Listening to Doom master George Lee on the 6 o'clock, very obvious that the pubs are getting tee'd up for a hiding. The tut tut brigade are winning.

When you have doom stooges like Lee sitting up there mentioning high falooting statements like " the pub issue" or " the reality of cases increasing if the pubs reopen", he has a neck on him.

That and the constant use of that awful phrase "wet pubs"on drivetime and such shows, all I can think of when I hear it is raving alcoholics, drunk tanks and swollen livers. Im certain its use is deliberate

A disgraceful package for the hospitality industry announced this evening.

    Absolute crumbs for the industry

wow....the selfish one crying he cannot socialize during a global pandemic claiming people are suffering by not going to the pub.

    dear god...

I'm grand actually, I've been able to invest in my hobbies while the pubs have been closed, but what I can't abide is people like yourself hiding behind caring for others when all you're really about is snobbery and wanting your own way.

    dear god...

Honestly the person doing the most crying on this thread is yourself.
All you do is pontificate from your high horse and sneer at other peoples circumstances and situations. It’s just getting boring now.

We know, you've repeated it time and time again the last few days

Based on the posts on this thread the last few days I'm pretty sure that lad has never seen the inside of a pub.

do we need a protest for the pubs ?

Why are we the only country in Europe to not have them open ??. Conspiracy to kill the culture here

Nope - both FF and FG support mininum unit pricing for alcohol as a sop to the vintners association.
In all other circumstances they are pro-pubs over anything else.

I think we just don't have the enforcement capabilities to monitor it, v limited ICU capacity and have more 'wet' pubs than elsewhere.

Look at Michael McGrath when Varadkar says we're the only country in Europe not to have pubs open.

    https://twitter.com/rtenews/status/1299403464049602566?s=19

Not for a second do I believe Varadkar is leading the march to open pubs but he definitely wasn't supposed to say that. There must be tensions in the camp.

Full of shít. The cases had stabilised for months and they didn’t open. What are they waiting for, zero cases, that will never happen.

Eh and?? Was hardly a secret

    But it WAS intimate!!

I remember we were in single digits and they still were not opening them. We've had something like 14 deaths in the last month. About 30-40 since the start of July. They want our pubs closed to good.

I don't think so. There's no votes in it and it's a risk.
If they screw up the schools re-opening there goes the votes of the parents & teachers.
If they don't open the pubs... there's nowhere for those votes to go.

I don't think there is a court in the land that would remove it considering no laws were broken

"This shows that the legislation isn't there in the first place. Garda currently have no power to shut down pubs.

Well up to this point it seems you thought it was legislation so I'm not sure you have a good understanding of the situation.

Be a good way to completely remove any support left.

Isn't MUP supposed to solve all our woes and save us from the horrible scourge of having a few quiet drinks at home? Apparently we can't be trusted not to get absolutely sozzled and head out at 2am to go to Supermacs, start fights and cause problems for A&E depts up and down the country.
    I wonder what changed?

Went for a substantial meal yesterday and asked for a Guinness with it. She said the taps are broken and they've only got Heineken.
Didn't realize things were this bad, this is a crisis situation.

it is you crying, demanding your way, that pubs open for you, and we ignore the global pandemic. Not only are you selfish, but you seem too dense to even comprehend how ridiculous your argument is.

Tell me, why is it so important to you that the pubs open. Are you a publican ?

If not, what concern is it to you ? if you want a pint go to a pub selling food.
It appears to rational people you are crying for the sake of crying.

I miss the pub, and waited this long, and if i have to wait longer for the benefit of us ALL then so be it.

Sometimes the Irish just have to be different, Roy Keane summed it up when talking about Irish football fans.

dear god.,.....so in the middle of a global pandemic, you advocate social gatherings for masses of people to protest, about pubs not being open because of the global pandemic.

you could not make this up.....

I have raised it before that they are just guidelines and pubs should ignore them. This has proved it.

I'm sure they will, but what alternative government do they think is going to treat them any differently?

Who knows what would have happened with another government. Personally I think the current gov know they fecked up but there's so much damage done to the economy now they can't be seen to change their minds, their only option is to double down - let NHPET make all the decisions (who only make choices on health grounds not economic) and then they're blame free while the country implodes and they sail off into the sunset with their millions in pensions.

Why are we the only country in the EU with no pubs open, the rest of Europe is dealing with this crisis, we're pausing our lives while the gov bumble around and fcuk the economy even harder with ZERO repercussions.

I am not a publican.....I also clearly said I'm enjoying my time not in the pub so I am demanding nothing, only questioning your insistence to imprint your will on other people.

And I have done more than my share of making sacrifices to protect those around me and the rest of society and did it happily......in fact I'd fancy the chances I've interacted with less people than you have in the last 6 months. Yet they are decisions I made without demanding that society make it easy for me and stop everything.

What other government? There's only SF... do you hear them breaking ranks yet on pubs?

I have a gut instinct keeping such pubs closed is a means of keeping down inbound tourism to the country... how mahny tourists come here for our 'pub culture'?

I suspect our pubs are shut due to our ratio of 'wet' pubs to spare ICU beds.

The political risks to re-opening pubs far outweight the possible upsides.

Nobody is dieing anymore. The Virus has weakened. Winter Flu is more deadly than the strain going around. The emergency is over. It ended 2 months ago.

Cork was one of the covid-19 hotspots during the surge, I believe we had the second largest amount of cases in the country at that time, with only Dublin having more cases.

It was on the front page of our local newspaper today that there hasn’t been a covid-19 related death in the city and county in over ELEVEN weeks.
The last recorded death here was in early June, just under 3 months ago.

So the ‘people are dying’ manipulative guilt trip BS just isn’t cutting it anymore.

    "Global Pandemic"

What we were promised was 85,000 deaths, mass graves, a virus like Ireland has never seen before.

What we got was a handful of LEGITIMATE deaths from this and...

Where are you getting this information from? Specifically the bit about the virus weakening?
