Hotels, B&B's, hostels can all reopen from early July in effort to revive tourism in the country. Presumably that means all associated tourist attractions will also open simultaneously? galleries museums restaurants though they were not specifically mentioned by the cabinet announcement which is odd. What will tourists come for if most things aren't open for them?

Or constituencies! There must be a little more flesh to the proposal because these questions will be first up.

The county boundary is in addition to the 20km. You can travel 20KM from your home and any distance in your county.

I will be meeting my relatives on the hard shoulder of the N17 just outside Ballindine

Lads the guards will not be checking what county you are from - this is free travel within the country except in name.

Wow so I can’t go 10km over the road into Galway but I can travel 2 hours to Belmullet. Makes a lot of sense.

Its far more likely that the government has been in talks at a European level about air bridges but could not talk about it in advance of agreements being made and cabinet approving.

That's your take and you are entitled to it. I for one am very pleased, yet again, that I am a member of the EU.

Completely unenforceable - there are many instances where in order to get from one area in a county to another, you would need a large detour to avoid crossing a different county
Perhaps assuming that most people will respect it and to avoid cross-country runs to air out the summer homes!

It's a bit nonsensical this county thing when analysed but if it is a precursor to full removal of travel restrictions by the next phase then I'll take it. Considering how hopeless it felt regarding speeding up a few weeks ago this at least is movement in the right direction. If we can get everything from phase 5 in place by early July all will mostly be forgiven.

Any willingness to show flexibility at this stage is welcome, considering the base we started from and the complete lack of hope that was exhibited up to now. Leo has been completely infuriating up to now but he can still salvage this, just.

How many times will people in Clare want to visit the Cliffs of Moher, because no one else in the country will be able to?

Ah a clarification, an obvious one.

"If they live in a border area they will also be able to travel up to 20km into another county."

Restaurants are open end of June so already be open. And I doubt anyone comes to Ireland to see museums and galleries. We don't exactly have the Louvre here

The people of Ballaghaderreen will be hoping it remains a grey area and they can claim both!

the county by county thing is fair enough, i'm in dublin where the numbers are highest,
but my folks are in Clare where they are very very low.
They don't want the virus coming into their county until it's safer,

Not exactly great for all the many people that live just outside Dublin but see Dublin as their home. Just more nonsense really.

first time since covid 19 started i see lot's of positive news/posts here today which is great,
i for one will not take my civil liberties for granted ever again, or the simple things in life like a hug or a decent conversation when this is over !

Feel a tinch of emotion this morning catching up on all the posts here. People can get their livelihoods back and we can move forward with some hope after 3 months of constant fear mongering. I expect air travel to follow suit now very quickly. Also for family members we haven’t seen in one three months

Great, so I can go to West Cork over 100km away but still can’t go to my Mother’s house in Kerry which is 70km away.

Nail on the head. . .

Probably doing it for contact tracing reasons, which I reckon still isn't where it should be (and I wonder if they will ever be).
I wonder though how they could really enforce it. . .

Bout time they did this. My county free of cases with a while, no sense in keeping 5k/20k but makes sense to keep holiday home owners away for another bit.

Kerry is my playground for this phase. Not a problem :)

This is a serious speeding up of the reopening, didn't expect them to do this much, shopping centres open in just under 2 weeks time, 2 months early.

Looks like we'll have everything open by mid july at the latest

Of course you can. There is no law stopping you. I was in several counties and a different country over the last few weeks because there was no law stopping me, just colour of law, which is a different thing. The guards haven’t arrested a single person for breaking “guidelines” and “advice” not one person has been arrested for being more than their “ allowed “ distance away from home. It’s all a farce

No, there have been many recent cases in Monaghan, one of the smallest counties.

I was referring to The White Bishop's comparison to Dublin.

And as for keeping the Dubs out, do you honestly believe that all of the Dublin cases are Dubs, born and bred? That none of them are people from other parts of the country who happen to live and work in Dublin? Or that all of the people in Dublin hospitals are living in Dublin? I think the inter county rivalry should be kept for the GAA.
