but just a small bit of balance.

Last week a 62 year old I was involved in looking after died from severe covid pneumonia. 2 weeks ago he was playing in his golf clubs captains prize and had a very normal quality of life. He had a previous triple bypass, he wasn’t in perfect nick, but he had a few years left yet. He developed one of the nastiest and most progressive pneumonia’s I’ve seen in many years.

I actually don’t necessarily agree with the way the restrictions are going by the way. But there is a balance. Yes people get sick and die every year, but this is still a fairly horrible disease when it wants to be.

a few days ago there was a debate over covid measures being permanent.
some people said no way but the more suspicious of us said there was something afoot.

here is the lord commander of NPHET Dr Cillian de Gascun on the late late

These behavioural changes that people have taken on board need to stay with us for the next couple of years until something changes, be that a vaccine or something else.

It is insanity to be ruled by these technocrats

    Not suprised unfortunately.

I think it's insanity to believe that NPHET have an ulterior motive. I think it's insanity to ignore the science/facts because you don't like them.

I think this virus is a bollix of a thing and will cause untold damage to our economy. I think it is very unfortunate that some industries are impacted more than others. I think name calling is a very low level of debate. I think that people are forgetting that nothing has changed with the virus strength and level of contagiousness since it emerged in early 2020 - our behaviour has changed, that is all.

Not sure. Seemed to just be in the community but I don’t know about the contact tracing etc.

    Unbelievable.

    This is absolutely unbelievable.

We have just shut down an industry that employs 50,000 people in Dublin over "fears" of NPHET of increasing cases (that were ALWAYS GOING TO INCREASE BECAUSE BLOODY SCHOOLS HAVE RE OPENED), cases that have 1 thing in common - people are perfectly healthy.

M Martin has absolutely no back bone. Leo let him do this, he knows MM and FF are a dying horse with days numbered in politics.

How in the gods name can you do that when deaths with covid this month are that of road accidents in Ireland??? HOW? This is incomprehensible. And definitely last straw.

I predict 17-19% unemployment for 30 Sept btw. Every 5th person will be out of work in matter of weeks. Going from 400-600 euros per week to 250-300 euros per week for the 2nd time in 6 months will not keep seals happy clapping.

The increases started before the schools, so stop blaming them.

Dont agree with the restaurants shutdown or sports, but alot of sports are continuing on regardless

Yes they increased when people thought wearing a mask made you bullet proof.
    And increased again with schools

The amount of ‘blaming’ posts I’m seeing on social media and the other Covid thread is concerning. It’s somehow everyone else’s fault except themselves that numbers are going up...clearly some people don’t live in reality or look at the data. Some people still harping on about Dublin airport & ‘closing’ it, despite Dublin having a higher incidence rate now than many of its destinations.

Do people not realise the virus got in here in March/April and is very contagious? You could pick it up from getting petrol/diesel, masks don’t do much - especially cloth ones and others with noses/chins out. Except assuming you have it, it can protect others from viral load.
The stigmatisation + blame of people getting it is another disgraceful & dangerous precedent to set. Who would want to get tested unless they absolutely had to...

Well the world is full of risk...he took his chances and he came unstuck. It was ultimately his own choice and no one else’s. No one can own your health but yourself. That’s the harsh reality of life.

As a society people need to start taking ownership of their health- be it smoking, diet, exercise
