It really galls me that I would have to align myself with right-wing lunatics and 'patriots' to protest against restrictions but it is getting close to that point.

I don't see protest as being particularly useful in this instance. If we did a french style off with their heads revolution we'd still have to deal with the virus.

Was only considering that possibility too! Would there be a middle-ground non tin-foil hat wearing group I could socially-distance, wear-a-mask, march with?

Isnt putting capital city into lockdown - lunacy in itself though?

I pointed this out already but I guess you missed it. 3 weeks ago there was 1 person ICU, last week there was 6, as of today there is 14 in ICU and we now have 43 free ICU beds for the entire country heading into flu season. General hospital admissions of covid 19 patients are increasing every day now. It's not about cases or tests anymore unfortunately. You can read the numbers here https://www.hse.ie/eng/services/news/newsfeatures/covid19-updates/coronavirus-daily-operations-updates.html

This day three weeks ago there were 5 people in ICU. Source: your link.

Don't tell me other places have the same restrictions that we do?! I thought we were the only place with crazy/irrelevant/business destroying/nonsense* restrictions?

Yer and now there's 14 or more, what's your point?

My point is you are trying, and pathetically failing, to scaremonger. 14 is an incredibly small number of ICU cases.

Point is you told us in your post there was 1 person in ICU 3 weeks ago. You dont seem to be trustworthy with your "numbers".

So we should wait until it's full........?

A bit like Ronan Glynn trying to scare people into thinking they have covid and everyone they meet have covid. 2020 at its peak.

We definitely dont need to lockdown with spare ICU beds available. From your logic we d be in lockdown everywinter.

At what number will we start to worry and decide to do something about it? Is it better to wait until it's a worrying number or is it best to react earlier when it's doubling every week? Particularly when we are so Ill equipped?

No way, this won't be the same as last winter. Go look at the numbers from previous years. We have to be proactive here.

So basically, you think we should wait until we have no ICU beds left for sick people, which basically discounts your opinion.

Around 80% of cases of Covid-19 will be a mild to moderate illness, close to 14% have severe disease and around 6% are critical.

Generally, you need to be 15 minutes or more in the vicinity of an infected person and within two metres of them, to be considered at-risk, or a close contact.

this was back in May so why is the Taoiseach selling this as a deadly disease now with long term issues..not to mention the rest..the goal post have been moved now as a knee jerk

Im lost for words. The riots are coming.

If they do come, you can be sure the rioters will be wearing masks.

3rd of October. Maybe sooner though.

That's the date of the next protest, yeah? The only possible unrest that day (there won't be riots) will be between the nazis and the counter protesters. There won't be any riots against the government.

Would you recommend March style lockdown for the nation then effective tonight? Lets be "proactive"?

Rte said just now govt are "likely to accept this recommendation".

    Talk about scaremongering.

It’s a deadly disease!! Now make sure and wear a mask in case you have it and you don’t notice.

I’d say 100, nice and round. I don’t think that’ll happen this time though. But 100 is my number

Would they be the same “counter protesters” who counter protested a march against paedophelia??

Don’t worry. They tried to portray the anti water charges marchers as scroungers and wasters but the protestors were the actual WORKING people of all social backgrounds who had had their fill of paying for everything.

Despite knowing this, I still feel a bit embarrassed myself at telling anyone I’m going on the next march, feel I’ve to say in the next breath “but I’m not an anti vaxxer etc”. That’s how successful they’ve been at closing down debate and sidelining anyone who has an alternative view. Yet again, recommend the Daily Telegraph for a range of views on all this.

Why not go and have a look at the crowd-if you don't like what you see or hear you can always leave. As I said here after the protest on 22/8-it's pretty much the same demographic range as a GAA championship match.

Lovely. So until we get to 100 we can all go back to normal and then slowly bring in restrictions as it shoots up from 100. Have a look back at Bergamo. That'll be Dublin then.

You shouldnt feel embaressed for that. You should be embaressed for our incompetent governement, for large parts of population lacking any sense of critical thinking and more importantly remember that govt had 6 months to improve healthcare, they did nothing and now 12 people are sitting in chairs or on benches in Limerick hospital in the corridors as they dont even have spare trolleys there anymore, now thats a reason to feel embaressed as an Irish person.

You should feel embarrassed. Your alternative view is dangerous. What are you protesting against?

Outdoor dining brought in at the beginning of the Irish winter.

Well at least NPHET and the Government have a sense of humor.

I really don’t think these restrictions will do anything. They’ll only encourage gathering in uncontrolled environments. Which may actually see numbers increasing.

Or people from Dublin will flock to all parts of the commuter belt.

And even if numbers do come down, won’t they just go back up when the restrictions are lifted? What then? Keep locking down until the borrowed money runs out?

Bergamo? You d think if covid was this deadly rampant disease youd have more material by now (September) than referring to northern Italy.

Instead all you have are thousands of confirmed covid cases around Europe daily nowadays sharing 1 symptom - being perfectly healthy.
