    From met eireann

We got to 23.6°C this afternoon in Newport Co. Mayo. This is our highest temperature so far this year.

For comparison we can look at the forecast highs for some of the cities across Australia for tomorrow (°C):
    Sydney 19
    Melbourne 15
    Perth 23
    Adelaide 17
    Hobart 13
    Canberra 13

still warm and sunny here in Meath, currently 20C, today's high here was 21C. Slightly cooler air getting close to the north coast already. Parts of the north and east will struggle to reach 10C tomorrow, it's going to be a shock to the system, especially if it's cloudy.

Met Eireann did update warning to include: Carlow, Galway, Kilkenny and Laois.

Its a shock to the system already!

There has been a noticeable drop in temps up here in north Donegal over the space of 2 hrs.

There is a nip in the air already since about 6pm, and I can see the mist or cloud roll in over the hills from the north.

Having said that, it was a bit hit and miss today, for what was meant to be the hottest day so far. Quite overcast and the sun struggled to punch through the clouds all day.

yep, much colder air now beginning to reach northern coastal counties, temperatures only 10 or 11C along the north coast vs high teens everywhere else. The real cold is still over the northern half of Scotland and it will be even colder there tomorrow and Monday.

A really noticeable change as the day went on up here, was doing some work outside in a t-shirt most of the afternoon but needed a fleece by the time we finished up!

Wasn't a great day here overall, a lot of cloud and sea fog rolling in from time to time, warm enough most of the day though and stayed dry again so cant complain really

Unreal day in cork city today, just in from out the back. In the garden all morning, afternoon and evening and stayed sunny and dry. Just got chilly around 9ish but the blankets came out and stayed out even longer :)

Was there any summer forecast predictions yet?

the cold plunge is making it's way here at the moment, only 9C here in Meath, this time yesterday it was about 19C.

Still mild down in the south, up to 16C in parts of Kerry, however the cold air will be in the south over the next few hours.

A Cloudy and windy day feeling raw in the very chilly wind, but at least it's dry and not raining.

    10.8 in Arklow
40kmh northeaserly off that sea would cut you

The cold air just about reaching parts of Wicklow at this stage, the cold air can be seen from Mayo to Wicklow, milder further south of that line. Summer hangs on by it's finger tips across the far south-west of England, and that won't last too much longer. Sub-zero across many parts of highland Scotland with a 20C drop on yesterday on those areas.

Some rain overnight rain - well that might have been the thunderstorm in the evening, quickly brightened into a fine day. I get the feeling this cold snap talk is just to try and keep people indoors ;)

It's bloody Baltic out there today! Amazing the swing in temperature within 24 hours.

But on a positive note it looks like we are returning to mild air from Wednesday with another good weekend in store.

5c drop in temp in Arklow from 8am to 1pm
    Wind Northeast gusting 51kmh

temperature dropped another degree here at Dunshaughlin, now just 8C in a biting north-easterly wind and spits of drizzle. A full 13C colder than this time yesterday when we reached 21C.

You have to wonder what sort of daytime and nighttime values this would have brought in the middle of January.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,677 ✭✭✭SleetAndSnow

Temp dropping very slowly in cork city, 15 degrees now down from 16 about an hour and a half ago according to the airport, about 16 in my garden still. Has clouded over now however

If Kermit is predicting snowfall on the mountains then you can be sure that snow will be what they get. Guaranteed.;)

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,677 ✭✭✭SleetAndSnow

Dropped to 13 degrees now in cork city so two degrees in about an hour. Wind picking up now too.

I know, was just thinking about that. Such a pity we can’t get a north easterly during the height of winter which would undoubtedly produce snow to lower levels. Such a waste getting it now.
