The Greatest Song Sung By A Woman.

As the title says. I’m looking for the greatest song of all time sung by a female. They can be a solo artist or in a band. The band doesn’t have to be all female either. Nor does the singer have to be the lead, they just have to have sung the song nominated.

I’d love to see all decades and genres included but it’s your list, so nominate as you wish.

The scoring - the qualifying round will entail all involved scoring each song out of twenty. I’d like to see every song get a fair hearing at the first stage so depending on the total amount of songs entered, I’ll randomise the order and then post 10-20 songs a day. This will give everybody time to listen to them all. Submit your scores on thread and then a day after the last song has been posted I will close off voting.

We will now have our list of songs that will go head to head. Normal randomisation route will apply from here on.

The number of songs entering the head to head rounds to be decided later.
All songs will be subject to points scoring. Just because 5 people nominated a song does not mean it will get a pass into the head to head rounds.

As I’ve never done one of these competitions before, be prepared for errors

15 is nowhere near enough; I need at least 50.

I probably listen to as many, if not more, female vocalists than male so this is very difficult to whittle down. I'm trying to keep myself to just one song per artist, think I'll submit right now before I change my mind yet again.

Best way to do it; screw everyone else's taste because you know you're right!

Though it is still slightly soul-crushing when nobody else votes for a song you submitted, as has happened to me many times in the 'Best Of...' decade threads.

Sent, it was difficult to pick just 15. I picked a few songs i think no one else will choose but i did also add one or two that might be duplicated, i wasn't taking the risk of them not being on this. I have quiet a few old songs from 50s and 60s, there was so many brilliant songs from that era

I went for the very scientific method of looking through the list of my favourite albums of all time and selecting 15 songs.
I fully expect that most of them will get knocked out fairly quickly!!!

The singer Rachel Verney has the voice for old folk songs, I love Scottish Folk music and the way Rachel sings that song it resonates the innermost thoughts of temptation,lust and desire...

It's a great movie too, can be bought on Amazon...

I considered all 3 artists too, but they just didn't make my final list.

I won a Karaoke competition once in Philadelphia singing Complicated, it's a song very near and dear to my heart. Paramore's Hard Times is on most of my playlists and never fails to cheer me up. And Tay Tay has a couple of classics, but the Goat Version of Trouble is definitely top of my list...
